SLS & paraben free dandruff shampoo HELP!

Can anyone recommend a shampoo that is SLS & paraben free and actually works on dandruff? I’m desperate and very itchy.

Over the last year I have tried:
Noughty shampoo the caretaker
Faith in nature lemon & tea tree
Eclat anti dandruff

They all initially worked well but, after repeat purchases, by bottle 3/4 they suddenly stop working. I now have a collection of half used bottles. I have gone back to retry each one and find I flare up and flake even more than before! I’m on the verge of going back to nizorel in desperation.

Cost is an issue, I’d rather not have to pay more than £10 if possible.
Can anyone help?

Green People do a shampoo for itchy scalps which is good.

Try the XHC therapeutic shampoo, it’s very mild and has no sulfates in. It’s available from most chemists, Home Bargains and Savers I think and only £2 so well worth a try. It stinks but in my house that’s a good thing, it means that no one else will use it!

£15 for a shampoo (even if it works) is a bit much so I will try the cheaper one first. Typically I’ve already been to HB this morning to stock up on things but will go there again tomorrow.

I use moogoo because my dandruff is like cradle cap mixed with an itchy scalp. It does keep it under control though not Head and Shoulders advert flake free. Unfortunately, it only comes in big bottles so would be hard to try out. moogooskincare.co.uk/milk-shampoo

I had seen moogoo - it had good reviews-but the thought of buying a big bottle that may not work has put me off. I wish you could buy small samples.

nizorel has an antifungal ingredient so maybe look for a shampoo that includes that.
I use the nitty gritty nit comb to get off flakes and that helps alot.

I actually caved and used some nizorel I had left in an old bottle last night but if I can find something with an anti fungal in I will give that a go.

Moo goo is the only thing which works for me. Really is excellent.

I wish they did sample sizes.

The As I am itchy scalp range is fab.

I was recommended La Roche Posay Kerium DS by a dermatologist and it works well, but it's expensive. She also recommended Bioderm DS too but I haven't tried that.

Both quite expensive, especially if they turn out not to work for me but thanks, will add them to my list of possibles to try.

That’s very kind of you QueenPaw but don’t worry, I will work through some on the list here starting at the cheap end and working my way up. Hopefully something cheap ish will do the trick!

Silverparting I’ve seen good things about the body shop one in the past. I’d forgotten about that, I’ve just ordered some to try.

Jason tea tree oil one. You can get it from Ocado, Look Fantastic and some other places. It’s £8 ish but on offer at Ocado for £5.32 right now. I massage it into the scalp and leave it on for two or three minutes before rinsing. I’ve used other stuff but this is the one that I always go back to.

This is the one we've bought for our 11 year old. It's really effective, costs £8 and lasts ages. I'll buy it again for him.

My DH uses this one, he says it's fantastic. And plastic-free!

@PineappleWilson funnily enough I’ve just been using that. The first bottle worked brilliantly, the second bottle was as runny as water so I didn’t know if that one, or the first one, wasn’t right. My 3rd bottle, that I’ve almost finished, was the same consistency of no.1 but my head is now so itchy and the flakes are starting to be really visible because its stopped working. That’s what prompted me to ask on here.

@rbe78 I’ve been toying with the idea of a bar but they get such mixed reviews. Good to know that one works, I would just need to figure out a way to stop my lot thinking it’s for general washing!

I've had a similar experience where everything I've tried - including t gel and nizoral - works initially but then stops.

I have some success with apple cider vinegar (about 1:3 with water) left on scalp 10 minutes and then rinsed. Coconut oil on scalp for 30 minutes before washing used to work too but I no longer use a shampoo so can't do this. I find if I do a home hair dye, the dandruff disappear ls for a bit.

What has the most effect for me is to make sure I don't go to bed with wet hair or leave it wet in a towel for too long.

I use nizoral to get it under control then neal & wolf, not cheap at £20 a bottle but it lasts 12 months.

How could I have missed the As I Am range for 20p? Where and when was that? Superdrug you say? Recently? Which county?

@TeaAddict235 sorry it was ages ago! I saw a post in a CG group and went hunting. It was the cleansing pudding, dry and itchy shampoo/conditioner, co wash and curling jelly
Some was 20p, some £2. Should have been £294 and I ended up with a multi buy discount too (I did leave some but regretting I didn't take the lot now)
