So I bought the darley satchel in oxblood do summer. Umhed and aahed and swapped for grey.

this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? www.johnlewis.com/mulberry-small-darley-classic-grain-leather-satchel-bag/charcoal/p4199106?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappiosY29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5Lk1lc3NhZ2U= small grey

2 weeks later and not used it, really toying with getting the mini Bayswater satchel in grey - I have the extra 450 mostly in John Lewis vouchers (they are sending one to a local John Lewis for me to look at as there's no stock across JL)

this

Which one????

@2andahalfpints

It's a no from me sorry, both lack personality and are a bit granny
Well that's depressing.
ILoveShula · 02/07/2021 13:36

@2andahalfpints, that granny comment was uncalled for.

Missushbb · 02/07/2021 14:13

if you're not sure i would return the one you have, its such a lot of money if you dont love it. I bought the Lily and ended up returning it, i had lusted over it for years but when i had it i thought it just wont suit my lifestyle unfortunately! I bought the Darley instead, the small one, i love it but have yet to use it! not been anywhere! Mulberry sale started this week too.

permaconfused · 03/07/2021 10:10

Well, it's that time, off to mulberry to decide - I am absolutely shocking at making a decision.......

I feel like Mulberry bags have really lost their edge.

TheVampiresWife · 03/07/2021 10:47

Sadly I agree. They look like so many other bags, whereas 15 years ago the styles were iconic (everyone can picture a Bayswater or a Roxanne). Plus the quality of the old Darwin leather was stunning. I still have Darwin bags which are getting on for 20 years old and look fabulous despite regular use. The newer leathers are sort of shiny and thin and wear at the corners in a way the delicious older leathers didn't.

They should reboot their classics!

minniebin · 03/07/2021 10:52

Yes, I remember when they were really original & ahead of the game. I have a old one that I still love but I forget they still exist tbh & just wouldn't look there now.

They never had any edge. They’re a classic heritage brand - apart from the absolute monstrosities of limited editions they’re churning out now.
minniebin · 03/07/2021 11:14

I think they did, they were at one time the coolest brand to carry & highly desirable.

permaconfused · 03/07/2021 12:31

Oh help! I'm now toying up this...

It's not big enough for every day.....but £250 cheaper than the other one - which in the flesh is quite big?!!

OP posts:
StillCalmX · 03/07/2021 12:34

For that price range id go for a chloe see bag.

Those bags are so ordinary.

permaconfused · 03/07/2021 12:46

Or should I just go back and get this again???

They were very popular. That’s not the same as being edgy, on the contrary, they’ve always been a pretty safe choice.
Ponks · 03/07/2021 12:54

It doesn't sound like you have fallen in love with any of them .. if so best to leave it for now.

TheVampiresWife · 03/07/2021 13:08

OP, when you know, you know. When you 'meet' the bag that makes your heart sing and you won't be talking yourself into/out of it and weighing up the pros and cons - that'll be The One.

Maybe The One isn't Mulberry after all?

minniebin · 03/07/2021 13:26

I never said they were edgy did I? However they had an edge over their competitors & had many iconic "IT" bags. They no longer have that.

Ninkanink · 03/07/2021 13:34

I think you’re getting caught up in wanting a bag, whether it’s right for you or not.

If the bag isn’t suitable for day-to-day use and that’s what you actually want or need it for, then it’s wasted money even if you theoretically saved £250. Wait until you find a bag that you actually love, that’s right for you and your lifestyle and the function you want it to perform.

Keep the money/vouchers and wait until you know it’s right, or truly love the bag.

FWIW I do like the mini Darley Shoulder bag and it’s one that’s on my list to get at some point.

minniebin · 03/07/2021 13:37

I agree that you should love whatever you buy.

Elsabet · 03/07/2021 13:42

I have the mini Darley shoulder bag in Mulberry pink, love the strap options with it.

MouldyPotato · 03/07/2021 14:10

Ooh I like it in pink but not the grey
