non patterned, non frilly summer dresses - where?

has anyone seen any? i've been trawling the internet for days and went to a shopping centre earlier but all i'm seeing are patterned, flowery and ruffled things which i don't like (and would make me look even fatter which i'm very self conscious about).

i'm looking for a sleeveless casual midi dress, non clingy, cotton/linen or possibly viscose and pockets would be a bonus.

favourite colour is blue. size 16 (possibly 18 in some styles because of boobs and hips), budget up to £100.

can anyone help me please?

Cos do that kind of dress

Hotcuppatea · 22/06/2021 22:04

I've recently ordered this one www.warehousefashion.com/wrap-front-belted-soft-shift-/AWW00589.html?color=136

lilyfire · 22/06/2021 22:07

I have this one. The fabric feels lovely. Hush have quite a few plain and midi www.hush-uk.com/else-jersey-shirt-dress-navy/000151-1659.html#list=Dresses#list=Dresses

SIL got a lovely one in GAP a couple of weeks ago. It was strappy though.

DancesWithDaffodils · 22/06/2021 22:15

This sort of thing?

Suspect this would be clingy, but

Next and M&S will let you filter by no pattern, and sleeveless

I have a couple of plain jersey summer dresses from hush. Mine are both navy, but they usually do other colours too.

poppym12 · 22/06/2021 22:20

warehouse was one of my go-to places for dresses @Hotcuppatea but i haven't bought anything since they were bought by Boohoo. is the quality still as good?

i like one of the Cos ones in navy @Rainallnight, thank you.

i'll have a look at Hush @lilyfire, thank you. are they usually true to size?

strappy would be great @toomuchfaster. do you have any idea which one it was? i've had some nice dresses from Gap in the past.

Uniqlo have lots of this type of dress (just scroll past the marimekko ones)

hennybeans · 22/06/2021 22:36

Seasalt have some beautiful linen dresses at the moment. Pockets, great quality linen, £75, plain colours, simple a- line cut. I have a navy dress from last summer and just bought a teal colour recently.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 22/06/2021 22:41

Don't know if these are too baggy:

Oliver Bonas?

Mindgone · 23/06/2021 11:48

I have a beautiful one bought recently from Woolovers, it might be just what you’re looking for 😊

JaninaDuszejko · 23/06/2021 11:53

Boden is known for its patterns but they do cotton dresses including a token black or navy one in most designs.

Thank you all for the ideas. I've received a couple of parcels today with various dresses to try on.

That me + em one is lovely but I really can't wear anything yellow, orange or certain shades of red as it makes me look like I've been embalmed.

Found a nice linen dress on woolovers, somewhere I'd never have thought to look so thank you to the poster who mentioned them.

If you're interested in seeing more this isn't in the sale but has lots of decent reviews. There's another lovely denim wrap over dress, but the neck is annoyingly high. Worth seeing what is left in the Toast sale. (And their sizes are usually generous so you'd probably be an easy size 16.)

Bertiebiscuit · 29/06/2021 18:55

All dresses seem to be horrible frumpy flowery "little house on the prairie" jobs this season - all too long, baggy, with weird big sleeves, none remotely sophisticated or suitable for those of us who don't want to look like Stepford wives, sister wives or Handmaids
