Birthday bag help

I’m looking for help finding a bag for DH to get me for my birthday. Budget up to £500, crossbody, larger than a camera bag but smaller than a Coach Hobo (approx 20cm x 20cm or thereabouts). Prefer navy, burgundy or oxblood, with minimal bling/logos. Here are a few I have seen, what do you think?

The Osprey one is lovely, the rest are a bit too boxy

Bananaman123 · 11/06/2021 21:29

Fossil, not sure if too large? www.fossil.com/en-gb/products/jolie-crossbody/ZB7716599.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6YnpurWQ8QIVDtTtCh1uOg1oEAQYASABEgIzyvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Also I think coach Sutton hobo is smaller than normal hobo, I have 2 and love the size

evtheria · 11/06/2021 21:34

Have you looked at Charles & Keith?
Or on Wolf & Badger, they stock many brands and usually sell a good range of handbags in your budget.

WeeMadArthur · 12/06/2021 00:00

@blue1000 I’m second guessing myself now. I quite like this style as well but it’s too small and the colours aren’t inspiring me.

@Bananaman123 they are nice, but too similar to the Coach Edie I have.

@evtheria I haven’t looked there, but I will now. No love for the ones I’ve listed?

I can't see the brandalley ones - link takes me to the homepage. Of your other options I'd go for the mulberry. But I'm not loving any of them tbh - they all seem a bit bland. If you have a £500 budget I'd look around for a bit longer

WeeMadArthur · 12/06/2021 00:50

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously no idea why those links don’t work. I’ve scunnered myself looking for a bag, I’m not sure I like any of them anymore! I know they are quite plain and simple, but that’s me!

I’m not sure I love any of them I’m afraid. I’ve just bought this in grey and I love it www.aspinaloflondon.com/products/lottie-bag-in-bordeaux-pebble

ifyougetthechancedoit · 12/06/2021 01:10

I do this all the time!

I've got a coach bag - I can't remember the name, but it's the same size as the hobo bags but more structured. I also have a Michael Kors camera bag.

I'd get the Anthony. I would like one, but I just can't bring myself to spend that much. I just don't think I deserve it Confused. I'm
Sue you do though, sk get one!!!

blisstwins · 12/06/2021 01:19

I would do a custom order from massaccesi. You choose the leather and hardware and lining. Penelope grand messenger is something you would like. I found out about this brand here, and have had several a bags made and now can’t buy or use anything else!

I have the small Mulberry Anthony in that color. I am not sure if it is my favorite bag (the shape is a little boxy) BUT I have used it for everything, taken no care of it, and it still looks exactly as it did the day I bought it. That's more than three years ago now.
It is such a handy cross-body that I use it for walking the dog (so stuff dog-treats in there) or days out with my toddler (half-eaten snacks, nappy) and despite all this harsh use it still looks perfect. I am REALLY rough on my things and my other bags in this price-range (Coach, Kate Spade) l spoil really quickly.
If you like it, it is really going to last you, so go for it.

WeeMadArthur · 12/06/2021 09:28

@FizzyPink I think I like plainer things than you I’m very non bling, as little in the bag as possible

WeeMadArthur · 12/06/2021 09:30

@ifyougetthechancedoit I feel a bit queasy at the thought of spending that much too, especially as I haven’t been able to see any in person.

OP posts:
WeeMadArthur · 12/06/2021 09:48

@blisstwins I really like the Penelope but the colours aren’t quite right, the Port and Marine Blue were just too light.

OP posts:
WeeMadArthur · 12/06/2021 09:59

@Ruthietuthie that’s reassuring to know, I actually want to get this bag to replace the one I wrecked because of stuffing treats, leads and poo bags in. I’m not the most careful with bags, which is why I stick to darker colours as I think they are more forgiving. Plus for some reason I viscerally love Oxblood in a way that I don’t love sensible Navy. Since lockdown I’ve used a much smaller bag than usual as I’m not out all day, so don’t need to take a makeup bag etc. I only really need to fit a phone, keys, purse ( and mask and hand sanitizer) in it, plus DS is older so no more bottles of water, plastic tat, snacks etc so my usual dependable bags feel a bit surplus to requirements. I’m not the most careful with bags, which is why I stick to darker colours as I think they are more forgiving.

I would go for the Mulberry, but then I have a bit of a thing for them !

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/06/2021 10:11

The small Antony is very small, you can't fit much in. I'd go for the larger size if you go for that one but they're a bit more expensive.

How about this from Hill and Friends? It's Emma Hill's company. She used to be the Creative Director at Mulberry

Not keen on black and the mulberry one is a bit boxy. Osprey good value!
