Bag advice

I'm looking for a mid size black tote or large hobo bag but I've some very specific likes and dislikes so thought I'd turn to the gurus for some recommendations Wink

Soft leather, not pebble leather, not too shiny and stiff
No branding or if not so minuscule you can't notice it. I'm not so fussed about a 'big' name in fact probably suffer from reverse snobbery!
Must have lining - ideally at least one pocket but its more that I really dislike the raw leather interiors
Minimal metal - I don't like zips, and studs and fuss
Thinking around 200-250 because I want something I'll use for years and a lot but not so expensive I don't feel like I can't throw it around

I have a Petit Parisian in tan which I love and ticks many boxes but its expensive for what it is even with the current sale and I don't love the look of it in black on the web site

For my work bag I have a pewter longchamp 3D which is excellent but too wide for what I have in mind.

I like the look of aspinal hobo even though hobo its got about the right level of slouch, but beyond what I'm looking to spend

I like this one from ATP Atelier ATP but not the strap, looks uncomfortable. Or this Cuyana but no lining

I guess my ask is any other brand suggestions I should look at? Thanks so much

Look on TKMaxx they have a wide range of bags

CushionsandCandles · 23/06/2021 07:29

I collect bags and have many designer ones.
I bought this in brown/tan last month and love it! Better than a couple of my Mulberry's.
Great quality and great price. (If you can get over it being M&S).

I have the Aspinal hobo in Bordeaux. Originally wanted it in black but the red was ordered for me by mistake and it's my most used bag...

(also v reduced in the sale at the mo)

And use SUMMER15 for an extra 15%

MistyFrequencies · 23/06/2021 08:56

I have a Kerikit bag that fits most of those criteria. Bought a while ago now though so not sure price wise....might be worth a Google

It's very tempting especially on sales. But I'm just not sure how much i'd use the colour. Interesting to hear you use it a lot.

I like those, never heard of the brand before so thank you. Definitely worth investigating

You're right the M&S part is putting me off. Which is ridiculous. It's nice but not wow-ish, but might be worth looking at it in a shop.

It just tends to work well with whatever I'm wearing - would've used to have changed from a work bag in the week to a more casual one at the weekend but never felt I needed to.

I wear a lot of black, white, tan and denim more so than colours I'd say so adds a nice pop

Ninkanink · 23/06/2021 10:36

It depends on what colours you wear, of course, but I use my burgundy bags a lot! It’s a very versatile accent for the warmer colour palette. As pp says it’s perfect with black/white/charcoal/denim so if you wear those a lot it’d be great. And Aspinal bags are fantastic quality.

I don’t really consider it a summer colour though - usually wear it mostly through autumn and winter. But that’s just a personal thing.

NameChangeNameShange · 23/06/2021 10:42

Funny you say that about winter. I live in a warmer climate so whilst I mainly wear black white tan and denim it's very summery versions of those. And I'm not sure the colour works. Conversely I want a black bag which for others would be a wintery thing

It does work perfectly well in summer too, don’t get me wrong - it’s a great colour for white and denim, goes beautifully with yellow/grey, looks good with animal print etc etc. I do bring out my little burgundy saddle bag sometimes in the summer. But I’m a black, tan or light colour(s) woman in the summer time for the most part.

Black works all year round of course so that’s really the most versatile, tan next (for me), but burgundy is much more interesting.

Ninkanink · 23/06/2021 10:49

Coach does similar hobo bags to Aspinal, as do Osprey. Might be sales on atm.

Ninkanink · 23/06/2021 10:50

*does

HelloBunny · 23/06/2021 10:52

&OtherStories. I have a few nice leather from them. Just got a black leather slouchy number in their sale. I’ve had good bags from Oliver Bonas, too. And TK Maxx, of course!

I’m not into brands, just good leather bags.

I was going to say Coach but maybe the wrong type of leather. Good reductions though.

NameChangeNameShange · 23/06/2021 11:03

Ooh Divebar I like that, sadly John Lewis just decided to stop delivering to where I live but worth digging around elsewhere

Also liking Osprey - although their sale and all this talk of colour is now making me wonder about black Grin

Oh God, I should not have clicked on this thread! So many lovely bags I don't need!

HiHoSylvie · 23/06/2021 13:19

PS: Coach Hadley but think it might be pebble leather. It's lovely though

NameChangeNameShange · 23/06/2021 14:37

I'd just been looking at the Hadley - on sale too Wink

I love that in the pretty green colour.

HiHoSylvie · 23/06/2021 14:48

I know @NameChangeNameShange, I'm so tempted by the green! The navy is on sale in John Lewis too, for £210.

HiHoSylvie · 23/06/2021 14:54

Oh the navy is on the Coach site for £175... Very tempting!

Ninkanink · 23/06/2021 14:57

Navy is great too. I’m holding out for a pre-loved Anya Hindmarch for that colour though - got a specific one in mind...

HiHoSylvie · 23/06/2021 15:01

I am seriously tempted, but I've bought two handbags in the past week Blush. Both half price in my defense.
