Good evening. I've finished reading an older thread from 2009 and have my curly girl supplies making their way to me, ready to accept the challenge to change my frizzy mess of hair.

My plan, to do the method for a few weeks and then book a dry cut in at the hairdressers to get rid of the dead ends.(lock down hair at it's worst)

I’ve bought the Aussie miracle moist shampoo for the final shampoo wash.
Original source conditioner for the co wash and keep in. Plus umberto giannini scrunch jelly and misting pots so I plan to:

Condition and rinse
Condition with a tiny blob and leave it in
Gel when wet 50/50 spritz with a scrunch dry.
Plopping method for 20 minutes and then air dry or diffuse if short of time on a low and cool speed.

I. Can't believe I have tried to tame my hair for over 40 years and failed so badly. Fingers crossed for the curly girl method.

How did you get on? I've been doing it for six weeks. I've posted these before, but here are my before and after pics.

If I can transform my hair anyone can!

Sainsbury's own brand coconut conditioner is the best and cheapest for CO washing.
I've also recently discovered L'Oréal Wonder Water in superdrug, it would go on your hair (and be rinsed out between co wash 1 and 2). It is lovely, co friendly, silicone free.
I dye my hair with henna and coconut oil too. Took me till 46 to sort my pouffy frizz. 🙂

MadMadMadamMim · 04/05/2021 00:05

I'm CG with my lockdown hair and it looks much better.

Girlintheframe · 04/05/2021 08:51

I've been doing it for about a year. My hair was/is quite badly damaged.
Its definitely made my curl definition better but tbh I find it a faff. Curls only look really good for 1-2 days max.
I find curly more work then straight tbh.

For OK curls on day two and three, you could try a silk pillow case, or a silk bonnet (sexy!!!!) . I just wrap a silk scarf over my pillow case and it really helps to keep the curls OK.

Yes, I saw your pics on the previous thread, lovely, lovely curls. How are you getting on now, are you still doing the CG method?

Does anyone have a beginners guide step by step for us newbies, please? I haven't started yet, still buying the bits and bibs needed.

@incenseandpeppermints
I agree on the Sainsbury’s conditioner
I don’t do curly girl but when I use it it makes my curls really shiny and defined

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 04/05/2021 21:49

Oh yes please to @CanIBeACurlyGirl’s request for a beginner’s guide! I would love this so much. Thank you in advance to all you CG experts Smile

Me..... I have ditched shampoo. I wash with conditioner. I deep condition with palmers olive sachets. I rinse and then put a leave in conditioner in. Every 3 weeks I’ll use Apoghee ( not cgm ). I plop with a t shirt , diffuse and am done

Do you brush your hair through after rinse? I want to start doing this as I have a naturally wavy hair but haven't scrunched in years so not sure if brushing hair is a good idea but my hair gets tangled easily especially at the bottom of my head.

Flibbitygibbit · 04/05/2021 22:15

Mine doesn’t like coconut, only likes olive. If you are on Facebook there’s loads of groups there ... also for protein you could use a rice water wash . It’s a bit of a game though to find what suits, I’ve ditched mousse and gel now and have best curls ever , even though it’s needy and no two days are the same... also you need either a silk pillow case or cap at night to protect the curls 😊

Ilikecheeseontoast · 04/05/2021 22:16

Sorry but what I'm watch is plop?? Plopping?? What??

Get a denman brush, a number 7 and take every other row out, or a wide comb and brush when it’s wet through with conditioner in.
Flibbitygibbit · 04/05/2021 22:20

Plopping is a t shirt used to dry your hair, as a towel is too rough and will stop the curls defining themselves 🤔 you plop for 10 minutes say... there’s also the saying squish to condish. Lots of info about if you have low / high porosity hair as well...
And lots of expensive products when actually, a conditioner will do you !

If you are on Facebook this group is really helpful and has some beginners guides in the files

Following as just starting to use CG method

Silverparting · 04/05/2021 23:57

Hi OP, yes I am still doing CGM and six weeks in.
Still loving it and getting good results mostly - I had a rubbish wash day this week because I forgot my hair doesn't like mousse, but it loves gel.

Yes, this is also the conclusion I've come to.
CanIBeACurlyGirl · 05/05/2021 11:06

Fingers crossed my hair likes coconut conditioner I've bought 6 bottles and my t shirt arrived today along with the wide comb.

Off to read the links thank you Flowers

Mostly CG for 5 years or so. I do use low poo, and sometimes hairspray with a drying alcohol but never silicones

Usually
Wash - as I am co wash
Condition - creightons micellar
Style - treluxe serum and gel or ecoslay orange marmalade

Blacktothepink · 05/05/2021 16:42

What low poo do you use Queen?
