Which one? Clueless how to dress myself!

I ordered these online and love the flowery cami dress but I'm not sure whether the green dress suits me?

For info, I'm 36, size 10/12 on top and 14/16 on the bottom. I've got friends and colleagues that are in their early-mid 20s so on one hand I don't want to look old and unfashionable when we go out, but on the other hand I want to be comfortable and not look like I'm dressing too young. Help! Should I stick to my safe dress style or go for something different? I'm newly single and having a bit of a crisis of confidence!

Good point about being too hot daisy I am usually the first to complain about being hot and bothered. I'd forgotten that sleeves are usually a no no in summer for me.

I was worried about looking too old for my age so I think everyone who has said that has hit the nail on the head. I like the Boden suggestions, especially the green one and I've had a quick look at the website and seen some jumpsuits that look good.

Trouble is also that I have moved to live in a small northern ex mining town so the "look" on a night out is different from say somewhere more metropolitan. The lovely Boden dresses would look out of place and too formal. Trying to balance looking classy, but young, on a budget is my aim.

I think I'm best off going into shops to try on now that restrictions are lifted. I've put some weight on over lockdowns so it's the difference on size between my top and bottom half that makes it hard to dress well.

Op you’ve really lovely legs. But the second dress makes you look the same size all the way down and much bigger from the waist down than you are.

I agree with the posters who said I’d have thought that was a rather mummy woman in her mid to late fifties. However I’m fifty two and I’d not wear it.

5128gap · 18/05/2021 21:04

The second one is not suitable for a night out OP. Your town sounds a bit like mine, and you would stand out a mile amongst all the jeans and nice tops and short dresses.
The first one is more suitable, but still very safe.
At 36 I think you need to be more worried about dressing too old than too young.
No doubt this will be a controversial view on here, but for a night out in your type of town I'd look to the more demure offerings on places like pretty little thing and boo hoo for inspiration.

Have you checked Monki? They've got great short dresses that you can dress up for a night out www.monki.com/en_gbp/clothing/dresses/mini-dresses/product.mini-cotton-trapeze-dress-black.0934038001.html

@Rattysparklebum

Not being able to see your face, the first green dress makes me think you are in your 20’s to early 30’s, the flowery dress makes me think you are in your 50’s, it looks quite frumpy
Glad I'm not the only one who prefers the first one by a mile.
Violinist64 · 18/05/2021 22:15

I prefer the flowery dress. It flatters your figure much more than the green one. The length is better as it makes you look taller and slimmer. The neckline gives more definition to your waist, too, which is your best feature. The green dress is too short on you and cuts you in half.

EllaPaella · 18/05/2021 22:19

The black and green floral dress that Bluntness posted is lovely and would really suit you OP

Lan2020 · 18/05/2021 22:41

Imkuch prefer the flowery cami dress. It shows off your figure better.

It won’t suit OPs colouring even if it suits her clothing personality.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions everyone, I do really like the first link from bluntness and I've got a few new ideas and websites to look at. I definitely need to stick to a younger look and I think going for shorter dresses will help that. Might swap the flowery dress for either the black or animal print version as the shape fits me well.

The reason I went for green op is with auburn copper hair and pale skin it should be a great colour on you.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/05/2021 10:36

Contrary to the majority i much prefer the green dress.
Its got more character. Plus there's probably some bias in there as it my favorite colour. You've got a great figure and it really shows it off.
I don't get the hype about the flowery dress. It just hangs on you and looks do I dare say grumpy. Ithink you're one of those people who just doesn't suit floral patterns.

HelloOldSport · 19/05/2021 10:51

@Bluntness100

I think the flowery one is really unflattering on you. To be fair I don’t think either are doing you any favours but the shade is green is beautiful

The cami flowery one is aging and unflattering.

Yes to this.

Sorry OP, but I don't think either flatter you.

VictoriaLudorum · 19/05/2021 10:55

I prefer the second dress, which would look great under a jacket (even denim).
The first one is too short for your figure, in my opinion.

JanuaryJonez · 19/05/2021 11:30

Definitely the flowery one for me - it looks way more expensive than the green one.

Daisy829 · 19/05/2021 12:26

Have you had a look at blue vanilla? I like this styled with the black boots. A wrap style would be quite flattering I think as your top & bottom are different sizes.

This is nice too

I shouldn’t have looked. I can feel an order coming on! They often have discount codes too if you do a Google.

lindyloo57 · 19/05/2021 15:28

Daisy the blue vanilla dresses are lovely

Daisy829 · 19/05/2021 17:06

The quality of the clothes is decent. I’ve had a few bits from there. The clearance section is worth keeping an eye on too.

Disfordarkchocolate · 19/05/2021 17:08

I much prefer the green one, to me the second dress is very middle aged. I'd change the white belt though.

Daisy829 · 19/05/2021 17:09

Blue vanilla 20% off using New20. I’ve just ordered the gold dress.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/05/2021 17:16

I don’t think either do you any favours. The second dresses neckline is a bit 1980’s M&S.
