Skin + me - what moisturiser?

Tinks15 · 30/04/2021 18:17

Need a moisturiser that actually helps with the dry flakiness I’m getting, I’ve tried a few different ones now but have not helped so tempted to give it up.

Thanks

Anyone?

Make sure you're putting it on dry skin
If you get too flaky then skip a night
I like the Superdrug pure hydration serum for under a moisturiser in the morning
Alpha h essential hydration is my fave moisturiser, I usually buy off eBay as it's cheaper

Junobug · 01/05/2021 18:27

I use cataphil wash and face moisturiser in the morning. I was using a superdrug night cream but I think I react to the coconut in it, so in desperation, I used my daughters Weleda calendular face cream and it was brilliant. I'm out of it now so using an Aldi one but I will go back to Weleda.

Jedstre · 01/05/2021 18:30

Use a moisturiser with niacinamide. It helps boost your skin barrier so is excellent to help skin tolerate retinoids. I use cerave.

Hopdathelf · 02/05/2021 08:36

I’m doing two nights of Skin + Me then a night off. After a Skin + Me night I use Elemis Night Treatment Cream Oil. On the ‘off’ night I use The Inkey List Ceramide Night Treatment.

I was ready to pack it in after trying so hard for four months with it and getting nothing but pain, redness and flakiness. However, in the past fortnight things have turned a corner (also broadly coincides with a higher tret dose which is impressive). I am now a total convert. I went out yesterday with a dusting of powder and a dab of concealer only. Before I would have been in concealer, corrector, primer, medium to full coverage foundation and powder or even powder foundation on top.

Tinks15 · 02/05/2021 08:54

Thank you all, I’ve been on it 7 months now thought by now things would of got better.

Just don’t know if I should give it a little longer or not.

What prescription are you all on? I’ve not seen much difference 3 months in. They’re upping my tretenoin to 0.018 next month.

AWafferthinmint · 02/05/2021 09:02

I bought marks and Spencer's sleep cream which got rid of the flakiness. I've only been using skin + me for a month though and am about to increase the % so am expecting the flakiness to increase. I must say, I'm really impressed so far. The first 2 weeks brought on some sort of purge but now my skin is the best it's been for years.

MrsKHB · 02/05/2021 09:03

CeraVe moisturiser is great OP, but it’s not cruelty free unfortunately.
It the one a lot of Dermatologists recommend.

AWafferthinmint · 02/05/2021 09:03

Also agree with PP about skipping a night if it becomes really flaky, I've done this a couple of times and it helped.

Tinks15 · 02/05/2021 09:14

I buffer the dose with moisturiser before as well as that’s what they suggested when I messaged them & occasionally miss the odd night but still doesn’t make a difference.

Maybe I should look into an alternative moisturiser to the one they recommended.

@doorornottodoor I’m on 0.21 tret

Can you list the moisturisers you have tried?

ginoclocksomewhere · 02/05/2021 09:23

Contrary Yo-Yo PP every advice I've read is that putting moisturiser on damp skin is best.

Use an exfoliator a couple of times per week, hyaluronic acid on damp skin applied before moisturiser.

Hopdathelf · 02/05/2021 09:33

Use an exfoliator a couple of times per week

Be careful with this one. I was specifically told not to use any manual or chemical exfoliators. If cell turnover is already increased, hence the flaking, further exfoliation could be harmful.

Hopdathelf · 02/05/2021 09:34

And I think the reference to dry skin was the treatment cream, not moisturiser.

Tinks15 · 02/05/2021 09:34

@Apileofballyhoo below ones I have tried

LRP toleriane
Avene emulsion
Cetaphil
Simple

@ginoclocksomewhere what exfoliator do you use?

I also apply moisturiser on damp skin after patting in some hyaluronic acid serum.

I use a Liz Earle moisturiser - I have very reactive skin and rosacea and this is lovely. Sometimes add a drop of facial oil to it too if my skin feels drier.

Ostryga · 02/05/2021 09:36

LRP Cicaplast Baume B5 - thick layer on as a sleep cream and it’ll be sorted in a day. Magical stuff

hidethexylophone · 02/05/2021 09:40

I have the flakiness issue with skin+me too, although my skin overall is much better. I started using the LRP tolereine in the morning and a Paula's choice oil free moisturiser in the evening, following the recommendations they gave. However, I've now switched and use the PC oil free one in the morning and a heavier PC one for extra dry skin in the evening. That has definitely improved things but still not perfect. However, I have been using the PC BHA exfoliant every other day in the morning and from reading this thread I might stop using that for a couple of weeks to see if that helps.

Out of interest, for those who are having their % of Tret increased, did they do that of their own accord or did you ask for it/send further pics or feedback? I've been using skin+me for 4 months now but as far as I know, the formula hasn't changed and maybe I should ask for a review?

Hopdathelf · 02/05/2021 09:42

Mine has just increased automatically month on month. I was quite surprised at that given I got in touch twice about concerns it was too strong.

Lellochip · 02/05/2021 09:43

I'm using this and still flaky as anything. I use tretinoin only every 2nd or third day, hyaluronic and cerave moisturizer before to buffer it, then cerave/squalane oil/cicaplast slathered on after. Still so dry!
Tinks15 · 02/05/2021 09:47

They increase my tret automatically every month too.

I am using beauty pie Japanfusion. I had awful redness and dry skin to begin with on Skin+Me, it was painful! I dropped to using every other night. Make sure you're applying the Skin+Me to dry skin - so cleanse your face, pat dry and then clean your teeth to give your skin time to properly dry. Apply Skin+Me and then by the time I get myself into bed a few mins later I apply the Japanfusion on top. Sometimes I use the moisture mask from the same range if it's feeling very dry. I use the same cream in the day too. Skin is looking great now! Before when I've used Tret and had dryness I used Origins drink up mask as a night cream in the same way and that worked well too.

doorornottodoor · 02/05/2021 09:51

@Tinks15 0.021? Or 0.21? The latter seems very high. Not that I’m an expert Grin

doorornottodoor · 02/05/2021 09:55

@hidethexylophone mine has just increased by 0.03 each month. I got in touch as no difference, sent photos and they’ve upped it by 0.06 next month. So it will be 0.018.

My concerns were ageing but I do have some congestion/blocked pores and slightly sensitive skin.

Going into month 4 soon.
