Is my hair dated

So I just turned 40 and don't know if my hair is a bit dated. I am booking an appointment with my hairdresser soon and wondering should I get a new colour /style. I have been looking at rose gold.

You've got gorgeous hair but if you want to be bang up to date, I think bleach blonde can be a bit dating. I've had mine 'reverse balyaged' so I've got tiny blonde lights on a warmer, darker base. The condition is absolutely transformed, although yours looks healthy anyway.

Waves are defo current but they take some doing, I would only be arsed for special occasions.

If you follow Really Ree on insta, she's cut her very long hair into a long bob. It looks fresh and modern, and a lovely 'bronde' colour.

None of this is to criticise, you look fab as you are. Just ideas.

Great advice of everyone, thank you all so much. Its good to get an unbiased opinion.

A new hair colour is always a pick me up, so if you have had it like that for a while I would totally go for it. And while I think the length is nice, I think sometimes some long layers can give more movement.

Londoncatshed · 03/05/2021 15:36

To me, it’s the colour that is a little dated. So many of us start out as fair and then have highlights. Over the years our natural hair colour gets darker and we continue to put more and more blonde highlights in our hair. Look around and loads of late 30/40 women have the same hair colour.
I’ve gone darker and it suits me much more, although most of my friends were shocked I ditched the blonde. Update your colour and you might prefer it.

Splann · 03/05/2021 15:38

You’ve got lovely hair! The problem is if you add a style to it you have to style it each day. And if your go to (which mine is) is to stick your sunglasses on your head it’s not really worth the effort imo.

Your friend in the photo has lovely layers, maybe add in something like that? But I bet she spent a bit of time blow drying it to make it look that good! I agree with going for a colour change.

You look fab for 40!

HerMammy · 03/05/2021 15:39

I’ve always been blonde but last week got my colour done with some caramel through and it’s really made a difference.
I have a natural wave and have a few layers which gives it a lift, your friend in black looks like she has that and it definitely makes a change.

Mammymar · 03/05/2021 15:40

@Londoncatshed, oh really, I never thought of going darker, just lighter. But I can understand what you are saying about a certain age group having the same colour blonde.

I think the blonde is looking a bit flat and one dimensional. Probably - (like me )you’ve had hi lights and hi lights. I’m going to incorporate some warmer tones into mine when I go in a couple of weeks. The style is classic though.

Mammymar · 03/05/2021 15:42

@HerMammy@Splann,thats my Aunt, but yes I agree with you about the layers, and her hair looks great.

StevieNix · 03/05/2021 15:44

I think it look nice as is and isn't dated. If you wanted a change I would go even lighter- I think it would really suit you and you could pull of a very light blonde

SeaTurtles92 · 03/05/2021 15:47

The woman next to you has more texture/layers and with thick hair that needs to be done on yours.
Nothing wrong with your hair btw just think it would look nice with a few layers and some texture.

SweetPetrichor · 03/05/2021 15:50

I think you look great. I wouldn’t say it’s dated at all.

Londoncatshed · 03/05/2021 15:50

Forgot to say OP, Happy Birthday. You’re very pretty and look lovely by the way. My eyes really pop now (blue) with darker hair. Your roots look darker than your ends and so it could look fab. Google some blonde to brunette images. I spent ages doing this and then went darker gradually. I love it now and it’s so good not to be worrying about dark roots needing doing all the time.
I have stronger brows now too and did change my make up slightly.

Mammymar · 03/05/2021 15:59

@SweetPetrichor@Londoncatshed,im really overwhelmed with the great advice and lovely comments, thank you everyone.

Happy birthday! Your hair looks lovely, as do you, but rose gold would suit you so well. Or even a pale pink toner.

Mammymar · 03/05/2021 16:13

@BetterKateThanNever,thank you and yes yes yes yes I would love pink.

Blacklampshades · 03/05/2021 16:25

It’s simple and inoffensive but you’re very pretty and have a young looking face so I think you could get away with something a bit more daring.

LastResponder · 03/05/2021 16:39

Middle part it, loose waves, maybe curtain bangs and a root smudge would bring you bang up to date x

2020nymph · 03/05/2021 16:43

@MrBeagles

You look lovely. I will say though I'm 39 and have just had rose gold tint put through my hair on Thursday. I absolutely love it. Go for it. It's only hair and it will wash out!

That sounds gorgeous!

Mammymar · 03/05/2021 16:47

@MrBeagles,have you a photo?
