Am I too old for a denim jacket?

I'm 56.

And should it be blue?

I'm 60 in a few weeks and have been wearing one for years! Love it, so versatile.

marypoppinsreturns · 05/06/2021 18:52

I nearly bought a blue one today, and then changed my mind. Not had one for about 20 years. Think I'll go back for it now! I'm 47.

Teawaster · 05/06/2021 20:14

I'm nearly 59 and have a denim one and a black one . Def not too old . The only thing I think I'm too old for now is a really short skirt

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/06/2021 20:16

Of course you're not too old. And it can be whatever colour you want.

WinstonsWeirdVole · 05/06/2021 20:18

At 56 you are not “too old for” anything (except maybe a a babygro).

borntobequiet · 05/06/2021 20:20

I like these threads because I can say “I’m 67 and have said item”.
In this case I have two, a dark blue one and a light blue washed effect one. And two leather jackets as well, one of them red. Go me.

Craftycorvid · 05/06/2021 20:25

A denim jacket is a classic, surely? Anyhow, wear what feels good! Age be damned.

StevieKnickerbockerglory · 05/06/2021 20:27

God no! Definitely not too old.

Fferny1 · 05/06/2021 21:00

No, not at all. I'm 57 and I have one. I've kept the same one for years as it fits really nicely and is a blue/black colour, in the traditional jeans style.

I also have a Denim Kimono style blue jacket with a belt, that I bought from Gap years ago. This goes really well with blue & white floaty skirts.

Op, I was about to post a similar post to this ... asking about chunky platform trainers and age 😄

GintyMcGinty · 05/06/2021 21:03

There's an age limit? I did not know that.

Arbadacarba · 05/06/2021 21:04

Unless the clothing item in question is a Babygrow, the answer to 'am I too old to wear it' is always no.

Serpenta · 05/06/2021 21:05

Courtney Love is 56. Can't imagine her asking 'am I too old for this item of clothing?'

augustusglupe · 05/06/2021 21:07

I'm 56 and have a pale blue denim jacket.
I wear it with a maxi dress or my wide black trousers and a t shirt.

DramaAlpaca · 05/06/2021 21:08

I'm your age, OP. I have three denim jackets, one blue, one pink and a khaki one. I love them.

goose1964 · 05/06/2021 21:13

I'm 57 and have finally replaced my old red denim jacket with a blue one.

Howyoualldoworkme · 05/06/2021 21:18

I'm 65 and lost a lot of weight and quite fancied a denim jacket so I ordered a couple from H&M. There was a beautifully soft one with Lyocell that I fell in love with so I bought it!
My 28 year old hairdresser asked me where I got it as she thought it looked so nice.
Go for it! Smile

Howyoualldoworkme · 05/06/2021 21:19

I bought a pink cord jacket as well Grin

VanillaAndOrange · 07/06/2021 17:41

You're never too old for a denim jacket as long as you wear the sort of clothes that look good with one.

I'm 55 and I have 2. One is a sort of muted purply pink, the other is almost white (probably blue originally and then bleached before it went to the shop, as there is still a bit of blue around the folds and seams) and rather short. That's my favourite one - it looks really good over dresses.

I'm not that keen on classic blue ones any more but I don't think that's got anything to do with my age. I just don't tend to wear much blue (even my jeans are more likely to be black or cream nowadays). If blue suits you, don't hesitate!

herecomesthsun · 07/06/2021 17:46

I read somewhere they are supposed to be a bit "cheugy"? (I am 57 myself Grin so I wouldn't know.)

VanGoghsDog · 07/06/2021 18:06

What does cheugy mean?

StevieKnickerbockerglory · 07/06/2021 18:10

It means associated with millennials, the 2010s and not trendy Shock! I'm a millennial (technically) weeps SadWink

DinaofCloud9 · 07/06/2021 18:15

Cheugy apparently means trying too hard but I'm not sure how wearing a denim jacket is trying too hard. It's a perfectly normal item of clothing Hmm

Holothane · 07/06/2021 18:18

No I’m 55 soon and must get one for the summer.

BrownTableMat · 07/06/2021 18:24

Bravissimo do denim jackets designed for the larger of nork

SilverBangle · 07/06/2021 18:31

I’m 57. I wear my denim jackets more than any other. I have a blue denim jacket that I wear day to day - never with blue denim jeans though- and a purple/pink denim jacket that I wear for casual occasions - like a meet up for a pub lunch.

You’re never too old for a denim jacket
