Have gained loads of weight in lockdown. I'm starting to work on getting healthier. 5'4 and currently a 14 getting towards a 16 soon if I don't get my shit together.
Pale skin, blue eyes, red hair.
Good boobs and don't mind a bit o cleavage. Legs ok but definitely want midi or maxi length. Worst area is my belly - it's just awful.

I want a comfy, floaty dress (maybe shirred?) for beer garden gatherings that WON'T make me look like a ship in full sail. To wear with flat sandals or trainers.

When I'm at my fighting weight I usually wear tea dress styles. Would describe my style as a bit alternative/true vintage/wannabe rock chick. I wear a lot of leopard print.

Criteria as below:

  • No zips or button fronts - I just want to be comfortable and look ok - is that doable?!
  • Midi or maxi
  • Not strappy. Must have at least short sleeves, preferably elbow length. Like kimono style.
  • Deep v neck preferred but also like square neck/milkmaid style.
  • Like some florals/love polka dots/bit retro (NOT fancy dress 50s Lady V style)
  • Like jewel tones..look good in green/blue/pink but usually just wear black (not so good for beer gardens in summer!).
  • Budget up to £50
  • Really not bothered about material

I have the dress in the pic and love it but it doesn't fit at the minute plus it's a bit black for summer - might give you an idea of what kind of thing I like though.

If anyone fancies a dress hunt I'll provide wine and twiglets 🍷.

I was in my local Asda yesterday and they had some really lovely dresses and all £18 or under. They actually stopped me in my tracks, I'd only gone in for coriander but couldn't believe how pretty they were, nice fabric, good shapes, they were just lovely.

I feel you op, I’ve put on 10kg since the start of covid and am miserable about it! Would something like this work? I think it looks quite flattering.

Over budget but I like the cut

TheChild · 17/04/2021 06:39

What a fab thread, I have pretty much the same requirements aa you OP although I can't wear anything with a sleeve shorter than elbow length! I just got lost browsing through the Mango website, they have some beautiful things. Does anyone know what their sizing is like?

I went shopping yesterday determined to get some new clothes and it was either crop tops, plain pastel colours or gaudy patterns. Now I've figured out what colour and styles actually suits me shopping is so much more difficult! Hope you find something 😊

Thank you 😊 I remember lusting after lots of beautiful Mango clothes when I was on holiday but they didn't sell my size, now I can fit in the clothes I might have to treat myself!

bellabride · 20/04/2021 17:51

Have a look at Shein for lots of choice of shirred top/ milkmaid style dresses x

nopuppiesallowed · 20/04/2021 18:02

My main problem is that, having heard about the treatment of the Uighurs (forced sterilisation of women and children being taken from their parents and put in orphanages) I no longer want to buy anything from China. And so much stuff is made there! It's a real eye opener 😔

Stop fatshaming - a size 14 is smaller than the average English woman - get a life and stopping buying into misogyny and body fascism

Erm stop “shaming” women for having an opinion about their own body

OP hasn’t said a word about anyone else’s but has just said how she feels for herself

go sign up for zuilly.co.uk...theyve got some rreally lovely/excellent priced ladies clothes...quite a variety but boho and feminine combined i think

Bobbi73 · 20/04/2021 19:48

I bought one of these the other day and I love it. I too have gained a lot of weight in lock down and since the babies, it all goes on my stomach.
They come in lots of different colours and even have pockets.

I am a size 14 and a big fan of Simply Be. It's a plus size site but their styles start in a size 12 so I find it's clothes are styled well and very flattering for midsize, especially in camouflaging the tummy area. Here are a couple of ideas

@Tweetypietwo I love those Mango dresses 😍 but both out of stock in a 14 and possibly too long for my short arse self :(
Going to see if they have any midis that might not be too long for my 5ft self
