What jeans now?

I'm still wearing skinnies, I know I need to stop! But I don't know what to wear. I'm 45, 5'8" size 10. All I see are unflattering high wasted, baggy affairs! What do I need to try? My style is casual (trainers, boots etc)

Joggers are in fashion too, try those? X

DaVinyl · 30/06/2021 22:31

I have finally started the search for an alternative to my beloved skinnies. It's been hard as they are the shape that suits me best and I will still wear them.

Ive tried loads of looser styles, some really expensive ones too, in the hope they would somehow work, but most haven't. The nicest pair so far are the M&S Boyfriend jeans. I tried them after another poster on here posted a pic of herself wearing them and they looked really nice. I'm a 10 but got an 8 so that they were a tighter fit around my hips and bum, and they look great.

Squiz81 · 30/06/2021 22:34

Fatface girlfriend jeans are really comfy and look good rolled up with jeans and boots.

EllaPaella · 30/06/2021 22:35

Boyfriend jeans, straight leg, straight leg crop, wide leg - loads of different ones to try. I'm not keen on high waist either but M&S have some nice jeans in at the moment.
I have a two pairs of non skinny style Levi's that I love as well - boyfriend style and straight cropped leg.
Lots of alternatives to Mom jeans but agree it can be quite a slog finding the right pair as the styles and sizes are all so variable.

Lots of excellent inspo here:

I'm the same age and a long-term skinny devotee - have skinny legs and wider top half so they work well on my figure - but am leaning towards trying some straight legs...

NotTheCatsWhiskers · 30/06/2021 22:40

I absolutely love my Asda Mom jeans. No others compare.

I want another pair but can’t find any.

DedalusBloom · 01/07/2021 07:46

Very surprised by liking M&S Harper cigarette jeans- they fulfil the need I have for jeans being slim fitting but straight down from the knee as opposed to straight from the hip. Look a bit more up to date than my skinnies so I feel like I e kept up a bit, style wise!

snakegurl · 01/07/2021 08:11

Thank you SO much, loads of ideas to try 🙏🏻

I’ve been wearing cropped girlfriend jeans recently and as nice as they are, I put a pair of black skinnies on yesterday and remembered why I love them, they’re so flattering, I feel very feminine/sexy in them Blush

Onesailwait · 01/07/2021 08:28

Why do you need to stop?. If it's because you don't think they flatter you, try on some new styles. If it's because 'they' say skinnies are out bollocks to that!. I love them & they look good on me so I'll continue to wear them. I learnt back in the late 80's/early 90's the boyfriend Jean (mom jean) looks shit. This generation has yet to discover thisWink

lazylinguist · 01/07/2021 08:30

You don't need to stop. Wear whatever jeans suit you. Loads of people still wear skinnies.

lazylinguist · 01/07/2021 08:31

In any case, blink, and they'll be back in fashion again!

PeacheyPeach · 01/07/2021 16:57

I've recently tried on mom style jeans and they looked awful on!! They stuck to my stomach and made my legs look about 3 inches shorter than what they are !!
I'm just going to go for a more flattering skinny jean as I think this suits me and my style . I'm thinking an ankle grazer . Also on the lookout for a jean that has a cuffed leg so like a jogger but denim as I think these will suit .
Sometimes you've just got to wear what suits you an what you feel comfortable in instead of what is the fashionable thing ( well this is what I'm telling myself 😂)

HmmmmmmInteresting · 01/07/2021 17:00

Nobody's wearing skinnies any more but leggings suddenly seem to be everywhere again

imissguitarsolos · 01/07/2021 17:04

I am, I have some on now. I also went shopping on the weekend to look for straight leg cropped jeans and the shops are just full of skinnies.
ThatScottishLass · 01/07/2021 17:09

Why do you need to stop wearing skinnies? Because the fashion police say they’re out? Sod that, they can pry them off my cold dead legs Grin

Daisyhoney · 01/07/2021 17:30

Hmmmmmminteresting I'm wearing skinnies today too and it's no one's business what jeans other people wear. I love them and won't be changing to anything else just because certain people think they're 'out' .
Snakegurl if you love them , carry on wearing them.

Craftycorvid · 01/07/2021 17:54

I don’t get rid of my jeans if the whims of fashion change, I just store them and wait for whims to change again 🤣. Not that I’m unduly concerned with fashion whims anyway. Disliked bootcut (very Star Trek uniform circa 1975) so never really bothered. I find mom jeans work ok for my shape so I wear those. I’m liking the ‘boyfriend’ ones as well.

FourTurnings · 02/07/2021 18:51

I am your height and size OP. I am wearing straight cropped 501s and also Lee Carol’s. I have some Liverpool Los Angeles Marley’s in grey which are great too.

KurtWilde · 02/07/2021 18:54

I'll never stop wearing my skinnies. They suit my shape and I love them. I'd rather look like me that try to keep up with fashion trends.

kowari · 02/07/2021 18:58

I like river island dean men's jeans, just straight ones. I find the high waisted women's jeans to be too big on the hip for me but a 26x30 is perfect.

Annasgirl · 02/07/2021 19:02

Straight leg, higher waist - they are in every shop

Or wider leg (not flare, just slightly wider), high waist, ankle length - DD works in fashion and this is in with everyone under 30. Probably also many people over 30 as it is a style that suits most people and is also more forgiving than skinny (which really only suit people with Kate Moss legs).

There are lots available in Zara.

tootiredtospeak · 02/07/2021 19:03

Oh no I am 44 why cant I wear skinnies?

Pikachusbutt · 02/07/2021 19:03

Well I've been wearing bootcut jeans for the entire time they were 'out' and apparently they're back 'in'. 🤷‍♀️ I am also still wearing skinnies.

Sometimes it's not always a wise idea to follow fashion if fashion makes you look like crap.
