Bra straps showing with off shoulder top ?

Dailydingo · 14/05/2021 11:46

does it matter ? FWIW my bra straps will be thin black ones and my bras are not the huge type with thick straps. Going on a date and wondered if showing the straps like this looks tacky ?

Is it the kind of top that casually falls off one shoulder, or a proper strapless top with no sleeves or anything?

Elouera · 14/05/2021 11:48

Yes- showing any bra strap thick or thin is tacky!

Why not wear a strapless one? Or if its only 1 shoulder showing, get a convertible bra where you can move the straps around the suit.

FizzyPink · 14/05/2021 11:49

I think it’s really tacky I’m afraid. I hate seeing people’s bra straps with vest tops in the summer. Just wear a strapless bra

Twinkie01 · 14/05/2021 11:49

Yes it awful. Get a strapless bra.

NoFashion · 14/05/2021 11:50

Yup it's awful.

And that's from someone who had F cup boobs and can't make them look good strapless.

So I have just had to accept that sleeveless tops aren't for me.

Checkingout811 · 14/05/2021 11:52

Sleeveless bra. It is very tacky sorry.

BikeRunSki · 14/05/2021 11:52

If you only need thin straps, you can definitely get away with a strapless bra. Bra straps on show are tacky.

Dailydingo · 14/05/2021 11:52

The top is slightly off the centre of the shoulders, but not completely off my shoulders altogether.

Can you post a pic?

MeadowLines · 14/05/2021 11:55

I dont think its tacky! Its no different to a vest top strap, esp if its a slim strap.

muchtoocold · 14/05/2021 11:56

I don't understand where people find the energy to even think about this. It really doesn't matter, if you feel good and comfortable in an outfit wear it, if you don't, don't. I wouldn't even give other people's opinion head space. Have a fab time!

Cactuslockdown · 14/05/2021 11:57

All the calls for strapless bras... ah, if only Blush

ifyougetthechancedoit · 14/05/2021 11:58

It sounds like it will be absolutely fine. In fact, I think it will probably look quite nice. I'm quite Hmm about some of these comments.

I've just been reading Leopard is a Neutral which is written by a middle aged, stereotypically middle class fashion editor. She swears by having colourful bras especially for this purpose and she definitely doesn't look tacky!!!

MeadowLines · 14/05/2021 12:00

@Cactuslockdown exactly! And I find them bloody uncomfortable - why should I go through pain and discomfort because some people cant bear to see a small bit of a bra strap!!

StarlightLady · 14/05/2021 12:08

Strapless bras don’t work for me. If you have a greying bra that should be white or a so called “nude” bra that resembles cardboard, l think it looks awful.

But a pretty bra that is almost too good to hide is fine in my view. If it shows, all it means is that you have a bra on. I have a turquoise one with red flowers on it, that people admire because they think it is part of the top.

And avoid those so called invisible (huh!) clear plastic straps that glisten in the sunlight.

EL8888 · 14/05/2021 12:12

It depends on the bra and the top. Strapless bras are great in principle. In reality they feel horrendous, don’t get me started on the fit. As a 34DD they don’t give much support and often end up round what feels like my waist

StarlightLady · 14/05/2021 12:12

@ifyougetthechancedoit and @MeadowLines - Are you both me? I think l love you! 🌷

KatharinaRosalie · 14/05/2021 12:20

off shoulder tops look great when they are worn as intended. Straps just ruin the look. There are plenty of very supportive strapless bras around - I'm an ff/G cup and the Wonderbra one works very well.

queenatom · 14/05/2021 12:48

I think if you're going to do this, the key is making it look deliberate - nice bra with straps that work well with the colour/style of top you're wearing and you can probably get away with it provided the venue isn't particularly formal.

Strapless bras are a great idea in theory but I'm a HH cup so no chance of getting one that works. Even when I was younger and (relatively) smaller of chest, I found the bra would just slip down every time I moved and I'd spend the whole evening hoicking it up, which looks a damn sight tackier than a bra strap on show...

SummaLuvin · 14/05/2021 15:02

I don't think it's tacky (horrible word used to demean women BTW), but I don't think it looks very nice. Similar to a VPL, it just takes an outfit down a couple of notches.

If you are small chested then consider going bra free and wearing nipple covers.

You clearly don't have 34J boobs 🤣

QueenPaw · 14/05/2021 15:16

I do it, because strapless bras don't exist in my size. Can't wear halter necks, strapless or backless tops already!

Frankiegoes · 14/05/2021 15:46

I’ve got a couple of off the shoulder tops that just go off one shoulder. I love them but feel a bit bare with it totally off my shoulder, so wear a black thin strapped vest top underneath which changes the look. I think looks fine, and looks very similar to a plain black bra strap.

goose1964 · 14/05/2021 20:09

It's commonplace here to let your straps show.

ViciousJackdaw · 14/05/2021 23:51

Have you got any clothes tape? If so, would taping the top to your bra straps work? Obvs you'd need to arrange the straps into an appropriate position but it can work.
