Face wash

Do people still use face wash and if so, which one?

I've used garner skin active face wash (the one that reduces skin blemishes and doesn't dry your face) throughout my 20s. Now in my early 30s and I'm not a fan of it anymore. It just doesn't do anything for me plus the smell seems to have changed.

I am after a gentle face wash I can use first thing in the morning when in the shower, and occasionally in the evening if I haven't worn makeup throughout the day.

My skin type is pretty normal, prone to the odd spot and sensitivity during my period, but otherwise normal tone in the summer months, slightly drier in winter months.

Any recommendations?

Pure one from Waitrose, or a unfragranced one from Boots or Superdrug or supermarket

Thisismynewname123 · 04/07/2021 11:47

I've used Origins checks and balances for years. Every now and then I try a different one, but always come back to the Origins one.

I don't.
My skin has improved by just using gentle toner to freshen it.

Neal's Yard do some lovely ones. You can get them online. Expensive, but last for ages and smell gorgeous. I'm using their rose one atm and it's very gentle. I love their orange shampoo & conditioner too.

I like lancome gel eclat but it’s expensive so I switched to Pure from M&S as I had a sample and liked the smell and it works nicely. Costs £5. I always wash twice (once for make up second to clean).

Always use serum and moisturiser (doesn’t have to be expensive - currently using a £15 M&S own serum with Nivea factor 15 day cream).

I like the Clarins one, always come back to it. Gentle foaming face wash - great product

ThreeKneeRepeater · 04/07/2021 11:59

The Superdrug Naturally Radiant foaming one is nice, and often on two for one.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. Leaves my face really fresh, and isn't drying. I used to have horrendous hormonal acne and don't get a single spot now. Also sorts out my dryness 👌

NoYOUbekind · 04/07/2021 12:02

I find a face wash a bit too much on my skin. I use a cleansing balm at night and in the morning just warm water to take off the night time moisturiser. I also occasionally use an oil to cleanse in the am.

MozzchopsThirty · 04/07/2021 12:03

Neutrogena hydro boost water gel face wash is lovely and clean feeling use it daily

peachgreen · 04/07/2021 12:05

I second Glossier's Milky Jelly. I find a lot of their stuff overrated but that and Wowder are great.

Kjr33 · 04/07/2021 12:06

Cerave hydrating cleanser, usually only in the evening after taking off my make up. I do quite like my sons la roche posay effaclar one and an Aldi one too in the summer when my skin seems a bit more oily.

NotMyCat · 04/07/2021 12:09

I like the boots your good skin range and also soap and glory peaches and clean

RubyGoat · 04/07/2021 12:17

This one. Not the cheapest but really good on my slightly blemish prone, very sensitive, dehydrated skin.

WrinklesShminkles · 04/07/2021 12:34

Avene Cleanance foaming gel. You only need a few drops, I can use it all over (it doesn't irritate my eyes) and it keeps spots at bay without being drying.

Gorgeouslilgirl · 04/07/2021 12:40

I don’t cleanse my face in the morning. Just some water and a wipe with a slightly tough towel.

At night I use an oil cleanser.

Gorgeouslilgirl · 04/07/2021 12:41

Rough, not tough.

Whereland · 04/07/2021 12:45

Liz Earle cleanse and polish is a lovely gentle face wash, smells divine

Wiggleinherwalk · 04/07/2021 12:48

I really like the Boots Botanics range - use their All Bright face wash twice a day, with the spritz toner, then the day cream (with SPF) or night cream. Have sensitive skin but never had any problems, no spots, and visible improvement in pores etc.
Would recommend!

Another vote for M & S Pure from me!

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 04/07/2021 12:55

I use La Roche Posay Toleraine as a face wash. I pump a bit into my hands & apply to my dry face, then wash off with warm water & a soft facecloth. I also have Sunday Riley ceramic slip cleanser which I use from time to time

MouldyPotato · 04/07/2021 13:02

Cetaphil

tiredteacher100 · 04/07/2021 13:05

Sukin Rosehip cleanser. No sls or other nasties and really mild

Geamhradh · 04/07/2021 13:08

Take it off with a hot cloth and you can use any old cleanser you like but with much better results. The experts say you don't need to spend on something that goes down the plug after 30 seconds, but having said that two of my favourites are:
Clarins -yellow tube, smells divine
Liz Earle C&P
Others I've repeat purchased are:
Superdrug Vit E, lovely and creamy. I didn't like their Radiant one personally but lots of people do
Body Shop Chamomile cleansing balm
Botanics balm.
