So, picture included as the other day I saw a friend and she said that I looked lovely and she was 'loving the mumsy vibe'
She's not a nasty person and often speaks a mile a minute and says stuff without thinking, but it just made me feel I looked 'frumpy' - maybe in my mind as I do have 15/20 lbs extra on me after DD that I'm in the process of losing, and I feel nothing looks good anymore or suits my new shape ...anyway...opinions please

@GalaxyGirl24 so do I! I remember rewinding to try and stalk a pair her trainers- the were Nike daybreak

I like the shirt too. You look great

GalaxyGirl24 · 17/07/2021 16:42

It's definitely not my style pre baby so tbf that could be why she said it. I was usually in some sort of floral mini/midi with doc martens and tights x
thank you all xo

I detest the word mumsy, and if a friend told me I looked mumsy, I'd tell her to fuck off.

Having said that, I don't love the shirt. The colour is nice, but I don't like the tie much and it looks as if it needs an iron.

You look fine though.

GalaxyGirl24 · 17/07/2021 17:38

If anyone's still invested I'm wearing this today in evening - it will get ironed don't worry 😆

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie - it was deffo ironed in the morning but is an easy crease shirt apparently 😖

Unless you are a size 10 and not recently a mum it could be seen as mumsy because it's trying to cover up areas you don't like. I would either wear what you want to as you are clearly not huge or go for Kirsty Location dresses

GalaxyGirl24 · 17/07/2021 17:48

Ooooh I've never noticed how nicely Kirsty from Location dresses!
@cherrypiepie oooooh motherland vibes love it. I loved everything Julia wore.

Thanks for the vote of confidence everyone. I do love this friend but she is very stylish and slim and can sometimes say things that come across a certain way but maybe doesn't mean it like that. Anyway she's the sort of friend it's hard to look good next to as she's perpetually done up and would be classed as 'fit' by most
She sounds very passive aggressive to me with those comments. I’d respond with “mumsy in a Kate Middleton way?”

TeaAddict235 · 17/07/2021 17:49

You go girl. You slay in your lane .

Where's the green Cardi from btw?
Also the top in the first picture? This is S&B, gotta know! Grin

HermioneWeasley · 17/07/2021 17:52

WTF is wrong with being a mother and looking like it?

DoingItMyself · 17/07/2021 17:52

Tonight's outfit looks fabulous, OP. You look fabulous.

GalaxyGirl24 · 17/07/2021 17:52

@TeaAddict235 thank you!Picture doesn't show it but it's a green satin kimono from River Island years and years ago..and the pink top is a Gilli shirt from asos currently on sale I've just noticed! X

OP posts:
GalaxyGirl24 · 17/07/2021 17:55

@HermioneWeasley I don't think there's anything wrong with looking like a mum (well, I can't look any other way no matter what I wear as I am one!) it's just the undertone of the way it was said made me think twice ...

@DoingItMyself thank you! ☺️🎉

I think it's lovely! That colour really suits your skin tone

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 17/07/2021 19:00

The colour is lovely-I think it might be the fabric-the sleeves are a bit nothingy and the belt many shades of wrong. I also thing that when you’re feeling bigger than normal, you tend to upsize but that just makes you look even bigger IYSWIM?

The evening outfit is a slayer! 🔥

MrsBobDylan · 17/07/2021 19:48

You look very well put together so I would ignore the forked tongue of this size 10 sex-pot frenimy.

SmileyClare · 17/07/2021 20:30

She was wearing a t shirt dress and trainers

You should have told her "Thanks, I'm loving your PE kit vibe" Grin

To be fair, she did say you looked lovely. Just concentrate on that (and you do).

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 17/07/2021 20:34

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with your outfit it’s just a bit bland. For me anyway, fuck what other people think. I dress like a toddler who’s just fallen into their wardrobe Grin

Iamthewombat · 17/07/2021 20:40

Well outfit 1 is quite mumsy (sorry to use that word!). It’s the collar, the buttons, the fabric and the tie belt.

Your friend probably meant it in a constructive way! Don’t take it personally. You have an embonpoint to be proud of.

Outfit 2 is better.

DaisyChainsForever · 17/07/2021 20:45

OP where is the pink top from please? Also a breastfeeding mum here struggling to find anything nice with buttons!!

Seascape2839 · 17/07/2021 20:56

I think you look absolutely gorgeous! If pic 2 is your usual style then yes, the blouse in the 1st pic is mumsy in comparison but still really lovely.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 17/07/2021 20:59

It's the belt.

Myshitisreal · 18/07/2021 03:50

You look knockout in the second outfit. The first one looks like you're trying to hide and the two photos could be of two completely different people.

I think it's that top.

But you know what, if you're happy and comfortable wear what pleases you.

Your figure is amazing in that second picture, you have nothing to hide 😍

GalaxyGirl24 · 18/07/2021 06:21

Wow thank you everyone for the advice (and the very kind compliments for outfit 2), and yes I felt much more 'me' in the second outfit, if only it was practical for daytime with baby!

Maybe I need more casual jumpsuits?!

@DaisyChainsForever It's from ASOS currently on sale called ' Gilli button down shirt '

Regarding outfit 1 - I think I may take advice and try it without the belt - maybe darker jeans as well. Failing that i think it could be a good top for the office when I return to work

OP posts:
tigerbreadandtea · 18/07/2021 06:33

Maybe a vest top and open oversized or boyfriend shirt would look more stylish.

Dugi3 · 18/07/2021 06:34

I think you look fab, it's so hard to get your own vibe back after a baby and I think you have nailed it!

And your friend wont be in a short tshirt dress with full face and hair when shes at the stage of charging round a park after a toddler either so you can repay the compliment then!
