What happened to S&B?

I used to browse this topic regularly several years ago and I enjoyed the recommendations of Ash high tops, Net A Porter sale items and high end make up, amongst other things. Loved reading what LetThemEatCake had been buying.
I've been having migrating over to here again recently after a long time away and it's all Roman Originals, granny sandals and things that "wash well".
WTF happened?

I like this one on Summer dressing - though I'd say the earlier period, when her articles were in the Style column, was the best. There was something spontaneous and almost ... subversive about those pieces

With the disclaimer that I’m an emotional wreck at the moment, living on my nerves and hanging on by my fingertips, that Susie Boyt article made me cry a bit. Such a wonderful thought, building yourself up from the outside (particularly apposite for me atm when the inside is a wreck). Loved it. Really enjoying this thread after its rocky start.

I had almost forgotten this thread, until I needed a venue for venting ... WTF happened?, the OP asks - I'll tell you; people on MN decided - again - that nothing more expensive than Hobbs-in-the-sale may be mentioned or linked. And style may only consist of skinny jeans and a nice top. Or a nice lyocell dress that 'shows off your figure'.

Farkin'ell. Hmm After being torn apart elsewhere here, for daring to suggest a brand other people didn't like, I may change my mind and vote for style segregation.Grin

@MayIDestroyYou 😂 I agree. I want to see expensive stuff even if I can't afford it because then I know what's on trend. I was looking at a thread yesterday and some of the suggestions for where to buy summer dresses were mind blowing I tell you - Lands End anyone? 🤯
Floisme · 11/06/2021 08:21

Well I need to know which thread now. I'm feeling a touch cantankerous this morning but not ragey enough for AIBU so it might be just what I need Grin

Hmm

Though it's not as bad as when I recommended Avavav (based on their very different stock last year) and Fat Face aficionados were confronted with Footwear as Art. GrinGrinGrin

Floisme · 11/06/2021 13:27

Ouff..... all the espresso in the world wouldn't get me to post on that thread. But to be fair, it's in AIBU not S&B!

I know what you mean. I was reading a wedding guest dress thread this morning and the OP was linking £250 dresses. Someone comes along and recommends Silk Fred which are not remotely in the same league.

If I had a £250 budget for a dress (I don't) I would want recommendations for something similar in that region.

Lykia · 13/06/2021 14:52

I recently found out there is a Clothes and Shoes thread under Products and some poster should post there. I.e where can I buy a good quality white tee shirt up to £10 that sort of thing.

I think MN should promote that thread more so posters wanting to know which colour Ecco sandals they prefer can post there without people jumping in and telling them their sandals are fugly etc.

Iggi999 · 13/06/2021 14:54

Wow you're a character aren't you.
Maybe they should rename the section as "clothes and skin products".

Oh dear! GrinGrin I think posters often recommend what they would wear/buy and don't take into consideration the OP who is asking for advice.

I do sometimes wonder if people are having a wind up
