Hen Do ... mid afternoon

MindTheBumps · 30/06/2021 09:02

So I am going to a hen do in our nearest big city. Usually hen do = dressed up, but this one starts at 12.30 in the afternoon with a boozy afternoon tea and then moves on to a gin bar.

I have this outfit... but I don't know if its too much because of the time of day? Or does the occasion (hen do) trump the time?

It's a definite NO from me unless your Scary Spice and your going to a Spices Girls fancy dress

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 01/07/2021 05:36

I now know I am officially old and out of touch, as my monocle fell out of my eyeball and I spilt my morning cup of Earl Grey down my M&S zip up high neck nightgown at the sight of that Grin.

Mumdiva99 · 01/07/2021 08:03

@HomeSliceKnowsBest GrinGrin
Don't you remember back in the day wearing a skirt above your ankle/knee/thigh (delete as applicable) and looking amazing!! If you've got it- wear it with pride.

Ellllle · 01/07/2021 15:25

Not your demographic? We're not all past it ... how patronising!

iklboo · 01/07/2021 16:35

Knee?? Thigh?? It's brazen to show an ankle!!

SHONNYSMUMMY · 01/07/2021 18:00

@ShirleyPhallus

Hen parties don’t automatically equal tacky!

It’s too OTT for me personally tbh, it looks quite cheap material and I can’t imagine it’s flattering to anyone on. But if all your friends are wearing similar things then it would be fine and you’d blend in to the group.

I think you need to check with them rather than MN though.

What an awful person you are wow.. Jealousy don't look nice if you don't have the body to wear it just say so!
Atalune · 01/07/2021 18:06

Joe browns is so not the vibe!!

Christ. There is a middle ground between slut drop sexy suit and depressed art teacher old rag.

Cam2020 · 01/07/2021 20:21

*Just imagine the crumbs in that jumpsuit.'

😂

My hen do started early with afternoon tea, followed by a gin bar then ended up in a club. I wore a dress like this one

Might not be your style though.

Onlinedilema · 01/07/2021 22:15

The reviews aren't great. Seems to be quite badly made and hip-hop fitting from the reviews. You would have to be very toned and slim to wear that with small breasts.

Isababybel · 01/07/2021 22:29

This thread has cheered me right up Grin

OP if you have the confidence then defo wear the jumpsuit, its a hen do so wear whatever you'd wear on a night out.

SlipperTripper · 01/07/2021 22:35

I'd personally be going for a Buck's Fizz style skirt plan. Joe brown sensibleness for afternoon tea and rip off the Velcro (scattering crumbs akimbo!) to unveil a spangled arseskimming play suit for clubbing?

Seems the only logical answer.

SarahBellam · 01/07/2021 22:40

It’s Liverpool - land of the free and home of the brave! Wear whatever you want. If it makes you feel good, wear it.

catfunk · 01/07/2021 22:44

Well I wasn't expecting that!! Grin

@SHONNYSMUMMY did you respond to the wrong person?! Nothing about my post makes me an awful person!!

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 02/07/2021 06:51

The joe browns dress for over 30?? Really? Looks like what my Grandmother wore to my cousins wedding. She’s 89.

MindTheBumps · 02/07/2021 19:18

I am so glad I started the thread, it has given so many gems.

I decided against it when my ability to reach the cakes was in question. I have a couple of other options so will update with my final choice.

I tried to order the blue ASOS dress but my size is out of stock.

I like the shape of the eBay dress but not the pattern. It's something I would wear to a work though.

I am slim and toned for those asking, the jumpsuit does look good and I feel good in it but nothing comes between me and a scone Shock

Too much...... or rather not enough !

Doghead · 11/07/2021 20:40

I think the jumpsuit you posted is lovely and ideal for a hen do. If you've got the figure then go for it.

The other which other posters have linked are total frumpville I'm afraid (there are soooooo many frumps on mumsnet!). You're going from day to night and I don't think any of the others are suitable for a night out

I would wear something like this. Asuming you are over 30. Jesus woman it's afternoon tea.

That a horrendous!!

It's a boozy afternoon tea.....not tea with grandma.

MsFannySqueers · 11/07/2021 20:47

Wear whatever you want OP I love the red jumpsuit! I wish I was young again! The things I used to wear and I looked bloody gorgeous though I say it myself.

Whatwouldnanado · 11/07/2021 21:33

As my Nana would say, you'd catch your death in the red job. I'm the wrong side of 50 and wouldn't pick the JB one by the way. Check what your mates are wearing.

morningstar1 · 12/07/2021 07:24

The red pants and black lace top sound a lot more suitable and you will be far more comfortable.Give the other one to a charity shop.
