Can anyone help with finding me a dress please?

I’m in my 30’s and have a party in the summer, quite a posh venue. I’m struggling to find a dress. I am short, size 8/10. This is where it gets tricky. I don’t want strapless or backless and want it short. Ideally in black, purple or gold! I have attached two photos of dresses I like but I hate pink so rules out the pink one, the other I have ordered. Just so there is a vague idea of what I like.

I have exhausted my usual places and I don’t wear dresses very often and want to make an effort in a ‘wow’ dress. I don’t have a budget really as I’m happy to pay to find the right one. Anyone up for the challenge?!

I should add, it’s my birthday party… not just a guest!

Thanks @Amdone123 I’m not 100% sure on the neckline, it is very low and has one of those nude kind of insert things which generally look a bit shit… I’m going to see what it’s like and see if I can maybe get a seamstress to add a black panel other it or something. Not convinced it will fit yet either!

@BellyFlipFlop obviously the cheaper the better but we’ve all had a shit year etc so if I look good and it fits well (oh and also I can dance in it, Boris permitting )

@BellyFlipFlop those are ok but I don’t think would suit me. @rosalindwi that’s nice I’ll order it. The only thing is I have ordered sequin dresses/skirts/tops before and they are also so itchy and scratchy!

The one I have ordered takes up to a month to delivery… which I don’t get as it says they are based in the U.K.! At least there are free returns in case I can find something else in the mean time!

@leopardspotsdotdotdot I came across this one!!!! I love that but wasn’t sure if I could pull it off so kept scrolling! It looks like the fabric over the belly is sheer and I have a bit of a pot belly… I could order it and try though. I do actually like the pink one too but won’t wear pink!

When you say “posh venue”, what kind of venue exactly? Is there a dress code? Just wondering if the plunging cleavage/very short skirt combo might be against dress code in certain posh venues.

It’s basically a sort of permanent marquee in stately home type gardens? No dress code at all, I just want something a bit ‘wow’ as o never have parties snd it’s my birthday snd why not! Also most of these dresses won’t be crazy short on me as the models are tall and I’m a short arse!

@leopardspotsdotdotdot that’s a good idea… I have never worn any though… aren’t they restrictive for dancing?? I saw that black one and like that too… the only thing is that one has a higher waist on it and I think it will cut my proportions up wrong, being short… might order though

So with Spanx or similar brands, you can feel like a stuffed sausage and get rolls, or feel restricted if you get the wrong size or too thicker support.

Definitely can look great and make you feel more confident if you get it right.

I know what you mean about high waist, would you prefer a drop hem? I know you said not strapless, but could you do 1 shoulder?

Love the feathered dress. It’s never in style so never really out.
Will also look good in the winter for parties.
I’d just checked feathered dress into Google and see if you get anything less revealing if you’re worried.

Jealous. I had a fab out there All Saints puff ball/ festival type dress ready to wear for parties. I am way too fat after lockdown now.

There are some nice ones on that house of CB but none that tick my boxes…. I like the black strapless one, I think it would be flattering on me but it’s strapless and I’m always fidgeting in strapless snd pulling them up. I want to dance and not have to worry! I have too much of a belly for most of those other dresses, I need something with a tie, ruching, some sort of detail to cover it.
