What do you have? I've been thinking about this for almost 2 years but then lockdown hit and not bought any. I was looking at Tiffany and Michael Korrs but I know they are heavily copied and look like the cheap ones you find being sold at the beach abroad. I've been looking at Chanel.

Also how do I find what shape suits me? I went to a shop today but it's hard to view them as you are wearing a mask and each pair is cleaned afterwards so felt reluctant to try lots on!!

Have a look at secret sales website. You won’t be able to try them on but the discounts on designer sunglasses are excellent.

Tiffany. They don’t look cheap, I tried them on and pulled my mask down (I moved away from everyone) if I’m paying £300 I needed to make sure they suited me.

Alocasia · 30/05/2021 07:29

Quality-wise, the Michael Kors ones are nothing special. What’s your budget? I find the quality is much better with specific designer glasses brands over and above designer-branded glasses.

Alocasia · 30/05/2021 07:32

Also, in my opinion the ‘rules’ about what suits different face shapes are rubbish. There’s no better way than to try them on, don’t feel bad as it’s not hard to sanitise them after (most places just put them in a UV cabinet for a few minutes) Where I work we let people remove their mask to try them on, you need to know they look right!

I had a pair of Chanel sunglasses, lovely but too big for my face. They sat on my cheek and would rub foundation away. I sold them on eBay at a little loss, but the buyer was really pleased with them.
I now have a pair of prescription Mulberry sunglasses from Boots, fit well and no cheek rubbing:)

I've got a 20 year old pair of Gucci sunglasses and a more recent pair of Missoni but as I can only wear them with contact lenses which I hardly ever wear I normally just have non branded prescription sunnies these days. Quality wise there is not much difference between them. TK Maxx often have designer sunglasses for very reasonable prices.

KaptainKaveman · 30/05/2021 09:00

The Jackie Ohh RayBans are fabulous and suit everyone!

Postdatedpandemic · 30/05/2021 09:00

Serengeti, Rayban or other sunglasses maker. Lenses really matter.
Although I occasionally do a pot luck at tkmaxx, high fashion for £30.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/05/2021 09:03

Whatever you buy get polarised lenses, dh has been telling me their better for years & damnit he’s right.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 30/05/2021 09:05

Twelve year old pair of aviators from Jimmy Choo
Five year old pair of big ‘squoval’ from Tom Ford
Ten year old pair of red ‘fun’ Marc Jacobs
Five year old pair of mental but amazing Prada

I buy expensive - if I buy cheap, I lose them. Pricey and I always know where they are!

Pieceofpurplesky · 30/05/2021 09:10

When it come to sunglasses Raybans top any list!

Thewinterofdiscontent · 30/05/2021 09:10

I get mine from eBay. They all get scratched, sat on or stolen eventually so I don’t believe in paying designer prices.
More important than style ( sunglasses go in and out of fashion like everything else) are the design.
I found:
If you wear them up on your head a lot don’t get ones with the nose grips as they get stuck in your hair.
Metal frames get bloody hot in the sun. I only wear plastic/wood frames now.
I can’t see to drive if they are too dark.
Brown shades feels better to my eyes than others. Blue gives me a squint.
Ray Bans fit well and seem to scratch less. Prada glasses are similar to Chanel but can be found cheaper. Gucci glasses are also good value.second hand.

user7836 · 30/05/2021 09:11

I have several Ray Bans, I love their iconic styles. I wouldn't pay designer prices for any other kind of brand, I'm not a Chanel/Dior type of person they'd look ridiculous with the clothes I wear!

Ireolu · 30/05/2021 09:38

Get a couple of very cheap pairs to see what suits your face then get an expensive pair with similar shape.
Raybans look nice on most people.
Personally I have bought and loved bulgari, Dior, Versace and mui mui. Enjoy shopping

JM10 · 30/05/2021 09:49

Raybans are the only ones I'd pay designer prices for. Wayfarers suit my face better than any other sunglasses. In fact, I might order some new prescription ones now 😁

ememem84 · 30/05/2021 09:51

Another raybans fan here.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 30/05/2021 10:03

Bare in mind how quickly fashions change. If you want them to last you might prefer a more classic design than something that screams this season.

gagrag · 30/05/2021 10:08

I'm a sunglasses fiend my fave are Ray-bans, Chloe & D&G. Have about 20 pairs ☺️

jennyfromtheblock22 · 30/05/2021 10:41

Gah this thread is making me want a pair of Ray Bans! I already have the Erika and love them. Any suggestions for styles that suit a long face? Sorry to hijack the thread!

gagrag · 30/05/2021 10:44

Cats 1000 should work if Erika do.

jennyfromtheblock22 · 30/05/2021 11:15

@gagrag thanks they're gorgeous

gagrag · 30/05/2021 11:32

👍🏼

XingMing · 30/05/2021 12:02

Maui Jim are comfortable and very good quality lenses. Some of the fashion styles are lovely but now need Rx sunnies, so I haven't looked at this year's.

ChinookPilotsGoVertical · 30/05/2021 13:06

Randolph Engineering. Suppliers to air forces & airlines worldwide. Good choice of frame colours, lens colours & sizes. Glass lenses, not plastic, they cut out glare but don't "black out" other colours, useful for driving etc.

LakeShoreD · 30/05/2021 13:11

Chanel have a virtual try on thing on their website. Also if you’re in London zones 1-3 they’ll bring a selection to your house to try on for £12. Although I have Chanel sunglasses that I like as much as a random Walgreens purchase- not sure a designer label counts for much tbh!
