Help - haircut in 3 hours, what to do?!

Selfienamechange · 02/07/2021 07:13

I posted miserable after my last haircut at Christmas - every salon I go to gives me the same boring long layered hair cut, I ask them for suggestions but obviously they aren’t comfortable doing something risky without me asking.

This is my very messy hair now (excuse how awful I look, just woke up 😂). Would love a fringe of some kind but can’t even figure out what shape my face is so no idea what would suit!

Please wise stylish people, help me! It’s my birthday, I’m sick of looking crap. Soon I have to make YouTube videos for my business (art tutorials basically) and I would like to look reasonably okay!

Throw photos at me!

Hold your hair over your forehead and fold it up iyswim which will give a good idea of how a fringe will look and you can adjust it to see how thick suits.
Obviously the thicker the fringe, the more maintenance and fringes and glasses even more so.
Your style at the moment looks like it suits you. Perhaps have a trim, ask for suggestions of different ideas for up do's etc, and give it more thought.
Tinkering with colour could alleviate your boredom.

Happy birthday!! Fringe, yes. Shorter, yes.

Londontown12 · 02/07/2021 08:26

Hi stylist here !! Deffo go for a blunt wavy long Bob and heavy fringe u deffo have the right face shape !!!!! I was hunna suggest this but saw the pics u added deffo go for it xx

ShaunaTheSheep · 02/07/2021 08:28

Love the last pic.
Be prepared to 'train' your fringe.
If it separates or splits in two, clip it in place overnight and get a giant Velcro roller for it while the rest of your hair dries.

endoflevelbaddy · 02/07/2021 09:02

Those images you have are all ones I have pinned too. Up until this year I've been wearing mine with a heavy fringe, centre parting and long. I also wear heavy black glasses.

I loved it (decided to grow out for a change as it's been like that for years).
If you go for it - have your glasses with you and make sure your fringe sits right with them.
Be prepared for a bit of effort, you can't just give it a brush and go for the day. I have dry shampoo, a water spray bottle and narrow rounded brush to blow dry every day. It's also not particularly conducive to wearing hats so I had to learn how to do a tiny French braid to lift it away if needed.

The best bit though, even if you're only scraping up into a bun / pony, if you make an effort with the fringe - you always look put together.
I'd suggest some face framing 'feathers' not too short, if you plan to wear it up a lot as you can pull them out of your pony to frame your face a bit and stop you looking too much like this:

@Selfienamechange

You could pull it off! You scaredy-cat!
Easy for me to say behind my MN name.
I think it will make you look younger.

( sitting here with fine, menopausal hair, feeling jealous)

Come back and show us what you did please

Selfienamechange · 02/07/2021 09:32

Thanks so much for the suggestions and the courage! Have warned DH I’m going for a change and to be nice 😬 and obviously I can’t let you lovely people down and have another boring cut so I will be brave.

I’ve never had a blunt end hair cut and think that would look better than layers in the ends so will say all this and show some pics and then ask their honest opinion so I don’t look like a pillock.

I definitely want a fringe so it looks better when my hair is up - love these fringes with hair up so will have to be a reasonably hefty fringe I think. But not so short I can’t put it in a clip at least.

Right - wish me luck. Will update later unless I look like dreadful 😂

@Selfienamechange were gonna need to send the end result...we’re invested now!!

Selfienamechange · 02/07/2021 11:15

Okay I sort of bottled it again- hairdressers REALLY don’t want to give me a fringe. But it’s shorter. And I’m going to go back for some colour and get an actual fringe next time 😬

Oh it looks great!! Really suits you a bit shorter. And makes the colour stand out more too. Will be so much lighter and easier to manage for the summer.

Londontown12 · 02/07/2021 11:34

Love it !!! X

Girlintheframe · 02/07/2021 11:53

You look lovely. Shorter length really suits you.

QuimKardashian · 02/07/2021 12:44

Really nice, love that blunt cut. All the stragglely bits off and it's a great colour too
You don't 'need' a fringe tho, just a good hairdresser that isn't afraid! Get a proper consultation from the head hairdresser, it's free

QuimKardashian · 02/07/2021 12:47

You could get them or do it yourself to pin up your hair at the front to show what it would be like with a fringe?

ProfessorInkling · 02/07/2021 14:07

Oh it looks lovely OP! That length really suits you. Enjoy your birthday, are you taking your new hair out to celebrate? 🥂🍹🍷

Selfienamechange · 02/07/2021 14:29

Thanks everyone! DH took today off so we went for lunch and having dinner with my sister tomorrow which will be lovely.

I do fear that when I wash and dry it, it will be the same hair cut I always have, just a tad shorter. But I’ve bought some tongs and I’m definitely going to get that fringe! Colour will be fun as i haven’t dyed my hair for years mz

You look lovely! Although, I think the fringe would look great on you!

Maybe you should buy one of these fake ones and try it on?
It would give you an idea of how you feel /look with the fringe

Selfienamechange · 02/07/2021 14:42

Fake fringe isn’t a bad idea! I’ve tried arranging my hair over my face but it never looks the same!

EarringsandLipstick · 02/07/2021 14:44

It's lovely as it is, really. Great length on you & you look fab.

I think you could enhance it further with a nice toner for colour with some balayage / highlights.

Happy Birthday 🎈

Amdone123 · 02/07/2021 14:47

It looks lovely.
Happy birthday and you're really witty 🤣

Atalune · 02/07/2021 15:10

Looks bloody gorgeous!

Selfienamechange · 02/07/2021 15:11

Thanks everyone! Was feeling a bit glum about adding another year to the clock (big 40 next year!) but you’ve all cheered me up and my hair feels all swishy, so I’m happy.

Definitely balayage and a fringe in a couple of months :)

My waves have fallen out already though - guess I will need to own hair spray now (any suggestions?). I had literally forgotten how to put make up on when I went to do it this morning - so maybe this year I’ll make more of an effort... or at least this weekend, then I’ll just tie my hair up again probably.

Thanks so much for the encouragement to be brave - baby steps but at least I look like I’ve had a hair cut which is a pleasant change from my usual cut that no one notices.

(Not sure I’m witty, but sense of humour is definitely more important now I’m old 😬)

Happy birthday. Hair looks fab.

SwimBaby · 02/07/2021 15:20

I have some £40 curlers from Amazon that would make good curls for your length hair. Mine is a similar length but I have a fringe.

Seesawmummadaw · 02/07/2021 19:40

You look beautiful @Selfienamechange!
