Tights without knickers?

Girlonthego · 11/05/2021 23:20

Came onto MN this eve looking for recommendations for maternity tights and couldn't help getting completely sidetracked by a thread that casually mentions the concept of wearing (nude) tights without knickers. Theory makes sense in that the tights will cling to your body better than fabric-on-fabric and will therefore not ride down but is the gusset really enough for the bits? And is there completely paranoia if it's even a slightly windy day? 🙈
(Though the idea sounds liberating 😂)

Aye right you did.

Purplewithred · 11/05/2021 23:26

I rarely wear tights but always try to get ones with a cotton gusset so I can wear them without knickers for a smoother line. (Every little helps). But I only wear thick black tights so I am not in fear of a gust of wind Revealing my All

Don't engage...
DramaAlpaca · 11/05/2021 23:29

Nope, not engaging with this one.

Girlonthego · 11/05/2021 23:33

Um pardon? If you don't engage with a post then why reply? Confused

Thank you @Purplewithred

Welcome, new poster Girlonthego!

DramaAlpaca · 11/05/2021 23:42

Maybe we are warning other posters that starting such a post at this time of night might just be a teeny bit suspicious? If you've been on here any length of time you'd be aware that it's witching hour for trolls who like talk of knickers.

Apologies of course if you're genuine Smile

Fauvist · 11/05/2021 23:42

Girl ffs. Really?

Girlonthego · 11/05/2021 23:58

I can see that by asking a question like this at this hour is suspicious but honestly, I'm just a frumpy nearly 40yo and I'm on MN at this time of night because I work all day then have to be a wife and mother when I get home and there's nothing on telly and I can't be bothered to trudge upstairs to bes so I thought I'd have a look into maternity tights, which then lead to a thread about nude tights being unfashionable(!) and it turned into this! I'm really a very boring person (and woman!!). Honest!

Oh well never mind. It was just an honest question as I'd never even contemplated the idea myself as I thought it would be a bit eww but was genuinely curious. I'll try to be a bit more thoughtful about what time I post next time!

Hi Girlonthego,
Sorry about your thread being hidden, we're all understandably a bit twitchy about late night knicker discussion. Sad indictment of the times we're living in, really. We're re-opening your thread because we can see that you have been with us a fair old time and we wish you good luck with your maternity tight search.

Girlonthego · 12/05/2021 07:38

@HopeMumsnet thank you but to be honest I was relieved to see it deleted when I came on this morning bracing myself for more accusation. Could you please delete it again? Ta.

@Girlonthego people will engage now tHat MNHQ have Said they Know who you are!

I've just started wearing tights like this- it feels a bit weird to be honest, but definitely better than the smothered in layers feeling tights usually have!

Girlonthego · 12/05/2021 08:13

Thank you @picklemewalnuts :)

My whole issue with maternity tights in the past has been that they fall down, so the idea of having them stay put a bit better is a good one! Though I really don't want to be in a situation where the problem isn't solved and I have nothing else there as backup! 😂

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 12/05/2021 08:20

That does sound a bit risky... wear around the house for a trial day!

I wear snags so they tend to stay put anyway. I imagine they'd be good for maternity, though i havent tried.

Miseryisabutterfly · 12/05/2021 13:09

Ew. It all sounds very synthetic. It reminds me of the description of a man wearing a cheap polyester suit and smelling like scotch eggs.

goose1964 · 12/05/2021 15:51

forget the tights and keep the knickers

Mermaidwaves · 13/05/2021 14:07

Yes without sounding gross, might there be an odour? TMI but I find that even with knickers tights don't smell too fragrant at the end of the day, I'm paranoid other people can detect it.

fairynick · 13/05/2021 14:14

Sounds like thrush waiting to happen! Grin

Chihuahuacat · 13/05/2021 14:16

I have no experience but just want to back up I’ve seen the threads you are talking about and I was also shocked at the concept! Quite a few people said it and I started to wonder if no knickers with tights was the norm....

EyeDrops · 13/05/2021 14:19

I was shocked by that thread too (and a bit depressed as I'm only 33 and have been wearing nude tights happily and confidently since my teens believing that my legs look better in them??!)

It just sounds so uncomfortable! I do highly recommend snag tights, but I don't know if they do maternity ones. Otherwise I found M&S maternity tights great!

Cailleach1 · 13/05/2021 18:43

It cannot be hygienic. As a poster said 'thrush'.

StarlightLady · 14/05/2021 10:53

I usually wear the Autograph seam free which have a “proper” sized cotton guset and without the double layering caused by knickers they adhere to the body so much better; no slippage. I would have thought thrush was more likely with the extra layers. I’m not up to speed with maternity tights though.

Obviously, if theee was no gusset, maybe an emergency purchase, that would be a different scenario.

StarlightLady · 14/05/2021 11:28

Theee = there. Why do l never notice typos until l press “post”?

Dogsandbabies · 14/05/2021 20:54

I am almost 30 weeks OP. I got snags a size bigger that my usual size and they have been a revelation. I love them, they stay up and they are super comfortable.
