Do you have short hair and wear earrings?

If so, what styles?

I've worn my hair in a crop for years but fairly recently got it done edgier and shorter. I'm now trying to figure out what, if any, earrings go with it. I've been experimenting with hoops and I think I've figured out that I need to go big or go home. I see lots of women in the media wearing cool earrings with very short or no hair, but some of them don't quite seem to work on me.

I don't wear big earrings but wear a few. I was wearing silver hoops and have very small hoops up my ear that I never take out. I lost one of my bigger ones 😔 and have been wearing huggy ones from The Perfect Stud atm.

Puppylucky · 12/05/2021 12:40

I have always had short hair and used to wear massive earrings back in the day - Butler and Wilson were a fave haunt. I then switched to studs /nothing for years but have rediscovered earrings in the past year or so. Sadly I think I'm too old for the oversized look now as I can't get images of Pat Butcher out of my head so I add the drama with ear crawlers and suspender earrings which add interest without scale Grin

Hey, don't knock Pat Butcher!

Thanks for the direction to The Perfect Stud. I like some of the huggies and studs on there.

Adding my admiration for the OP's skin! Being a lot older, I find now that earrings need to work with my glasses. Too large or too bright or very statement-y ends up looking a bit busy on me. Haircut tomorrow.... yippee!

No no no - not at all Pat. This looks really great. The colour, and sharp angles, it's all fab. I think acrylic and resin go with your look better than metal.

Sorry to bring it back to makeup, but what's the difference between CT wonder glow and Glossier future dew? Are they both BB cream type things? I never wear foundation but have occasionally used tinted moisturiser and am happy to do so again if my skin can look like yours!

Thank you OP. I'm 35 and my skin isn't bad, but I'm prone to oiliness. Do you think future dew would work for me? Thanks again and sorry for derail Blush

bunglebee · 12/05/2021 14:44

They're both sort of BB cream type products, I guess? I don't have the patience for any kind of real base and find it claggy. CB Wonder Glow is more slightly glittery, G Futuredew is described as an "oil/serum hybrid" that's sort of flesh toned and iridescent, it feels a bit greasy to begin with but makes you look quite dewy.

I'm late 30s for reference. i do appreciate the comments on my skin, although now I sort of feel like I'm selling beauty products under false pretenses.

Love them, they are amazing.

bunglebee · 12/05/2021 14:59

Oh bloody hell, stupid connection duplicating posts.

My skin tends to oily and Futuredew makes it look glowy and doesn't irritate it. It just feels a bit weird going on to begin with, I'd never put something of that texture on my skin before. I bought it based on MN recommendation.

I’m so glad those toolally earrings have passed the Pat Butcher test. I was quite anxious there for a bit as they are my favourite ones. I’m bald so if I’m not wearing hair I wear big earring and red lipstick. I tone both down a bit on my hair days. Adding to the ‘you’re gorgeous’ response as well, OP.

Confusedandshaken · 12/05/2021 17:42

I had a crop for years and only ever wore diamond studs. To me bigger earrings with very short hair felt a bit like a statement necklace or casually draped scarf, a sort of middle aged woman trying too hard look (I am a middle aged woman who wants to look effortlessly chic yet casual, not try hard).

Over the last 4 years I've grown my hair out to just below the shoulder layers and since then I've got a bit more adventurous with hoop earrings.

For you I think your hair and lipstick are the cornerstones of your look and look very stylish. Teamed with your great skin I don't think you need much more so IMO the earrings in the picture are overkill. Something that doesn't distract from those feature would be more flattering - but then I'm much older than you so it could be a generation thing.

SuperMonkeys · 12/05/2021 18:29

I prefer the hoops on you. I have had v short hair for years and for a long time struggled with anything other than a very simple bar. However I have recently rediscovered big hoops too!

Clydesider · 12/05/2021 18:34

I grew my hair 3 or so years ago, but prior to that I always had short hair. I found that big earrings really elevated my look and I especially loved long, dangly earrings. I reckon you could absolutely wear edgy & colourful perspex!

ScrollingLeaves · 12/05/2021 18:49

“I think I've figured out that I need to go big or go home“

People may well disagree but I don’t like it when people get a really short haircut then recreate “ length” with long earrings.

I think they could be big, but they should not be long.

EarringsandLipstick · 12/05/2021 19:19

I just had to add to the compliments about your skin & lipstick. Absolutely fab. You look so cool!

The lipstick is a gorgeous colour. What is it?

EarringsandLipstick · 12/05/2021 19:20

Ps I prefer the hoops which look amazing on you.

ScrollingLeaves · 12/05/2021 19:26

Sorry, I hadn’t seen the photos before.

Your haircut is very edgy. You look so full of character you could wear anything.

Normally I would agree with the other poster who mentioned the understatement of studs which would also suit you.

You have drama in your face and you need little more.

NeedToKnow101 · 12/05/2021 19:35

I agree your skin is amazing!!!

How about something from here.. www.louisewade.com/collections/earrings
or these.. www.louisewade.com/collections/earrings/products/bowie-flash-threaders or similar?

When I had short hair in my younger days I always wore odd earrings
I had some small neat plain gold hoops and used to hang things from them eg charms, big bits of glass, costume jewellery brooches
My DC used to love the animal themed ones
My favourite was a windmill with revolving sails
Now I’m very boring and stick to diamond studs most of the time
