Is this dress ok for a wedding?

I am 60 and bought this from Joe Browns for a wedding in August. I love it but am unsure about the depth of the neckline. I probably won't wear a jacket but do have a silver/grey wrap. Too young and/or revealing?

I'd say its too old not too young. I think its more of a casual dress to wear with flip flops or trainers. But its whatever your comfortable in that matters

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

What is a blow out? That's the second time I've seen it mentioned and I can't think of anything it might be (it sounds rude).
Think it means blow dry. It seems a shame to me not to wear a hat for a wedding, how often do you get the chance?

It's a blow dry I think Grin

It looks like something you would wear with white converse in a cocktail bar on a Saturday afternoon.

Lovely. But casual and not wedding.

Ruthietuthie · 15/04/2021 20:52

This dress makes me sad. It is exactly as you said, something to wear so no-one will look at you, as if you weren't worth the effort of dressing. It is dowdy and, as previous posters said, fine for throwing on to pop to the supermarket but not for a wedding.
You have a lovely figure.
@Bluntness100's suggestions are lovely. Any one of those would be perfect.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/04/2021 20:52

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Why 'out' though? Why is it blown OUT?????? Derails thread entirely.

HermioneWeasley · 15/04/2021 20:53

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie yes it’s a blow dry

MayIDestroyYou · 15/04/2021 20:53

@littlepattilou

That dress from Reiss ^ the sleeveless one, will not suit a 60 year old woman IMO.
Am I allowed to be fucking insulted by this ageist crap?
AdriannaP · 15/04/2021 20:53

Far too casual for a posh hotel in Surrey.

Staffy1 · 15/04/2021 20:55

Can we have a photo of it with the wrap? It's very nice, but a bit too casual on its own.

Something like this is modest but has a good shape and colour to it. Love that its dressed with wedges.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/04/2021 20:55

MayIDestroyYou - yes.

@HoldontoOneMoreDay

I'm Scottish and we tend to really dress up for weddings so it's not really formal enough for me. However, if you're happy then wear it! I like it and it's not inappropriate or too low necked.

But in the name of the wee man, don't add a wrap and fascinator. Nothing is more ageing or style-free than a wrap and fascinator. You could really rock the vintage vibe with a cute wee root cap hat, or go all out with a broad brimmed summer hat, or get your hair put up with a pretty band or vintagey ornament. A cropped jacket, wrapped cardi or even a shrug or nothing on top - not a wrap.

Amen.
SwimmingOnEggshells · 15/04/2021 20:56

Not at all appropriate for a wedding, you can do so much better. A wrap dress might be a good choice, they're v flattering. If budget is an issue try eBay

That being said, I like no 2 and 3 @Bluntness100 suggested. Really lovely. As was the second Reiss dress someone else posted. Priceyish though.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 15/04/2021 21:01

Apologies I don't know your size but this Jaeger dress on eBay is lovely: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jasper-Conran-Wrap-Dress-size-16-/284252282659?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286

Atalune · 15/04/2021 21:02

Pretty dress in colours that suit your complexion. Defo needs jazzing up a bit with....

Neat little navy jacket or cardigan with lovely broach/corsage. Bag and heels.

Hoppinggreen · 15/04/2021 21:03

I like it but I would probably wear it with white trainers to go shopping or for a not posh lunch
It’s not really wedding smart

CommanderBurnham · 15/04/2021 21:11

It's perfectly nice and not too revealing at all,

Your presence at the wedding is the most important thing.

I'd put something a bit blingy like a cuff or a smart jacket in the car just in case you get there and don't feel dressed up enough. If you think that it will bother you then go for it and have a good time.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 15/04/2021 21:14

But that dress would look ridiculous with a smart jacket or a cuff 🤦🏻‍♀️

Beautiful3 · 15/04/2021 21:16

I think you look lovely.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 15/04/2021 21:19

It's a bit frumpy for my liking op sorry.
You have a fab figure though!

RuthW · 15/04/2021 21:29

It will be lovely once you have a fascinator and buttonhole on.

Inneedofanewwardrobe · 15/04/2021 21:38

That dress is far too casual to wear with a fascinator.
keiratwiceknightly · 15/04/2021 21:50

Either of these would be nicer but have a similar style.

I think one of the issues with the original dress is the fabric; it looks quite thin polyester and thus a bit droopy. Plus button through is by its nature quite casual.
