Am I too old for a denim jacket?

I'm 56.

And should it be blue?

No way!! 50 soon and have a denim one and a peach one!

Serpenta · 05/06/2021 17:27

You may as well ask if you're too old to wear a jacket at 56.

Of course you're not too old.

Ninkanink · 05/06/2021 17:27

Of course not.

DareIask · 05/06/2021 17:29

I'm really trying to get out of a clothes rut, lose some weight and generally feel better about myself. I just don't want to look mutton dressed as lamb

Absolutely not too old. A blue one will do you for every outfit.
Get a black one too if you're feeling flush

TipseyTorvey · 05/06/2021 17:38

I don't think anyone can be too old to wear something as classic as a denim jacket but you can be too large of boob as I've discovered. Damn things never hang right on my huge chest. Shame as I like the look with khaki jeans and a white shirt.

VanGoghsDog · 05/06/2021 17:39

I just bought a pink one from M&S, I've never had one before.

I'm 53.

It's a bit boxy, think I'd prefer a bit of a dart in the sides as I'm a quite booby and a size 14, but I guess they're just like is that. I like it well enough, for days you don't need a proper cost and don't want to wear a cardigan!

Midnightstar76 · 05/06/2021 17:41

Heck no!!! I will rock one in my 90’s if I can

osbertthesyrianhamster · 05/06/2021 17:42

Of course not! If you like it, wear it!

VanGoghsDog · 05/06/2021 17:44

I didn't fancy a blue one myself as I wear jeans most of the time and double denim is awful! (I know it's still denim but you know what I mean)

Black doesn't go with jeans either. The pink will go well with jeans and and dresses, and linen trousers etc.

I bought a bra too - when will I learn my lesson about M&S bras? Anyway, doesn't fit, the cups are too small and the wires float somewhere over my sternum as if they are levitating. Annoyingly they sent me two by mistake as well.

Macarena1990 · 05/06/2021 17:44

My mum (71) was wearing one last week and it really suited her! Never too young

Kitkat151 · 05/06/2021 17:46

My Mum is 85.... she’s just bought a Mint Velvet denim jacket

TableFlowerss · 05/06/2021 17:47

No you’re not to old!!!!

bigbluebus · 05/06/2021 17:49

I'm 57 and I wear one - got it in Next a couple of years ago. It's mid blue.

DareIask · 05/06/2021 17:50

@VanGoghsDog would you say the M&S one is true to size?

OP posts:
TheDogsMother · 05/06/2021 17:51

I'm 57 and have a blue one. I also have trainers in many colours so perhaps the fashion police are coming for me.

AuntieDolly · 05/06/2021 17:51

I've just bought a fat face denim jacket and I'm 59. I thought I looked ok

DareIask · 05/06/2021 17:53

@TipseyTorvey next have a fuller bust option if that's any help to you

I'm 55, I've just bought one cheaply from Vinted just to see how it fits with the rest of my wardrobe and whether I feel comfortable wearing it. Did the same with Matalan rip off DMs. I'm more likely to feel less self conscious trying something out of my comfort zone if I know I haven't spent megabucks so this has been a great way of doing it.

This is a great idea x

I'm 42 I've got a cropped bleached one from tesco which I love.

I notice next have some lovely distressed shaped ones this year I'm tempted by too.

I think with denim jackets you have to style them with no other denim or they look a bit dated. Over a dress etc

No one is too old they are very neutral I think

MrsFin · 05/06/2021 18:00

I've just started wearing one at 60.
I checked with DD first and she liked it.

VanGoghsDog · 05/06/2021 18:04
@VanGoghsDog would you say the M&S one is true to size?
I always order a 14 and it fits. It might be a bit loose round the middle but I think that's because it's my boobs that make me a 14.

Postdatedpandemic · 05/06/2021 18:30

Never too old. Lots out there this year.
Boxy cut white ones are fashionable. Classic blue denim and some quite fitted ones are about.

Rina66 · 05/06/2021 18:47

You're never too old!
