Hen Do ... mid afternoon

MindTheBumps · 30/06/2021 09:02

So I am going to a hen do in our nearest big city. Usually hen do = dressed up, but this one starts at 12.30 in the afternoon with a boozy afternoon tea and then moves on to a gin bar.

I have this outfit... but I don't know if its too much because of the time of day? Or does the occasion (hen do) trump the time?

I would wear something like this. Asuming you are over 30. Jesus woman it's afternoon tea.

MindTheBumps · 30/06/2021 14:58

I won't comment on the joe browns dress but I really love ASOS one it's gorgeous!

It's a boozy afternoon tea, not a garden party at the Ritz. So basically cocktails with a few rolls to soak it up.

I think it's lovely too. The Joe Brown's one is dull I agree.

😆 I agree. The Joe Browns one is pretty blah.

Glad you decided not to go with the red jumpsuit though. Strictly from a tit-spill point of view, as I was in the tube yesterday and there was a girl (I'd say likely a size 14) and she was wearing a short backless black long sleeved top. From the front it looked ok. Higher neck and covered her up. It was very obvious she wasn't wearing a bra though as her boobs looked pointy and could have benefitted from the lift and shape of a bra. But when this girl turned her back to me and was holding onto the pole / handle on the tube it made her backless shirt gape from under the armpit and I could see her whole tit just dangling there Confused

Wasn't a good look.

GenitaliaNotGender · 30/06/2021 15:17

I like the red jumpsuit! For anything involving cocktails I think it's absolutely fine, but then my mantra is Wear Whatever The Fuck You Want (with exceptions for things like funerals).

Depending on your height though, the gap at the front could vary and I would worry about it gaping to the sides when you sit down. Some dress tape could prevent that though I think.

MindTheBumps · 30/06/2021 15:31

I think the poster who mentioned sitting down and reaching for food being a problem swung it for me.

Imagine delicately reaching for a scone and plopping a nipple on the plate.

No idea what I was thinking, I will save that for a night stood sipping cocktails and dress more appropriately for afternoon tea.

"It was very obvious she wasn't wearing a bra though as her boobs looked pointy and could have benefitted from the lift and shape of a bra."

Fuck sake, really? Aren't we over judging women in this way? And what does her being a size 14 have to do with it?!

(I actually choose to wear a bra as I think my clothes fit better but all my DDs choose not to and fair play to them!)

Apologies - being a size 14 has. I thing to do with it. I have ADHD and am a very descriptive person. Her size has nothing to do with it. Had I actually had a conversation in person with you I would have also told you she was really tanned, had a fake tattoo in her back (I could tell because it was peeling), her hair was curly and she was wearing pretty cool cargo trousers, etc. My mind works in details. Sometimes I provide more than I need to.

But that doesn't change the fact that she really didn't look very good in the top, and was unknowingly exposing herself to the entire tube in the top.

Yes she has every right to wear it. But that didn't stop me from looking at her and thinking she could definitely make some improvements. Just as many on this thread thought about the red jumpsuit and imagining seeing a person wearing it in the situation as the OP described

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 30/06/2021 15:45

*should say has nothing to do with it

Ellllle · 30/06/2021 15:47

I'm not in the UK but sat next to a huge hens recently - very boozy afternoon tea at an insta type place on the river. The girls were massively done up, all looked amazing, most in shades of pink, lots of bardot (off shoulder) type dresses, but with ruffles, feminine - or some in cropped top with skirt co-ord or cut-out dresses .... the red jumpsuit would have really stuck out. Anyway, point is, I'd be asking what your friends are wearing...

Haha! That did make me laugh!
BusterGonad · 30/06/2021 16:04

Joe Brown's for a hen do! 😂

SleepingStandingUp · 30/06/2021 16:39

What's wrong with Joe Browns?

traumatisednoodle · 30/06/2021 16:43

Does n't it depend on the hen do ?

What’s right with it is really the question

Why are you assuming OP is over 30?

OP your second idea sounds totally fine!

The Joe Brown dress is great for afternoon tea in church! Smile

JMAngel1 · 01/07/2021 04:26

Of course you can wear it - it's a Hen Do. You will look gorgeous.
