Black trainers with style and substance?

Myshitisreal · 17/06/2021 21:31

Hi all

Im looking for a pair of black trainers to wear with anything. I recently returned a pair of all black Adidas gazelles. They came up a little tight on the toe and felt... Flimsy?

I have plantar fascitis and chronic pain so I need a little more from my trainers.

I don't like fussy details. All black preferred but will look at other options. Not really looking for platform. Don't follow fashion, have my own style I guess you could call alternative. Wear DM boots a lot. Standard Size 7. Ideal scenario is to order online, and return if not suitable. Don't mind paying then getting a refund. Budget I think I would go up to £200 but they would have to be amazing. Can't think of anything else. Converse are too flimsy, vans haven't been my favourite - a bit ugly/chunky.

Happy to answer questions. Very greatful for help. I will just say if something isn't to my taste if that's okay.

Skechers. I've had the same issues with plantar facsitis and these were all I wore, including at work which is an office.

66babe · 17/06/2021 21:57

I agree .... you can't beat a pair of Sketchers!

Partey · 17/06/2021 21:59

Shame about the gazelles- they really help my pf.

I’ve just bought some black Nike Daybreak trainers

whatwouldjudydo · 17/06/2021 22:01

I have original vans, high top converse and some black puma rs trainers when dms aren't suitable

Myshitisreal · 17/06/2021 22:49

Can you provide links for me or specifics if possible so I can look up a particular model? Please & thanks.

I have sketchers walk for work, they're OK but they're not the kind of thing I'm looking for. Going to look up the specific ones mentioned so far thank you.

Ok, to add to my fussy pants list - I'm not overly keen on a white sole it seems.

@partey did you size up in them? The 7 my toes were hitting the top of the trainer as soon as I put them on. They didn't seem to be very sturdy

I love my very old sketchers too - they are from 2014 and still going, though I'd like to replace them for backup. They were extra extra wide too and I don't think they do that fitting any more. They are traditional style lace ups, all black with some white on the sole. I have prescription insoles in mine and there is plenty of room for them. They are pretty soft and the support isn't as firm as some other brands but they fit me so well (ankle problems here, can you tell Wink).

MountainDweller · 17/06/2021 23:12

I'm sorry - your later posts weren't showing when I started writing Blush I'll be following for back up ideas!

Myshitisreal · 17/06/2021 23:27

No don't be sorry, I appreciate all suggestions 😊 I wouldn't say no white soles, it's just not my initial preference but I guess every pair is different.!

Ill look up sketchers in general

I’ve got some black New Balance and they’re really comfy.

Also love these but appreciate they are not black.... lol!

alloutofcareunits · 17/06/2021 23:56

I have black New Balance I think they're 373s very comfortable and several people have complimented me on them

Myshitisreal · 18/06/2021 00:19

The new balance are nice but I have to be honest, that big N on the side puts me off and they all have it.

I've owned many converse in the past ( I changed into a purple glittery pair on my wedding day) but sadly I can't wear them with comfort. How to explain... I can feel the ground through them? Perhaps I thunder as I walk 😂 but I just can't wear them any more.

My husband has vans. He bought a pair off ebay last year and they were obviously fakes. The seller refunded them and he gave them to me. They were supposed to be a mens 9 but they fit me. I'm not overly keen on ordering vans due to this and matching my husband 😂

I actually really like these www.schuh.co.uk/womens/superga-2341-alpina-cotu-black-trainers/1971317070/
The style and simplicity is great. I'm unsure if they're platforms or foot supporting. Google has only got me so far.

Some of the trainers look space age to me with the big soles. I think I'm getting old 😂

Thank you so far too everyone. I'm hovering over the button of these supergas.... Unsure

You can insoles to make converse a bit better.
I think we have different taste because I like a lot of new balance styles and don't like the ones you've linked.
I agree with you on the big soles though, they're everywhere and I don't get it!

What about the Veja V-10 (all black)?

I have no idea if you'd like them or if they'd be supportive Grin

MaloInAnAppleTree · 18/06/2021 00:45

ASICS are the absolute dogs bollocks with PF - I can feel my feet healing when I put them on. These ones are pretty good I think if you want a sporty style.

Thank you So MUCH

I've ordered the superga I linked to a couple of posts ago and these as they're all black www.schuh.co.uk/womens/vans-comfycush-old-skool-black-trainers/1994117070/

Everyone's brilliant. I'll see how I get on with these.

It's actually very hard for me to say no I don't like that etc. It feels rude so that was me trying to be assertive. Still made me cringe though 😬

@anotheremma my style's definitely not everyones cup of tea, don't worry 😂. Thank you for all the recommendations. I spent a few hours looking and missed the last few posts. I'm terrible at procrastinating for days and days, so this was very decisive for me.

I will report back.! Keep putting recommendations up if you have any, it might help others

I really like those Vans 👍

Myshitisreal · 18/06/2021 12:19

Thanks, hoping one of the two is suitable!

If its not the only trainers I can wear are mizuno wave knit. They are amazing. Supportive, comfortable, shock absorbing and don't play havoc with my wide feet or messed up joints so if neither of the ones you've ordered are any good have a go with those. They also last a really long time
