Hair woe *pics*

Hey all. I’ve been battling to accept my natural wavy hair for years now. Weirdly I always wore it wavy and liked it and then a comment from someone made me paranoid that I look bad. On a windy rainy day though I have no chance of keeping it straight and am trying to accept my fate! Do I look ok?
I’m really struggling with body dysmorphia at the moment and having hospital help for it so please be kind.

I like it, it’s nice to have a couple of different looks.

FindingMeno · 22/06/2021 16:09

It's lovely.
I can't imagine the fun with different styles with hair like that. I would love a bit more wave in my hair!

66babe · 22/06/2021 16:23

I think it's beautiful
Suits you and looks very healthy and natural
She's probably jealous

ThatOtherPoster · 22/06/2021 16:28

Love it! You look like one of those cool hairstyle pictures, with the choppy waves in a longish bob. Honestly, you’ve got really nice hair.

Maybe experiment with colour if you’re feeling fugly? I discovered box dye during lockdown and I sodding LOVE IT now. I read loads of online reviews and watch YouTube videos of people using the exact colour I’m thinking of, and then do it. It really cheered me up when everything was so miserable.

Please don’t let one horrible person’s comment affect your self esteem. (I know that’s an easy thing to type but way harder to do!) I’m a redhead and had sooooo many negative hair comments growing up. But some people are, in psychology terms, just absolute twats.

GoldRhino · 22/06/2021 16:38

@ThatOtherPoster is it possible to do highlights with box dye or is that too tricky?

OP posts:
SwimBaby · 22/06/2021 16:50

No don’t attempt it. If you did want a bit of a change you could try a semi permanent colour. Your hair is a really pretty colour as it is though.

ThatOtherPoster · 22/06/2021 16:50

Yes! As long as you don’t mind them being chunkier than a hairdresser would do them. I think it’s fiddly to do at home. I’d probably get those done in a salon. But you can get kits to do highlights.

Watch some videos. Honestly they’re awesome. It gets addictive.

Shodan · 22/06/2021 16:54

Gah.

I've spent many years (and a lot of money) on various gadgets to achieve both of the looks you're sporting and still haven't managed anything as nice as yours.

I'm envious Grin

Katkinsgreyy · 22/06/2021 17:19

You hair is nice!
I love wavy and curly hair. My hair has mixed textures which is a pain!
The underneath is very wavy with some ringlets. The front and top is straight as a pencil!

Three0fivepointfour · 22/06/2021 18:13

I think you’re hair is beautiful. Whoever cut it has done a good job. They understand waves. It’s similar in texture to mine. When I was younger I used to wish it was dead straight or super curly. Now I work with what I’ve got.

I actually cut it myself! Watched a YouTube video with a woman cutting her own waves using the devacurl method and copied it. I recommend!

Bless you @GoldRhino you sound like you’re having a terrible time. Not nice of your sister to kick you when you’re down (I assume she’s aware that you’re struggling with body dysmorphia). Your hair is lovely and looks great with the mousse. I’m not sure if this will help you at all but I often use dry shampoo (batiste) to give my hair some extra volume, even just after a wash! It’s magic stuff.

SigrunGard · 22/06/2021 18:58

My hair is very similar to yours (except somewhat greyer!). Full blown curly girl leaves my hair greasy too but I’ve still found using sulphate free shampoo and conditioner makes a difference ( only conditioner I’ve ever been able to use without name hair being vile by the next day). Even though I’m grey I use Tresemme Pro Collection Colour Shineplex and it’s not pricey. If I want to put a bit more effort I scrunch in Tresemme Botanical Air Dry Gel (there’s also a curl cream) and just leave it to it

I’m sorry that your sister feels she can say something like that to you ☹️

Three0fivepointfour · 22/06/2021 19:29

Wow, that’s amazing. I’m going to look that up!

Looks great in the second shot - and great cut! I won't show you my own self-cut. You look fab.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 22/06/2021 20:43

Honestly ignore your sister your hair is fine !! It’s fine which is a pain, I have fine hair and it needs washing every day otherwise it’s lank but yours is a very nice colour and length on you !

I use Christopher Robin products they are great for fine hair, the salt scrub I absolutely love as it gives my hair bounce and is not as harsh as it sounds !!

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 22/06/2021 20:58

Humm I said fine way too much there !

DinaofCloud9 · 22/06/2021 21:03

I think it looks lovely. Very beach babe. My hair is totally straight and curls just fall out so I'm jealous of people with wavy hair.

66babe · 22/06/2021 21:05

@Bigpaintinglittlepainting I think your post was " fine " 🤣💐

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 22/06/2021 21:08

@66babe Grin thanks

poppym12 · 22/06/2021 21:17

ooohhh thank you for posting the video. we have very similar hair but i recently parted with 80 quid for a trim!!! i'd been hacking at it myself so when i moved to a new town i thought i'd treat myself to a proper cut. i won't bother doing that again as yours looks lovely so i shall get my scissors out when i next need a trim.

GoldRhino · 22/06/2021 21:27

Thanks @poppym12 !

I haven’t found a hairdresser who does a good wavy trim but find this method of doing it works fine. I use a pair of hairdressing scissors that I got some Amazon for about a tenner.

Your hair looks nice. If you like it you shouldn’t give a toss what anyone else thinks. Tell your sister she isn’t very nice and you didn’t ask for her opinion.

TheCanyon · 22/06/2021 21:33

Out of interest, what is your sister's hair like? Is she jealous. My hair was poker straight and find up until I had dd 12, literally wouldn't keep a wave/curl, I even got a perm at 18. Now it's really 'beachy' wavy I've no clue wtf to do with it but just let it be, but I'm a lazy shi t too tbf
