Do you find high waisted jeans comfortable?

This last year there’s been a lot of people saying they haven’t been wearing jeans in lockdown as they are ‘so uncomfortable’. Since high waisted styles are pretty much all prevalent these days I assume such people are wearing high waisted jeans. I personally have never been able to wear high waisted jeans, they constrict my stomach and induce painful trapped wind (sorry, tmi). I can only wear low rise (at least two inches below my belly button) but then I find them comfortable to wear all day, including as casual wear at home.

I know high waisted jeans are very popular but am interested in whether that’s because that is what is available and fashionable, or whether people are in fact secretly cursing them?

Yes, very comfy. But I've had 2 sections, so that's probably why

lavenderlou · 24/05/2021 02:43

No, but I am very straight up and down and don't really have a defined waist so I don't think they are designed for me. The ones that fit nicely around the legs and bum are a bit tight on my waist. I don't like low rise either for the same reason - I don't have much in the way of hips so they fall down. I'm lucky that mid-rise jeans exist!

Xztop · 24/05/2021 06:34

I find them very comfortable but then I am tall, not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I also love the fact I can sit down without showing the world my builders bum!

StarlightLady · 24/05/2021 06:52

I hate jeans or any other trousers which are high waisted. I feel as if l’m being cut in half when l sit down.

DancesWithDaffodils · 24/05/2021 06:58

High waist all the way. Low rise just fall down, and result in them being indecent. A belt needs to be uncomfortably tight to keep them in place.
There is nothing flattering about low rise jeans finishing at the widest part of my body.

EversoDelighted · 24/05/2021 06:59

I only wear high-rise, they are so much comfier (pear shape). Low rise ones fall down, give me an overhang, tops come untucked when I move, I spend all day hoicking them up. Whereas high-waist ones just stay put and are comfy all day long.

RampantIvy · 24/05/2021 08:00

I wish the rise of jeans didn't change with fashions. As a fellow pear shape I hated the low rise fashion and just gave up on trying to buy jeans at the time. We need to have different rises for different shaped women all the time, not just when fashion dictates.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 24/05/2021 08:06

Lots of people are saying they prefer them to low rise as if that's the only alternative, but mid-rise (which are often actually quite high) sit at belly button level and don't flash your arse when you sit down.

justawoman · 24/05/2021 08:09

Not on me they don’t: mid rise hit well below my belly button. High rise hit on it or a bit above (where I’m naturally narrowest).

Cadburyflakeicecream · 24/05/2021 08:10

Mid rose don’t work for me as I’m an apple and that’s the fattest part of me. And they look terrible. So I need high rise.

Low rise don’t stay up.

Cadburyflakeicecream · 24/05/2021 08:10

Mid rise 😳

PoTheDog · 24/05/2021 08:28

Love them here too. I have a small waist so they highlight that, but also they sit comfortably there and don't fall down. I'm constantly hoiking low rise up

PurplePlain · 24/05/2021 08:29

Prefer mid-rise, but high-rise are fine, look great with a jumper. Absolutely hate low-rise, uncomfortable, make me feel insecure that I'm showing my knickers and make me feel fat even when I'm not.

isthismylifenow · 24/05/2021 08:33

I find them the most comfortable. I think its because I belong to the long body club. And they keep the muffin top in quite well. Low and mid rise are terrible for that.

EwwSprouts · 24/05/2021 08:36

High rise are so much better if you have a jelly belly like I do. Anything lower just gives the worst muffin top.

Sassybeaa · 24/05/2021 08:45

I love high waisted.
I remember when I was a teen and low rise were in!! Not good when you've got wide hips and are pear shaped Grin Also butt crack always hanging out when you bend down.

Bumzoo · 24/05/2021 08:49

I love them. So much comfier than low rise, they are the work of the devil.

TableNiner · 24/05/2021 08:54

Absolutely! I think this thread shows how different our bodies and requirements are…. For basics like jeans, it would be nice to have choice. I’m an Apple and sit down a lot Grin so maybe lower rise suit me more than most. I do like the look of higher waisted, they can be v flattering and make your legs look longer.

I’m usually fine with high or mid rise but I bought a pair of high rise recently that rose up to my bra strap when I sat down, they went back. Low rise would always slip down on me as I’m narrow of hip.

ThonsDesperate · 24/05/2021 09:27

I love high waisted jeans. My wads of blubber are happily contained and I feel more confident.

Although I was much slimmer and toned when low to mid rise jeans were all you could get, I never found a pair, not even one, that didn't slide down. I don't wear belts as I don't like the feel of them or the bulkiness or the faffiness (new word right thereGrin)

Floisme · 24/05/2021 09:27

They're not high waisted on me - that's where my waist actually is, so much more comfortable than low rise, which always feel like they're about to fall down.

Divebar2021 · 24/05/2021 09:29

I like a higher waist with a wide, cropped leg. That way the denim doesn’t hug my butt but loosely falls away. It also emphasises my smaller waist. You do need to be wearing a good bra though if you have big boobs. I think the comfort would be determined by the amount of stretch in the denim. Mid rise are a good alternative and I also have those in a boyfriend style. I can still remember when low rise were fashionable and the amount of arse crack and tops of thongs you’d be treated to in the average day.

Sooverthemill · 24/05/2021 09:35

Low rise fall down or I spend my life hoiking them up. I like a rise of at least 11.5 inches though have some 10 inches that are comfortable. It took me ages to work out why I didn't like wearing some of my jeans and it's because they feel like they are falling down.

TheBullfinch · 24/05/2021 09:41

Same here.

I have high hips and a high waist so on me, high waisted jeans just sit at my natural waistline.

Mid-rise jeans sit on my hip bones and give me a belly.

EmmaStone · 24/05/2021 10:29

Love high waisted, don't need to hoick up every so often, cover my belly, keep my tummy warm, and means no midriff exposure when I lift my arms. I'm another in the long body brigade, and keeping my midriff covered is harder than it should be. Mid rise sit right below my belly button, and irritate it when sitting down, didn't mind low rise when they were in fashion, but much prefer high waisted, especially now I'm no longer in my 20s!
