What I asked for vs. What I got

I asked for pic 1 and left with pic 2. ..

It's so different! I had to leave in a hurry (& it wasn't cut in front of a mirror) so I didn't get to appreciate just how bad it was.

My hairdresser is lovely (but not brilliant) and has really struggled over lockdown so I've already accepted I'm not going back to her to fix it.

I just feel so mumsy and frumpy.

What shall I do?

  • leave it and style as best as I can? The colour isn't bad, it's just not right.
  • try to dye it myself at home- very risky!
  • throw money at it (which I don't really have, and it will be ages for an appointment in a salon)

I do know it's just hair. But I was really looking forward to having it done nicely.

It's nice. Looks natural, and bouncy and glossy.

hairdyehaircry · 17/04/2021 15:46

Thank you! That's reassuring.

I think yours looks nicer than the pic of that you originally wanted :)

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 17/04/2021 15:47

She's cut the layers too short, I think you'll have to grow it out with just end trims to get the style you wanted.

Chocolateteabag · 17/04/2021 15:49

The first picture is very very blonde
It would have taken some bleaching to achieve on your hair (assuming some highlights have already gone through your hair to get it to the second pic)

The cut looks good - maybe you just need some more defined highlights?

Megasaurus · 17/04/2021 15:51

She should have thinned it out and layered the underneath, she's given you quite a blunt cut.

It's honestly not that bad op, but I can see it's not what you asked for. You have very thick hair so she def should have thinned it out.

Iamblossom · 17/04/2021 15:52

I have looked several times and apart from the colour the cut looks pretty similar to me?

Am I missing something here?

Creepygnochi · 17/04/2021 15:53

I think it's pretty similar actually, given your different hair types. Hers is also styled while yours isn't.

It looks nice either way.

Notthecarwashagain · 17/04/2021 15:57

Agree with Welll. It's the shorter layers that make the difference.
The other hair is a graduated bob that's been tousled.

Yours looks nice though!

RacheyCat · 17/04/2021 16:00

It's not at all the same cut. The OP has asked for a very modern style with a very modern cutting technique and she has been given a basic haircut. Expecting to get that level of lift in one visit was unrealistic, so I'd accept the colour, but I would be peeved about the cut. It's not that there's something wrong with the hair, it's just wrong.

Bad luck, OP. A lot of hairdressers can't cut like that. I'd suggest finding a stylist who posts their work on insta so you know they can do it.

Susannahmoody · 17/04/2021 16:10

The colour is completely different?! How can people minimise this?

Sunnyday321 · 17/04/2021 16:13

You hair is much thicker than the model, thus giving a much more wispy look.

balloonsandboobies · 17/04/2021 16:14

I also think the cut is pretty similar (and very nice). Did you want the same colour though, because if you did you're right to be disappointed!

Spied · 17/04/2021 16:14

Totally different look. I'd be disappointed too.

FastingBitchFace · 17/04/2021 16:14

@RacheyCat, can you explain the differences in lay person’s language? I like that wispy/piecey/choppy effect but never know what it’s called.

I don't know what it's called either! I just know it's a thing!

Chickychickydodah · 17/04/2021 16:31

I think it looks lovely,

Cissyandflora · 17/04/2021 16:36

It looks good. Same as you asked for apart from the colour. Did you want blonde? That colour would be hard to achieve. Highlights next time maybe? But you don’t look frumpy. I’m tempted to take your pic in as my model for when I eventually get my hair cut.

dontgobaconmyheart · 17/04/2021 16:37

Did you ask for the colour too OP or just the cut?

I don't think the two cuts are wildly different length wise, the photo you took in has more finesse but is a styled picture and you and the model have totally different hair textures.

I'd try putting some waves in, pulling them into the shape you want as you go and tousle with product (salt spray, a pomade) and see what you think of the cut. That look requires a fair bit of styling IMO.

If that is the hairdressers attempt at replicating that colour though, they've failed.

hairdyehaircry · 17/04/2021 16:40

Well you've made my day Grin!

Thanks, RacheyCat. Grin

Eyevorbig0ne · 17/04/2021 16:40

They're totally different.
The first is bold, funky and exciting
The second one is muted and safe

Lou98 · 17/04/2021 16:41

Was it supposed to be the same colour aswell or just the cut you asked for?

If also the colour it can be quite hard to get it to that after one visit but I'd have expected her to explain that to you so you were expecting it rather than just not saying anything!

The cut I agree isn't the same, although I do still think yours looks nice! It will look nice waved/curled etc although it could like quite blunt if you were to wear it straight

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/04/2021 16:42

I don't think the cut is a million miles off, but you have much thicker hair than the picture and if it behaves like mine it pings up a lot when its dried, hence the layers looking shorter. I have been told I need the length to weigh mine down so wouldnt choose a cut so short myself but mine has a natural wave. The colour would need several visits and is likely to look quite orange if you try and do it quickly. I don't thinking bad at all but obviously not what you had in mind.

babbaloushka · 17/04/2021 16:46

I think it looks great, the honey blonde is a nicer and more natural look IMO, but obviously if you wanted lighter your hairdresser ought to have bleached it really.
