I’m having a massive throw out and I’ve dug up this jacket which I used to love. Would you wear it? It from the 80s, poss early 90s. Finnish brand Pola. I’ve no idea what is fashionable these days!

I'd charity shop it, sorry. Or maybe eBay?

lolacola77 · 20/07/2021 11:45

Burn it! 😂

notacooldad · 20/07/2021 11:46

I would be passing it on, it's not my taste.

DufferMum · 20/07/2021 11:46

Roll the sleeves up below elbow and wear open over summmer dress, (but not today because you will melt.)

ATowelAndAPotato · 20/07/2021 11:47

Might make a cute bag or cushion if you are any good with a sewing machine, otherwise charity shop it is!

Saggybaggyaggy · 20/07/2021 11:48

I can absolutely see this working with sleeves rolled up over a floaty knee length/midi summer dress with big chunky sandals, or boots in the autumn.
Sell it on depop as vintage and make a few quid if it's not for you.

Petrarkanian · 20/07/2021 11:49

Keep!!
I've got a lovely Miss Selfridge Princess Di style dress with a lace collar it would look amazing with.

StaggeringOn · 20/07/2021 11:58

Thanks for the replies! Now I’m really confused. Was tentatively thinking of wearing it with floaty dress, but I think the bag idea is great.

Saggybaggyaggy · 20/07/2021 12:22

Quite a divide of opinions hey! I think a bag would be awful Grin

ILoveShula · 20/07/2021 12:24

Wear it with a floaty tiered dress.

StaggeringOn · 20/07/2021 12:26

Might have to put it back in the clothes trunk for another decade!

ILoveShula · 20/07/2021 12:31

Wear it.
You just need something to go with it. A light blue and white gingham would work.

Naaaaah · 20/07/2021 12:33

It's truly awful but on a positive note, you look like you have fabulous high ceilings.

Bluntness100 · 20/07/2021 12:34

I’m sorry it’s not good. Charity shop.

MrsVeryTired · 20/07/2021 12:38

Definitely sell it on Depop, 80s/90s stuff is very trendy right now, all the clothes styles off Friends etc

Unless you like it obviously, then keep it.

Sheerheight · 20/07/2021 12:38

I like it! Would be good with a plain dress

ZaraW · 20/07/2021 12:41

Donate or sell. It's retro but not in a good way.

NoYOUbekind · 20/07/2021 12:45

I'm firmly in the wear what you want no matter how old you are camp, but I do exercise a lot of caution around 80s/90s stuff which I am clearly old enough to remember first time around. I think for it to work there has to be an update or twist - for me, the fabric of that jacket is brilliant but I think the shape is too Lady Di to work for me. I would wear that fabric in a neater blazer style jacket though. Mind you, that would mean it wasn't on trend. I'm actually no help, am I Grin

Floisme · 20/07/2021 13:10

I had one with lacy detail on the back (early noughties) which I've recently put in the charity shop pile - and I'm terrible for hanging on to stuff 'just in case'.

If it had been plain denim, I'd have kept it forever provided it still fitted. But I think such a specific twist is unlikely to come around again in my lifetime (I'm 60+). Plus in the cold light of day, I don't like it enough to give it space.

I've been proved wrong many, many times though!

AmberIsACertainty · 20/07/2021 13:29

I'd wear it in spring or early autumn with a skinny rib turtle neck top and a plain maxi skirt, in dusty pink and beige, with pearl earrings and natural makeup. I don't follow trends though.

StaggeringOn · 20/07/2021 13:56

The fabric is fun (and good quality) which is why I’ve kept it all these years, but yes, shape full-on lady D with padded shoulders.

TertiusLydgate · 20/07/2021 13:59

Charity. It’s really not good.

Guiltypleasures001 · 20/07/2021 14:01

Deffo keep

Over floaty dress with plimsoles or dm's

SummerHouse · 20/07/2021 14:01

OP, I love the way you have casually inserted a nonchalant hand in the pocket. I say you can wear what the hell you like!

I keep a silver dress in my wardrobe (what if I want to go to a fancy dress party as a robot??) so I am not best placed to give advice. Grin

StaggeringOn · 20/07/2021 14:07

Summerhouse I think that’s so sensible, and I’m sure you look fab in it!
