Skin + Me, what do people think?

I used a code to get a free sample of this for a month and at the moment I’m distinctly underwhelmed.
It seems expensive for the product size and each daily amount seems small and much less than I would normally use in a night cream.
Am I missing something or is this just a moisturiser/night cream? I’m willing to see how it goes for the month supply but I’m thinking about going back to my usual products of The Ordinary and Aldi brand night cream Lacure.
Has anyone stayed with Skin + Me and thinks it’s worth it?

Month 5 here. I'm not sure if it's the routine and effort I've been putting into following a regime or the product but my skin looks good. It's not a quick fix though. It will take months until you build up your tretinoin level.

tommyspud · 23/06/2021 22:09

@Ulyssesfoot thanks! What’s tretinoin and is that different to retinol?
To be fair I do have a good skin care regime anyway , using vitamin C, serums etc and always cleane/tone moisturise. I just think it’s a bit meh iyswim? Prepared to persevere though Smile

I think it's brilliant, you do have to persevere. If I need more than the daily dose I know that my skin needs moisturizer.
My treatment is for acne so perhaps that makes the difference.

Hoolihan · 23/06/2021 22:49

It's not a moisturiser/night cream, it's tretinoin and whatever other actives you have been given, hence the small dose. The concentration of tretinoin get progressively higher each month so it's worth sticking with it in my opinion. I'm on month four and skin looks really good I have to say. Very bright and healthy, and the lines on my forehead are much less pronounced. I do use a moisturiser too, as advised, as it is a little drying.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/06/2021 22:56

I’m just onto month two, and my pores look tighter, and my skin brighter overall. I use a moisturiser over it at night, and in the morning hyaluronic acid then moisturiser with SPF 15 - if I am going to be out I use an SPF 50 spray over. My new “prescription” is quite a big jump in tret so I hope my skin tolerates it okay.

I had a code for the first month and noticed they took the direct debit for the second month very quickly - too soon for me to decide if I would cancel really - so that’s worth the watching.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/06/2021 22:59

If anyone wants to try my code is LISAR5FHQ which gives you the first month for P&P. I get a credit of £5.

PawsQueen · 23/06/2021 23:03

It's changed my skin. I have before and after pics which are honestly incredible

Ulyssesfoot · 23/06/2021 23:12

It's a retinoid which is more concentrated than retinol @tommyspud. Skin and me does increase its dose each month. My tube has tretinoin, nicanimide and azaelic acid based on my skin requirements. The tret dose is gradually increasing so I've not had any problems with my skin drying. I have a high SPF for daytime and I've a Superdrug own brand vitamin E cleanser and moisturiser. Working well so far.

Thanks everyone!
@Ulyssesfoot do you stop using the retinol if you’re using this retinoid then?

OP posts:
tommyspud · 24/06/2021 05:22

@Judystilldreamsofhorses
I was wondering about the next payment as well. Thanks for that.

Ulyssesfoot · 25/06/2021 10:32

I would stop it. My understanding is that tretinoin is the concentrate so is stronger than retinol. I stand to be corrected though. Just what's in that tube along with cleanser, moisturiser and an SPF should be all you need. Some people use vitamin C serums and things by day but to be honest I've not bothered with anything other than those few steps. Works for me but I do think that the extra time and attention I'm paying to my skin is helpful. I patted my face dry after the shower and wore moisturiser/SPF before this so it's a step up.

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 25/06/2021 10:50

Tret is stronger than ret, if you’re using both together you could irritate your skin.

I’ve noticed a big difference after my first couple of months. I double cleanse, use my tret, then rose hip oil and a bland night cream and that’s it. The Skin & Me people are really good at giving advice so you could talk to them if you’re wondering, I got them to check my oil and moisturiser were ok with the tret.

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 25/06/2021 10:51

Paws you look bloody gorgeous, your skin is amazing!

Sisisimone · 25/06/2021 11:01

Wow paws your skin looks amazing!
OP it's not just a night cream it's prescription only Tretinoin and you really need to do some research or you are going to have serious problems with your skin. Luckily Skin and Me start off on a really low dose so probs no harm done. Did you not read the leaflet that came with it? Please make sure you are using a standalone factor 50 spf every day.
I started off on skin and me but switched to Dermatica after the first month for higher Tret

justanotherneighinparadise · 25/06/2021 11:05

I buy my tret through nefarious means as I’m a tightwad. I think if you can afford the monthly subscription you should carry on and give it at least 6 months. So far I’m on week 13 and I’ve moved up to 0.01% and my skin didn’t like that one bit lol. So I need to back off again. My partner thinks I should quit but in my head I want to give it 6 months.

FreshFaceTime · 25/06/2021 14:21

@justanotherneighinparadise what means? From a fellow tightwad...

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/06/2021 18:01

I rate it actually am a cynic. I preferred it to dermatica for a number of reasons. They've been helpful any time I've emailed asking for advice or not being happy with my 'prescription'. I didn't start on tretinoin until my third month but knew I would get it as they happily emailed me my 6 month 'plan' upon request so I could see the increase and proposed changes and I clocked it appearing from month 3 and going up in dose from there).

I find the amount dispensed perfect and the packaging very clever.

I wouldn't use any other products with active ingredients whilst on a treatment plan that contained them. Have a look at the FAQ's on their site perhaps OP, they explain all this and also suggested routines for cleansing and moisturising- when to, what type of things to use and in what order etc.

I have dry skin so do use moisturiser in conjunction to ward off side effects like drying which works well. I've suffered with horribly low self esteem for years relating to my skin so even though £20 a month is by no means cheap for me (someone out of work with long term illness) it has improved how I feel, so is worth it.

I've found them very responsive if you want a particular ingredient or treatment, email and ask about it. (eg the tretinoin that everyone wants, though the dose will start low so the skin can adjust).

My referral code is JOANNAC5X4C if anyone wants it. Ignore if not! You get your first and fifth month free with it ( you still pay p&p I believe) and I get £5 off my next month. I've never actually referred anyone so am not sure how it works but presumably you enter the code during checkout.

justanotherneighinparadise · 25/06/2021 18:57

AllDayChemist.

UthredofBattenberg · 25/06/2021 21:52

I'm on month 4 and have certainly noticed a difference.

I'd recommend taking some close up selfies and you will be able to see the difference over time

tommyspud · 26/06/2021 06:01

Thanks everyone!
I think I’ll pause the prescription for now and use up the retinol and other products I already have and the restart Smile

Crispsareafoodgroup · 26/06/2021 08:22

If anyone wants a code for 2 free months (I think you pay p&p) you can use LUCYG5UAJ.

Clairaxx · 05/08/2021 14:42

I am a fan ! but was not initially impressed when I got the product and saw the small tube as I tend to slather stuff on 😄I think you definitely have to persevere with it and wait for the tretinoin dose to ncrease and start to see the difference i prefer skin +me over dermatica.
**If anyone wants a code for a months Skin + Me for free, (just pay postage) use my code - CLAIRER53UR

Cherryana · 05/08/2021 20:21

I am on month two and I really rate it for simplifying my routine. A brown sun spot that I have had for ages cleared up - I couldn’t believe it. My red cheeks have vanished and I have had them for 8 years. I think my skin looks clear and glowing!!
