I'm 5'7" why do I have to buy "short" trousers?

Admittedly I rarely wear heels so they need to fit with flats, but looking about me, few women wear heels on a daily basis now.

All regular trousers are far too long. I've just ordered a pair of short linen trousers from Monsoon and they fit beautifully, the length just touches the ground without shoes. The first pair from any shop I've kept in years. I'd pretty much given up wearing trousers because they're always miles too long.

I don't know why I hadn't thought to try petite before, except that I'm not 5"3" Grin

It’s all about proportion!
I’m 5’4” and have a very short torso - so waists are never in right place and only plunge bras fit
I have to buy long length trousers - even the garage comment on my seat position in car when they service it - as I don’t look and am not that tall

Aaaaw look at you all! My fellow sausage dog humans!

😂

Hi I'm 5'7 and need extra long. Like a poster upthread I don't understand why men get a choice of lengths as standard but most womens ranges are only one length.

Lol at sausage dog humans! Grin

What are we of stumpy torso and long of leg? Ragdolls? Spiders? Permastilts?

MaloInAnAppleTree · 09/06/2021 11:41

Leg to torso ratio innit. In my twenties I shared a house with two blokes, one 5’9” and one six foot, who shared a single black tie suit between them because they had exactly the same length of leg and arm.

Fromage · 09/06/2021 11:58

Malo I imagine when wearing it, one looked like he was in an overcoat, and the other, a bullfighter.

MaloInAnAppleTree · 09/06/2021 12:06

Yes you’d think that the jacket length would be weird looking but they both looked surprisingly OK - both slim builds. Three inches difference in where a man’s jacket sits on his thigh is a lot less noticeable than three inches difference at your ankles and wrists.

I have to buy tall for tops & trousers although I'm only 5' 5" because I have long arms & legs.

Otherwise I look like I'm growing out of my clothes.

They are all too long in the body though so the waist is never in the right place.

Serpenta · 09/06/2021 12:24

This!! So much more of a problem having long legs than short ones.

Lies! Long legs are a very desirable physical asset. No one ever looks at our sausage dog bodies and thinks 'mmmm, love those little stumpy legs of hers'.

I'm 5'7"
I used to buy tall jeans/trousers but I've realised I'm not long legged. I'm a regular with a long body. I always thought height went by whole body height, not legs vs torso. Stupid I know

messybun101 · 09/06/2021 13:44

If you're not in proportion (like me) What would you go by if you're buying a jumpsuit?

EugeniaGrace · 09/06/2021 14:02

This is me too. Fitted dresses need to be tall so that they don’t flare out for hips where my waist is or dig into my rib cage where they expect my waist to be. Trousers are short or take up but I can usually get to fit.

I would also never buy a jump suit. To fit my shoulders the crotch is too high so it is a form of torture. Two piece outfits work best. I need to size up full body swim suits.

Haha agreed, long legs look much better. Just more of a pain when shopping for trousers or floor-length dresses.
