Help find my fat arse find a beer garden dress?

Have gained loads of weight in lockdown. I'm starting to work on getting healthier. 5'4 and currently a 14 getting towards a 16 soon if I don't get my shit together.
Pale skin, blue eyes, red hair.
Good boobs and don't mind a bit o cleavage. Legs ok but definitely want midi or maxi length. Worst area is my belly - it's just awful.

I want a comfy, floaty dress (maybe shirred?) for beer garden gatherings that WON'T make me look like a ship in full sail. To wear with flat sandals or trainers.

When I'm at my fighting weight I usually wear tea dress styles. Would describe my style as a bit alternative/true vintage/wannabe rock chick. I wear a lot of leopard print.

Criteria as below:

  • No zips or button fronts - I just want to be comfortable and look ok - is that doable?!

  • Midi or maxi

  • Not strappy. Must have at least short sleeves, preferably elbow length. Like kimono style.

  • Deep v neck preferred but also like square neck/milkmaid style.

  • Like some florals/love polka dots/bit retro (NOT fancy dress 50s Lady V style)

  • Like jewel tones..look good in green/blue/pink but usually just wear black (not so good for beer gardens in summer!).

  • Budget up to £50

  • Really not bothered about material

I have the dress in the pic and love it but it doesn't fit at the minute plus it's a bit black for summer - might give you an idea of what kind of thing I like though.

If anyone fancies a dress hunt I'll provide wine and twiglets 🍷.

Google Silkfred "Dove" dress, it's a shirt dress with a belt, long with sleeves and they have quite a few different patterns / colours, can't do a clicky link sorry

this Ro and Zo dress busts the budget but I love it, it has a shirred waist and drapes really nicely. There is an introductory discount.

There are a few other colours that might suit, depending on the shade of red your hair is. They do a long which at 5’6 comes a few inches below the knee for me. I’m a 34g and it will show off your cleavage whilst remaining squarely in the ‘not indecent’ category.

My voucher code has a 20% discount code.

I've recently bought a couple of dresses from here and been really pleased with them - am awaiting arrival of this one which might fit your bill? www.sugarhillbrighton.com/collections/dresses/products/lauretta-batik-shirt-dress

Ah, just remembered you didn't want buttons... I've got this one - zip at the back (which I didn't need to undo to get it on) but otherwise no fuss. Am same kind of shape as you, Also wrestling lockdown pounds..

Have you thought about a maxi dress. I’m a bit big in the arse area and find that a stirred bodice takes the emphasis off my bum. I have this dress and it’s gorgeous. Have a look at the link below.

Hi! Bit late to the party, but you should definitely check out Not So Tiny Vikings www.tinyvikings.co.uk/ladies/
Anna in Glasgow makes everything herself, with amazing fabrics from her native country (Sweden). She's lovely and very happy to please, if you need anything specific (non-standard fit or length for example) and you can choose from her range of fabrics. I have more Heather dresses (in different patterns, sleeves and necks) than I am prepared to admit to.

I bought 2 midi dresses today, both Mango, one zig zag print and one black with a floral design. I've only ever had one previously so I feel a bit strange about them. No refunds where I live so I'm committed now! 😂 I'm 5'10 and a size 14 to 16! I hope I'll look okay in them.

I just bought this dress yesterday in new look www.quizclothing.co.uk/clothes/00100030228.html

It's very flattering on my large size 18 frame! And looks nicer than the photos show, with the dipped hem at the back

@starofwonder oh that is gorgeous! What fabric is it - I can’t find any info on the website?

I’d forgotten about Sugarhill, I ordered a few bits from them years ago and loved them 🥰

Just a bit of an update. I started low carb the day I posted this thread and have lost 13lbs so am now back in (some of) my lovely dresses and working on the rest.

I did buy the ASOS dress linked upthread but for A/W to wear with tights and boots as it's too short for summer (if anyone is going to buy it, size down, it's jersey and generous).

I also bought this dress which is right up my street.

Thanks for all the suggestions and hope some of you bought some pretty dresses off the back of this thread!
