Tights without knickers?

Came onto MN this eve looking for recommendations for maternity tights and couldn't help getting completely sidetracked by a thread that casually mentions the concept of wearing (nude) tights without knickers. Theory makes sense in that the tights will cling to your body better than fabric-on-fabric and will therefore not ride down but is the gusset really enough for the bits? And is there completely paranoia if it's even a slightly windy day? 🙈
(Though the idea sounds liberating 😂)

2 pairs of knickers, one under, one over.

Nooooo.

I did this once on the recommendation that it clings better and was paranoid all night, especially when walking up one of those corkscrew open staircases.

Would never again.

It's not even the worry of the dress blowing up for me - it just sounds so uncomfortable! Tights are scratchy at the best of times, but on your bits... 🤢

StarlightLady · 15/05/2021 00:01

To those worrying about what is on view, do you think you think if you are wearing knickers, you go about flashing them all day? That would worry me more.

The gusset shields you and lack of colour change makes it less obvious anyway.

Don’t knock it until you have tried it.

Susannahmoody · 15/05/2021 02:58

Reckon you'd get fanjo rot, personally.

StarlightLady · 15/05/2021 07:54

I’m early 40s and I’ve been doing this for years and never had any trouble.

Maybe some of the images depicted on the packets give a clue? And tights are not aimed at the male market before anyone gives that as a reason.

I think the key issue here is the difference between a cheap supermarket pair of tights and a good quality pair.

With the more expensive ones the cotton gusset is more than adequate and goes right through the knit in that area. It is not simply sewn in.

If you are talking about multi pack all nylon with a centre seam, than ouch, that is another story.

Girlonthego · 16/05/2021 06:51

Fango rot Susannah 😂

Yes the thought of pubes getting caught did cross my mind but it's interesting to hear your thoughts Starlight. It's all about quality.

(On another note I went into Sparks yesterday and it turns out they no longer sell maternity tights!)

@Girlonthego - Maybe the (male?) marketing people at Marks have decided being pregnant is not fashionable this year 😂 ?

Fortunately, John Lewis have a maternity range including tights in 15 to 60 denier with a cotton gusset (NB: No knickers shown on the pictures on the packets). They stock maternity leggings too.

On this topic more generally, are tights not just knickers with legs in them?

Best wishes to you, your bump and future baby!

Surely to god this is a recipe for thrush?!?!?! It’s making me itch just thinking about it 😂

StarlightLady · 16/05/2021 08:55

With a cotton gusset and less layering why should it be a recipe for thrush any more than wearing knickers? ‘Been doing this for many years without problems.

Ritasdaughter1969 · 16/05/2021 09:26

Another thinking thrush here, sorry. Not pregnant but another suggestion for snag they're sooo comfy.

ZenNudist · 16/05/2021 09:28

Grim.
