What to wear instead of a cardigan??

Is there an alternative to the cardi to keep warm and throw over spring/summer outfits? Don't want to look hopelessly dated. Looking forward to summer and wearing nice dresses and tops but very conscious that this is England and the weather is definitely not tropical, what do you wear instead of a cardigan? I have a nice leather jacket but that's too heavy wear all the time and not as comfy. Or is it a matter of finding the right style cardigan?

Ideas very welcome!

@Stumpedasatree and @hollieberrie

It’s H&M. Although I’ve seen similar on ASOS too.

Shackets are a thing atm. Horrible word but they can be nice.

miltonj · 26/05/2021 08:22

Cardigans are really in. Cropped, longline, or those small thin ones (not sure what they're called). There's are loads of styles. Just look on ASOS for inspiration

I love the cropped chunky cardigan. I've got them in black, a beautiful vibrant (how?) Brown, grey, a dust green and, randomly 2 reds one Berry and one tomato. I find the red ones hard to wear. They're beautiful but I wish I hadn't bought them. The others go with dresses so nicely.

Forest, not dust.

I've bought 2 cream chunky cardigans on eBay today. One cotton m&s current season, one wool Aran vintage.
I love cardigans.

I have a denim shirt that matches with nearly every outfit. If you want to be really on trend I think "shackets" are a thing you could wear instead of a cardigan.

I'm sorry, my face is increasingly grey jersey, but it shouldn't be.

At least it matches my fave grey jersey blazer.

I like a linen shirt or denim shirt best
Cardigans only work for me if they are very plain edge to edge type styles and not too short

A denim jacket,Ruth Langsfords from QVC is lightweight and flexible best one ever ive had. Also her cotton twill jackets great, ive the yellow and the fuschia, lovely jackets.

However chunky cardigans are fashionable now all the trendy shops sell them..

‘Shackets’ seem to be the thing now

sjonlegs · 03/06/2021 20:00

Love a denim or leather jacket ... if the weather's not too hot.

If it is I think one of the lightweight, floaty, kimono style jackets look rather stylish (think Kate Moss circa 2000).

What on earth is a shacket?

I got two of these (Ecru and Charm) from Seasalt. I wasn’t convinced about them at all looking at them on the website, but the reviews persuaded me to try them. In ‘the flesh’, they actually look really good and they’re very flattering on!

A Bolero perhaps? I have a pleated one, very light that I get lots of enquiries/compliments on.

StevieNix · 03/06/2021 20:45

A shacket?
Chunky oversized cardigan
Denim jacket

nopuppiesallowed · 03/06/2021 22:25

My denim jacket seems to look great with everything. But I also have a couple of wide cashmere pashminas which are years old but really useful. You can use them as scarves or artfully wound shawls. I have a cream one and a coral one. Love them.

PersonaNonGarter · 03/06/2021 22:33

Stick to cardigans, OP. Just keep it quite short - the long ones look mumsy.
