Best shampoo and conditioner on a budget

I have highlighted shoulder length hair. I'm very lazy about products and use a 2 in 1 shampoo which isn't the best but quick. My hair is very greasy and putting more products on it seems to make it worse. Any recommendations from greasy haired mumsnetters?

Definitely wouldn't use a combined. I find the L'Oréal red bottle for coloured hair to be great , often on offer and lasts ages , quite good
I love Redken all soft but it's not cheap

The Alberto balsam range is only £1 a bottle and whenever I've used it I've been impressed to be honest, light weight, doesn't weigh down and the scent lasts ages
SmashingPumpkinPatch · 01/05/2021 10:49

I use grüum shampoo bars and they last forever! So the initial layout isn't especially cheap, but they last me weeks and weeks. I think I've had the current bar for months. But I've been alternating with a purple one I bought and didn't like, just to get rid of it, which I more or less have now.

BunnyRuddington · 01/05/2021 10:53

I've only ever used cheap shampoos and I get regular comments from hairdressers about the great condition of my hair. One hairdresser actually asked me what I'd been using as the "condition was just amazing". I'd been using Lidl's Grin

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 01/05/2021 10:55

Aldi Lacura, hot oil

Woodlandbelle · 01/05/2021 10:58

I have greasy hair and I am just as happy with the Alberto tea tree or whatever. I wouldn't use 2 in 1 though.
Recently bought vichy stuff. More expensive but no more greasy hair or itchy scalp.

Garnier Ultimate Blends

My hair goes greasy quickly at the roots and I wash it every other day, (try to stretch to a third day when I can). I found Aussie shampoo (not the cheapest, though a littlebetter on promotion) with Aldi lacura conditioner works well for me. The conditioner that works well is in a peacock blue/pink bottle and I think boosts volume too.

buckleten · 01/05/2021 11:11

I have greasy hair and have to wash it every day, the shampoo and conditioner I like best is tresemme 24 hour.

User0ne · 01/05/2021 11:54

I used to have greasy hair. I gradually dropped to washing once a week and no longer have a grease problem despite running X3 a week and getting sweaty with it. I also use significantly less shampoo/conditioner so can spend a bit more.

Sakura7 · 01/05/2021 12:15

L'Oréal Elvive is great, and is usually half price somewhere. Herbal Essences is good too.

Alberto Balsam doesn't work for me, but I have long hair that's dry at the ends and tangles easily. My friend with short hair uses the apple one and loves it.

baggies · 01/05/2021 12:26

Do you all just use the conditioner on the ends?

I quite like the Alberto balsam range, particularly the raspberry one - smells gorgeous on my hair!

My go to is Herbal Essences, I usually try and get a couple of bottles when it's on offer

Yes! I definitely wouldn't condition my roots, I think I'd end up really greasy
Standrewsschool · 01/05/2021 12:41

L’Oréal red bottle for me also, which I always buy on offer. I was my hair every other day, and condition on alternate washes.

One of my big bugbears with shampoos is that very few people make shampoos for greasey hair anymore. From memory, there’s an Alberta balsam one, and L’Oréal green bottle (clay). Growing up, you had greasey, dry, dandruff or normal hair. Now the shampoos are all about moisturising, volumising, shine, etc. Grrrr! (Rant over)

ILoveShula · 01/05/2021 14:16

Herbal Essences. Cien from Lidl. Schwarzkopf .

Pinktruffle · 01/05/2021 15:21

I condition the length of my hair only. I used to get very greasy hair and I realised that conditioner on the roots was the culprit. I can now go a week without washing my hair (I discovered this during lockdown and looking after a newborn, I dont regularly leave it a week!)

Terminallysleepdeprived · 01/05/2021 15:24

I have bleach blonde hair and the £1 Alberto Balsam stuff is brilliant!! I use the coconut one and it kick the shit out of all the mega bucks ones I tried.

Egghead68 · 01/05/2021 15:24

Tresemme

FourEyesGood · 01/05/2021 15:35

Sainsbury’s coconut conditioner (but only on the length, not the scalp). It’s about 90p and doesn’t have any silicone.
I use a fairly expensive Redken shampoo but I don’t really think it makes that much difference; I just like the smell and the foaminess of it.

ChickNorris · 01/05/2021 16:11

I've started using Aveeno recently and I am very happy with it so far. My hair doesn't get greasy as quickly as it used to and more importantly my scalp doesn't itch anymore (the reason why I bought it in the first place after looking for options). I will most likely repurchase once I've ran out.

Gothichouse40 · 01/05/2021 16:14

Herbal Essences or Head and Shoulders.

polkadotpjs · 01/05/2021 19:19

Ooh now head and shoulders I keep meaning to try again. Which one?
And I think I also had a good one from France Klorane I think it was. Smelled lush too. I think that you're so right PP about branding now. Like I'd be bothered if it said "for greasy hair" - I actively want something light and cleansing

WellTidy · 01/05/2021 19:27

Not a shampoo recommendation, but when my hair is greasy I use batiste dry shampoo. Absorbs the grease and makes my hair look really full. And then washes out.

Decorhate · 01/05/2021 19:40

I use Tresemme Cleanse & Replenish or Pantene Classic Clean or Smooth & Sleek. My favourite conditioner is Pantene Smooth & Sleek. I use it all over not just the ends. I prefer to wash my hair every day. But I just wash & go, do not spend ages styling it etc.
