Do you have short hair and wear earrings?

If so, what styles?

I've worn my hair in a crop for years but fairly recently got it done edgier and shorter. I'm now trying to figure out what, if any, earrings go with it. I've been experimenting with hoops and I think I've figured out that I need to go big or go home. I see lots of women in the media wearing cool earrings with very short or no hair, but some of them don't quite seem to work on me.

I have cropped hair and like big earrings. I get a lot of earrings from Etsy. These skulls are from Dark Edge Jewellery on there. You can also get lovely polymer clay earrings too.

wow, thank you for the compliments, I'm a little flustered now. My lipstick is MAC Lady Danger.

I tend to agree that the hoops probably worked best for me. I was just wearing a plain white shirt and jeans today so I felt I could get away with a bit of drama up top.

@NeedToKnow101 I actually have a slightly bigger pair of Bowie lightning flashes from Toolally - I haven't tried them with this hair but I might! I will probably also look for a few new pairs of studs and maybe small huggies to layer up my ear.

Would also love to see any other short hair & earrings looks people are working.

Love the zips, Show! Where are they from?

bunglebee · 12/05/2021 20:06

Ohhh, I see the Bowie threaders! Those are cool. I've not worn that style of earring before, but I think it might be time to try!

Ooh @scrollingleaves I love that - it's exactly what I'm trying to say! Recreating length or volume with earrings looks (in my view) naff. I prefer crawlers or suspenders that make a feature of the ear and decorate what's on display.

Me too. I think crawlers and/or a combination of studs and cartilage piercings look more elegant with short hair somehow. They kind of lift your face and flatter your cheekbones and jawline as they draw the eye upwards rather than downwards.

bunglebee · 12/05/2021 22:18

I think I definitely need some star crawlers. Will take another pic when they arrive.

P.s. @ScrollingLeaves how do you do "big" without "long"? I think you have a point (which is why I started this thread in the first place) but I can't quite figure out how you could do a big earring without it also being long. Or are you meaning something like my large hoops, as they are round?

SelkieBe · 12/05/2021 22:47

I know what you mean, my hair has grown long now but I think short hair needs a proper introduce me pair of earrings.

The big hoops are gorgeous on you.

TaraR2020 · 13/05/2021 00:30

Op, agree with pp, you look amazing!

Great taste in jewellery, not come across toolally before - any other recommendations please? (Unapologetic thread derail!)

Perhaps “big” as in bigger than studs, so a larger shape without dangling down.

Or big from quality or statement. Are there any modern art styles? Or bold use of precious stones?

But mixing your bold haircut with something exquisite, small, and delicate would give a fetching frisson too!

Having. seen your photos, however, I think you look lovely with what you modelled as well.

Kin at John Lewis do some similar perspex-y ones. I also like the jewellery at Cos and &OtherStories. Wolf & Badger is also great for jewellery and Wolf and Moon might be interesting if you like the Toolally styles. Plus Etsy of course.

And thank you all for the compliments, really, I didn't expect them. I was trying to figure out why an earring can look so different with a cropped haircut than it does on someone with long hair and an updo, even though, per ScrollingMoon's point, there shouldn't be a massive difference in how it looks from a visual/lines POV.

I definitely need to get into crawlers, and maybe I'll even see if I can reactivate some of the old holes in my ears and get some tiny hoops. I used to wear a very small silver hoop at the top of both ears and really liked it, but I had to take it out in my 20s when I worked a job with a uniform. I work at a corporate, but it's a relatively laid-back/media and tech type one so I know how much I can push it.

@bunglebee

You look amazing and those hoops are fab!!!

I buy from Orelia
www.orelia.co.uk

They have some nice bits

bunglebee · 13/05/2021 07:08

The hoops in the first pic cost me £2 at H&M, just in case anyone's looking :) I didn't want to spend a lot while I was messing around with sizes and styles. They're cheap AF and bendy but light! And I seem to be finally out of the stage where toddlers pull your earrings.

Great thread - have joined to follow, thanks OP! Another fan here of your hair, skin, lippy, hoops - you look fantastic!

MindBodyChocolate · 13/05/2021 07:41

I agree with the general approach of going big. Personally I prefer the hoops to the acrylic ones as the acrylic colours along with your hair style and colour looks a bit too much to me. Completely personal choice though and I am nit picking because you look fab!

bunglebee · 13/05/2021 10:28

I have Glossier Futuredew on my skin today if anyone really wants me to post a pic of that. I'll stick some studs in for variety!

Looks lovely, is it a sheer coverage?

Cocolapew · 13/05/2021 11:27

This is what I usually wear I can't wear bigger earrings in work. Atm I only have one hoop in the other ear.

Buggerthebotox · 13/05/2021 11:32

Your hair and look are fabulous. You can get away with anything (I'm not too keen on hoops myself, but that's just me).

I've got short hair and wear anything apart from hoops and very long danglies. Never heard of earclimbers before now though.
