I know the answer really, Its too young for me but it would hide all the bits I don't like Smile top of arms, tummy. I'm 60.

Isn't it pretty though?

Is it this one from Needle and Thread? Sorry, I'm reluctant to click on your link!

I think some people will say it's a bit bridal maybe? I personally think it's probably fine, as it's short.

However, I wouldn't pay £300+ for a 100% polyester dress personally, but I'm funny about polyester in general.

It is pretty and very romantic, but I think it might be one of those dresses which looks better on only some people, so if you go for it, make sure you try on and show to a brutally honest friend.

Wildswimming3 · 12/05/2021 08:59

Yes sorry couldn't get my link to work. It is too expensive and I've actually got a similar French connection dress but more floatiy and no embroidery. I'll try and post a picture

It is very beautiful but it’s a cross between a wedding dress and a child’s party dress.

Wildswimming3 · 12/05/2021 09:03

The colour is deeper in rl, Its blush pink and it looks better on then off!

Ah so you aren't buying it new, just wearing the one you already have?

I love your one and think it's nicer than the N&T one tbh. Yeah, I'd wear it. At 60, you are unlikely to get mistaken for the bride I'm guessing, (hope that isn't offensive at all), and with the right accessories, I think that will look great Smile

Wildswimming3 · 12/05/2021 09:08

Not offended lol needs nice shoes and hair up I think

ShirleyPhallus · 12/05/2021 09:09

The material looks really thin, it looks like a nightie tbh. I don’t think that’s suitable for a wedding really. Have you got a picture of it on?

MayIDestroyYou · 12/05/2021 09:11

It's far too bridal and you could find something with much more 'presence'.

Since I've already contributed to 967 wedding guest threads this year I'll just say this:

If you have less than £500 to spend, go straight to the Matches sale pages. They have umpteen suitable frocks, some massively reduced in price.

(And no, I don't work for them, or have any connection at all to them. I just need to spend less of my time on other people's wardrobes and more on my terrifyingly accumulating deadlines.)

MayIDestroyYou · 12/05/2021 09:12

(Sorry, was talking about the first dress. The second is a bit droopy and lacking in ooomph, at least to my eyes.)

Malin52 · 12/05/2021 09:15

Oh god. Sorry that's a big no from me. Maybe because it's just not my style and I would look like an escapee from sheltered accommodation but maybe a rake thin tall thing in her 20s would look amazing. Yes also needs the right shoes and hair but it's a bit 'nightie' and little girly.

I'm more of a 'classic and elegant' for a wedding. I've repurposed many a work dress or skirt with the right accessories and felt just right.

Wildswimming3 · 12/05/2021 09:15

Sadly this isn't me, it has another layer so it's not too flimsy

GrinGrin I've gone right off it now.

@MayIDestroyYou Matches is brilliant, how about this? www.matchesfashion.com/products/Marine-Serre-Scuba-suit-%26-bedsheet-ruffled-gown-1273194

Palavah · 12/05/2021 09:19

It might look great on but judging it on the hanger I'm afraid I think it would look like a doll's dress or a nightie, sorry.

For £300 you could do MUCH better.

Jumpingintosummer · 12/05/2021 09:23

That’s one for the charity bag I’m afraid. Do you have a budget for something new? What’s your colouring, shape etc.

Bet we can find something to make you feel great.

ThatIsMyPotato · 12/05/2021 09:23

Looks like an old nightie

Palavah · 12/05/2021 09:24

@Wildswimming3 tell us about your shape and colouring and what kind of wedding it is.

I think there's lots of eagerness for wedding guests on S&B and people come up with great ideas.

I like it, but if you are tall, it might be a wee bit short maybe? If you are more petite, I think that would look great. Maybe navy accessories? Or maybe something like leopard print to toughen it up a bit?
Malin52 · 12/05/2021 09:27

The model is rake thin and young and looks terrible in it. It reminds me of those flammable baby doll nighties from the 1970s.

I'd suggest you move on. I'm being honest OP. I went in something similar to this to my last wedding. Pink/beige accessories. I'm size 16. Got many compliments and felt elegant and comfortable

isthismylifenow · 12/05/2021 09:29

If you can pull that dress off, I would go ahead and wear it OP. I wish I could (I am early 50's), but I know it would look like a sack on me.

Malin52 · 12/05/2021 09:29

Also it's too short. One gust or a dropped canapé and it's game over.

MayIDestroyYou · 12/05/2021 09:30

Unhelpful, ShirleyPhallus ...

Though, tbh, the second dress is so bad I almost suspect the OP of 'avin' a larf at our expense ...

LuckyMcDucky · 12/05/2021 09:31

That's gorgeous Malin.

I think op's dress could look lovely with the right accessories*. Maybe a belt, some sort of cover-up etc. But could she do better if she felt inclined to throw more money at it? Probably, yes. But maybe if we saw it on you op? Although I accept you may not want to out yourself.

*Obviously if you have to spend money on the perfect accessories, you may as well have bought a new dress though 🤔

I think she must own it as she has a pic of it hanging off her wardrobe! Would be extremely weird to go to this much trouble or larfs.
