@Countmeout

That is fantastic *@Bimblesalong*. Such a talent to have.

Happy birthday @AmethystMoonShine that’s a beautiful necklace.

@Templetreeee can you show us which one you bought please.

As predicted the Tala dress did not arrive yesterday. Hopefully tomorrow. There seems to be a black hole in Royal Mail Swansea somewhere that swallows Toast orders .

Its the cream Gansey. Its on the Toast and JL websites
Sooverthemill · 09/05/2021 12:13

@Bimblesalong

Toast got me back into knitting in lockdown. I bought the fairisle green sweater last year, then searched the wool and knitted a fairisle vest. Since then I’ve made a few things, including a stunning Marie Wallin jacket that I’m so proud of.

Thanks, Toast!

Ooh @Bimblesalong that's awesome! I have a few of her fair isles saved for when I'm feeling super confident and I'm planning to make a Nordic sweater for DH for Christmas. Did you find her patterns easy to follow?
Bimblesalong · 09/05/2021 13:54

@Sooverthemill I do find her patterns easy - but then I knitted kaffe Fassett stuff way back so this is a party! I had never steeked and now wonder how I did without it! Her wool is lovely. In frequently sniffing it as I knit.

She’s working on some men’s patterns at present, which look lovely (she’s on Facebook).

AmethystMoonShine · 09/05/2021 15:38

Thank you for my birthday wishes.... it’s not actually for another week but I was given the money so I could buy something to be delivered (hopefully) in time Smile

Sooverthemill · 09/05/2021 16:06

@Bimblesalong I'm terrified of steeking. I bought this book to knit the cover cardigan but it is steeked. And I'm put off a bit, hence my desire to really practice my knitting and challenge myself a bit. I'm going to get the kit for the Letho sweater from the book from jarbon textiles I think and when I've done that, attempt the steeking! In the 70s 80s and 90s I knitted patrica Roberts, kaffe fassett and so many other, complex designs but with kids and work I stopped and my confidence dropped.

Bimblesalong · 09/05/2021 16:38

Gosh that is lovely @Sooverthemill. Honestly, you’ll wonder why you’d never done it before. I would suggest that when you do steek, you sewing machine reinforce and crochet steek it. Unless the wool is from the shetlands in which case it holds itself together shouting “bite me!”

Bimblesalong · 09/05/2021 16:42

This is the vest I knitted - great wool from Jamiesons and smith - pattern is Redbud from Janine Bajus. My first foray into steeking ...

This is really taking me back.
I have almost every Rowan knitting magazine.
Love Patricia Roberts, Sacha Kagan and knitted a couple of things by Alice Starmore and do you remember Edina Ronay ?

I knitted the cover sweater of her book.
Whilst I admired KF I didnt find his designs partiularly female figure friendly.
Probably most of my knits were Kim Hargreaves Smile
I love John Arbon( small Devon Mill for anyone reading ) and also have knitted recently with Kettle Yarn Co.
I hope no one minds the yarn/ knitting
Chat.

Bimblesalong · 09/05/2021 17:18

@Templetreebalm totally agree with post (& John Arbon makes Marie Wallin’s yarns).
There’s a strong crossover with traditional crafts with Toast clothing - so many of these things would mix really well.

I have to say, I still need knitwear with my lovely Nala dress!

Im making a dress as we speak Grin

Did anyone see the Toast Renewal auction thing coming up?

Bimblesalong · 09/05/2021 18:42

The renewal auction looks amazing. I don’t dare look at the garments in case I really want one !!

Templetreeee · 09/05/2021 19:14

While I appreciate the art and
sentiment behind it, it grates massively that their paying customers are being let down.
They need to sort their business principles and customer service out first.
Sorry 😬

Sooverthemill · 09/05/2021 20:17

@Templetreebalmyes I have also knitted loads of Kim Hargreaves and made an Edina Ronny jumper once. The Jarbon textile mill is amazing and I have ordered some yarn from there. I was thinking of buying the yarn for my fair isle/steeking projects from there which is why I want to be really good as it's expensive and I don't want to make errors! I've shown DDsome of the jumpers I made and she thinks they are hilarious. So intricate. Very eighties. I liked kaffe fassett for waistcoats and cardigans. Wish I still had them all. If anyone has the Patricia Roberts 'scrabble' pattern I would love it as I'd like to make it in navy. Love a bit of knitting chat! It was actually buying a toast jumper that j scored me to knit again as they are expensive ( and obviously so, the quality) and I just wanted to do it myself so that they fit well ( I'm short).

Sooverthemill · 09/05/2021 20:18

This is it

faustina · 09/05/2021 21:27

@Sooverthemill - I have a load of Patricia Roberts books - will have a look next week for you

Sooverthemill · 10/05/2021 11:09

@faustina thank you! I think it was in No 2

Eeek! I’m still waiting for £330 from over a month ago... plus I have a skirt and a dress to return. @Laska2Meryls I will put some pictures up later of the Pihu for you.

Countmeout · 10/05/2021 17:06

Well my Tala dress arrived. Fortunately (given those reviews ) it’s a keeper. A little darker green than online but I’ve come to expect that. Great fit great length and came with the fushoki (sp) cloths.
I have my eye on a couple of other things but will hold off to see if they sort themselves out.

Yorkshirelass04 · 10/05/2021 17:21

Hi everyone. So here is the jumpsuit Nikki had on which I ordered. I do love it. The square neckline is cute and it looks like a dress when on. Needs some lipstick and a necklace to look trendy rather than frumpy.

Anyone with a bust will not be able to do the top button at the side up. Any advice on how I could amend it to solve that? Move the button a bit?

Yorkshirelass04 · 10/05/2021 17:22

Sorry here it is

Toast 7 - Onwards to brighter days, we hope ..
Yorkshirelass04 · 10/05/2021 17:23

Btw I am normally a 10 but bought an 8 as usual. As usual it is fine everywhere but boobs. I don't want to size up because it'll then get massive.

Looks lovely. Just move the button :)
Countmeout · 10/05/2021 17:53

@Yorkshirelass04 love that jumpsuit. What is it like round the bottom. I thought it looked like a similar fit to the Kado dress from last year in the chest . It too has buttons at the side. I had to size up in it but obviously being a dress the bum area didn’t matter quite so much.

Plumpciousness · 10/05/2021 18:00

Can I ask for your recommendations on Toast shops in London? I like the one in Marylebone but not so much the one in Islington. I don't know if it's just the interior (the Islington shop seems very stark) or whether some branches have more stock than others.

I discovered today there's a branch in Dering Street, off Oxford Street (opp John Lewis) - I think it's the ground floor of what used to be MacCulloch & Wallis haberdashery. Has anyone been there?

Do all branches carry the same stock or are some better than others?

clearsky · 10/05/2021 18:38

I went to the Marylebone store and the one off Oxford Street a couple of weeks ago. They are both lovely shops with friendly staff. At that time the Marylebone store had more of the old stock and the Oxford Street one had more new stock. That may have changed a little now. Marylebone said they were expecting a new delivery.
