I have been in a vicious circle for 20+ years of growing and then having my natural wavy/curly hair cut into an inverted Bob.
The minute I have it cut into a Bob I hate it because I am fat of face and I look crap.
I wonder if I should dye it but on the other hand I think white roots are ageing.
I'm at that place again where it's shoulder length and looking rubbish . Today I used Philip Kingsley Elastulizer and it still looks dry/frizzy/lifeless.

Do I dye it / cut it ? I really don't know what to do (I am mid 50's)

@daisyjgrey

I'm wildly jealous of the colour, don't dye it!

If you can afford one bottle of Olaplex, go for one fo the treatments, you'll notice a huge difference. Mine is the same wave/texture as yours and Olaplex has really sorted my curl pattern out.

Which Olaplex number did you use?

You don't need loads of money for curly girl , I use head ANS shoulders ( I know it's not cg) and a £5 curl cream . This is my hair .

Oh my god, your hair is gorgeous - that colour!

SuchHunger · 15/05/2021 11:14

Your hair would look even more amazing with CG method. It's a pain in the early weeks as the hair is adjusting but it will be completely worth it. I've used Cantu shampoo and conditioner in the past with Boots curl creme (but I think they may have discontinued it).

@unwuthering

That's mad advice! A total 'no' to putting hand or body lotion on your hair 😮 The OP will end up with greasy roots & still dry ends.

I said "clap bits of the ends with it". Just the ends.

It's a technique my hairdresser showed me. I use hair cream, but the OP isn't wanting to buy more stuff that may or may not work; and if you're on a budget, hand cream does the trick also I have found. We're talking about a pea-sized bit of product.

I do this with body lotion and its works really well on my similar textured hair.

Colour is fantastic

Few more layers. Leave to dry naturally or use a defuser. Put mousse on when wet then more mousse scrunched in when dry

I have curly hair.

Slub · 15/05/2021 14:04

Thank you all so much for your comments and advice - I really wasn't expecting so many positive ones because I'd convinced myself my hair needed something drasticbut not another Bob!
So this morning I've washed/conditioned and put on serum and heat defence spray.
Dug out my Babyliss Big Hair that hasn't seen light of day for at least two years and had forgotten what an instrument of bloody torture it is!

Will definitely also look more into the curly girl method Smile

It looks great but I think it has potential to be super amazingly curly ! Give it a try!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 15/05/2021 14:46

Yes definitely try curly girl, it looks as if it would really benefit from that approach as it looks coarse when straightened. Embrace your waves or curls

LittlePearl · 15/05/2021 16:13

Slub, your hair looks so much like mine! I'm late 50s.

I let it grow during lockdown and started the curly girl method. It's grey too, but yours is a nicer colour.

I asked my daughter for a brutally honest opinion as didn't know what to do with it. She said it is way better longer and curly / wavy than short and blow dried / straightened (for me, anyway) but that I should get the hairdresser to improve the shape so it looks styled and more 'groomed.'

I got it cut last week and it's a bit shorter at the back than the front so slightly inverted, and he did some long layers which have given my curls more bounce. I'm really pleased with it.

So glad people have been complimentary about yours given how similar mine is! I toyed with the idea of posting a photo but didn't have the courage (and don't know how to scribble out my face Blush)

Good luck trying CGM......it took a while to get used to but I think I've finally cracked what works for my hair.

Selkie1961 · 15/05/2021 16:16

Bit of shaping at the end, that's all it needs

IWishIWasABaller · 15/05/2021 16:19

You have such beautiful hair op please don't dye it ! Love it curly/ wavy like in your first set of pics

Soontobe60 · 15/05/2021 16:23

My hair is very much like yours. I find that if I just leave it it doesn’t look great - too frizzy. I use a hot brush to style it, and it looks much more polished.

KidneyBeans · 15/05/2021 18:20

It looks nice blow dried but would be much lovelier with the curls,

If cash is an issue @Slub then try the garnier banana shampoo or the cocoa butter one https://www.garnier.co.uk/our-brands/hair-care/ultimate-blends/coconut-oil-for-frizzy-hair/conditioner
Both are silicone free I think

Or honestly just give your hair a really good scalp massage (no shampoo) then banana conditioning , you really need to add moisture so conditioner is your friend. Then scrunch dry with a curl cream/oil like

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cantu-Butter-Natural-Moisturizing-Activator/dp/B009AZ3WH4/ref=sxtssxwds-bia-wc-fixed110?cvcttcx=cantu+curl+activating+cream&dchild=1&keywords=cantu+curl+activating+cream&pdrddi=B009AZ3WH4&pdrddr=e2b55f5e-d994-4309-bebe-02ae6f5975f7&pdrddw=wYLse&pdrddwg=5DV6C&pfrddp=9413179e-f647-42ee-ad78-428ecb70d9d9&pfrddr=JN14WJ4XAZEE7GK4RF5X&psc=1&qid=1621099150&sprefix=cantu+curl&sr=1-1-98c7976f-8e9e-4f16-ad73-f34a4cfe5eb2

The CGM isn't expensive or complicated and would she a massive difference to your hair

Watchingthetelly · 15/05/2021 20:40

So I was one of the first to post and said why don’t you blow dry, but I couldn’t see the pictures, was just going by your description. You have proper curls rather than waves, and also a lovely colour. I would agree with doing CG. A friend of mine has done it and her hair is like a beautiful mane.
