Would anyone like to admire and comment on my knee dents?

Since January I have been really disciplined in my eating and exercising having previously been swinging wildly between bingeing and dieting and very inactive. I am disabled so exercising is tricky for me -I can't do high impact, running, exercise bike type exercise - so I have been doing a routine of yoga stretches and strength training at home. I've not lost masses of weight, about 8 kilos this year and 18 kilos altogether from my previous heaviest point, but I feel masses better and my fat clothes are now much too big.

I'm starting to notice differences in musculature now which is a completely new thing for me! I've been much slimmer before but have never had shapely arms and shoulders, for instance. My latest thing is I have noticed these indentations on the insides of my knees. Previously I had pads of fat there, and I don't remember ever having these dents even when about ten stone.

Anyway I just wanted to show off this small achievement, and to ask if you think the dents are to do with muscle development? I do 30 pretty deep squats and 25 split squats six days a week and have noticed my thighs are now quite hard when I tense them!

Thank you for listening to me. I don't really have anyone irl who I can show them off to. Smile

Well done OP!! Star Lovely knee dents! Very inspiring.

Please can you share a bit more about your strength training routine? I've just coming out of over a year of debilitating Long Covid and I'm much chubbier and flabbier than i was before! I cant run or do any cardio apart from walking really but would like to start building strength and toning.
How did you lose the weight? A diet or just healthier eating plus the workouts?

Thelikelylass · 14/07/2021 15:05

@chamberofhorrors

I am more concerned about the bumpy skin all over your legs
Don't worry about that, I'm covered in scales. Wanna see 'em?
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/07/2021 15:10

I am more concerned about the bumpy skin all over your legs

Really, why? There's always one Hmm

Pinkycheeks · 14/07/2021 15:14

I have knee dents (& bumpy leg skin) but I'm inspired to rummage for the old Pilates DVD I have in a drawer somewhere because I know I need to do something anything before I get to an unmanageable size & like you OP I don't want a quick fix that will work for a few weeks so walking & Pilates it is

Everyone seems excited but this phenomenon has completely passed me by

Didn’t know it was a thing to try to get!

Thelikelylass · 14/07/2021 15:46

@chamberofhorrors

Because people seem to only focus on the wrong thing, OP is going on about some none existent dents that nobody would even notice never mind pay any attention to when the most obvious thing on first glance is the terrible state of skin, focus on clearing that first would be the most logical thing, no?
Come on, beg me, I know you really want to see my scales. Bottom shot ?
MistressOfEvilMaleficent · 14/07/2021 15:47

Knee dents are a thing? I never knew .. I doubt I'll get any I have packed muscle around my knee, legs like a rugby prop haha 😂

But well done op! Your weight loss goals and achievement is amazing, you should be very proud of yourself! X

Shurl · 14/07/2021 15:52

@chamberofhorrors nasty bitchy comment.

Well done OP! And it's inspiring to see the effects of sustained (and sustainable) exercise rather than intense crash periods. Enjoy finding new unexpected bits that change shape as you continue :)

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 14/07/2021 15:53

I'm finding you and your debts very inspirational and I shall be squatting forthwith.

lazylinguist · 14/07/2021 15:55

Good on you, OP. I had to give up running a while back and was beginning to feel heavy and unfit. I do fast walking, but what's really made a difference is yoga and weights which I alternate between each day. Well done and keep it up!

cosmopolitanplease · 14/07/2021 16:47

Oh I see someone noticed my keratosis pilaris! Yes it's there and never 100% gone no matter how much exfoliating and moisturising I do, but it's actually a lot better than it has been in the past and I've now passed the age of being embarrassed about it.

Thanks to those who spoke up for me and all those who understand these little signs of any progress when one is of a certain age and in my case unable to do many types of exercise. Thanks

I don’t understand this at all? Fair play to you op, it sounds like you’ve done amazingly and your legs/knees look great, but is this not a normal knee feature? I am confused! Not trying to belittle your efforts at all, just genuinely confused!

Miseryisabutterfly · 14/07/2021 17:16

I even googled knee dents 😂 still none the wiser

Alexkate2468 · 14/07/2021 17:21

What fabulous dents you have Grin

Thank you for prompting me to look for the little changes that show the hard work is paying off.

tbtf · 14/07/2021 17:32

Love that you've shown us both knees Grin lovely knees them OP, congratulations!

cosmopolitanplease · 14/07/2021 17:54

Sorry if my dents have confused some of you! They're not a 'thing' I don't think, although some pps have recognised what I meant. Just they were not there before and previously there were fat pads in their place. It's just that one knows what ones own legs look like and I suddenly noticed these dents and felt encouraged at noticing a change. Yes they're not massively noticeable to others which is why I circled them. Smile

@hollieberrie sorry to hear you have been poorly and like me can't do cardio type exercise. Did you happen to see the Panorama on long covid this week? It was very interesting although sad for those still suffering.

I have been eating better this year yes. I follow a quite complicated diet (I don't find it complicated now but I realise it will seem that way to many people) that excludes many foods because I find it helps my MS but basically it's low carb, plenty of protein, high in healthy fats and largely unprocessed. I also don't eat now until lunchtime which has helped a lot. Today for example I ate a big salad made of lettuce, celery, grapes, apple, chicken, walnuts, mayonnaise and herbs and tonight I'm having chicken in a spicy tomato sauce with broccoli and cauliflower. I rarely feel hungry eating like this - previously all the sugars I used to eat made me want more and more food!

Good luck with your continuing recovery! There are lots of great low impact beginners strength training routines on YouTube etc. I started off very slowly with few repetitions as it was all I could manage but was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I gained strength!
