So I bought the darley satchel in oxblood do summer. Umhed and aahed and swapped for grey.

this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? www.johnlewis.com/mulberry-small-darley-classic-grain-leather-satchel-bag/charcoal/p4199106?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappiosY29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5Lk1lc3NhZ2U= small grey

2 weeks later and not used it, really toying with getting the mini Bayswater satchel in grey - I have the extra 450 mostly in John Lewis vouchers (they are sending one to a local John Lewis for me to look at as there's no stock across JL)

this

Which one????

The Darley is a bag of beauty! I like the simplicity of the shape. Its elegant and would look great with various outfits.

I've always disliked the Bayswater, I think it looks clunky, also not keen on the grey.

blisstwins · 02/07/2021 06:20

I like the shape of the Farley too. It’s a beautiful and simple bag. Seems classic. I don’t know what your lifestyle is like, but maybe hard to judge until fully out of lockdown?

willowsmumsy · 02/07/2021 06:33

My husband bought me the small Darley from JL for Christmas 2019. I was shocked at the quality. It looked plastic and cheap. I took it back and bought a small zipped Bayswater from mulberry a few months later.

KikiKaty · 02/07/2021 06:37

Definitely the Darley. The Bayswater looks dated now.

Ikeameatballs · 02/07/2021 07:03

I prefer the Darley over the Bayswater.

permaconfused · 02/07/2021 07:29

Meant to say - I haven't used the small and had it for weeks.

My point is that I'll not use it anywhere near as much as the Bayswater- I have the black and the tan and use them all the time

Darley over Bayswater. Bayswater is very 00s office bag. Although I find the small Darley too small and the big Darley too big!

mumjustmum · 02/07/2021 07:40

Darley in black - definitely

LivingLaVidaCovid · 02/07/2021 07:44

Darken although it you aren't loving it
Check out the amberley satchel.
I have small and my mum has larger one. they are gorgeous. I get stopped a lot and asked about it.

LivingLaVidaCovid · 02/07/2021 07:45

Darley*

RunnerDown · 02/07/2021 08:02

I have a darley satchel and it’s very small. I prefer my Amberley small satchel or my Alexa. I don’t esp like the Bayswater satchel. It’s fine for everyday but not a going out bag imo

ILoveShula · 02/07/2021 08:18

It's a No from me.

To both?!

I much prefer the Amberley and grey will be super dated in a couple of months!

ILoveShula · 02/07/2021 08:51

Both get a No. Sorry.

It won’t. I bought a grey Bayswater in 2015, it’s just a bit softer than black and still goes with just about everything. I don’t use it any more because it’s so bloody heavy. Thank you for pointing me towards the Darley, OP, I think I’ve just found my next bag.
Orf1abc · 02/07/2021 11:03

Do you love the bag or are you falling for marketing hype?

It's a very non descript bag.

ILoveShula · 02/07/2021 11:09

I like the Bayswater - the original one not the update. It is heavy though.

The Darley is nice but doesn't look like £495. The grey leaves me cold.

I would go for a similar bag from a much cheaper range (e.g. M&S ) or go for a statement bag.

ILoveShula · 02/07/2021 11:10

And it's tiny. Sod that, it would be full once I'd got my phone, specs and wallet in.

Thank you for pointing me towards the Darley, OP, I think I’ve just found my next bag that's because grey has been very cool for the last 5 years and is now on its way out. I used to love grey and am now avoiding in like the plague.

Having said that, an expensive leather bag always looks nice.

TheVampiresWife · 02/07/2021 11:16

I love the small Bayswater (agree the regular sized ones look dated now) but the current styles are pretty awful quality-wise - I have loads of older Mulberrys and the difference is huge. The older, thick grainy NVT leather was much lovelier and hardwearing. Would you consider pre-loved? If so a small Bayswater satchel from a trusted seller would be my choice.

TheVampiresWife · 02/07/2021 11:24

Nettle green embossed

Grey

Grey brand new

All these are genuine but if you're concerned re authenticity the Purse Forum will help you out.

Christ, we can’t even talk about handbags without being ageist. OP might be a granny.
