Aspinal Regent Tote or Mulberry Bayswater Tote

Has anyone got either of these two bags? I've got a promotion and want to treat myself to a new bag, it'll be used for work. I'm torn between wanting a Mulberry, to the more practical zipped Aspinal - which I know are good quality as I have a smaller Aspinal bag already. Will I cherish the Mulberry as a 'forever bag' or not sleep at night with the price?

I’ve got the Mulberry. Go for the Mulberry!!

DarlingCoffee · 12/04/2021 17:16

And congrats on your promotion

ToooTicky · 12/04/2021 17:19

I’ve got the Mulberry too, but mine is dark green. I’m biased, but I’d go Mulberry too Grin

PresentingPercy · 12/04/2021 17:25

I’d go Loewe. Just more classy!

lonelySam · 12/04/2021 17:27

Go Aspinal. I love their bags and the quality is really good :) and congrats on your promotion!

Spied · 12/04/2021 17:30

Aspinal. Definitely the nicer of the two imo.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 12/04/2021 21:19

50/50 so far, this is probably a good sign that they're both great bags Grin

@DarlingCoffee thank you, it was hard work to get it hence the treat at the end!

@PresentingPercy thanks, will check them out as I've never heard of them.

Loewe out of budget I'm afraid, they look lovely, but the promotion doesn't give me that kind of budget Grin

Yes, way nicer but also a different price point. May as well go all the way and suggest Bottega Veneta!

Mulberry...

PeaceLoveAndCandy · 13/04/2021 06:25

Aspinal

Constancevariable · 13/04/2021 06:29

Aspinal. Just a bit more subtle IMO, but still beautiful attention to detail on the finish and quality.

SD1978 · 13/04/2021 06:37

Prefer Aspinal. Feel it's a bit more understated but better quality.

stevematekatemate · 13/04/2021 07:23

Mulberry. The shape of the Aspinal reminds me of the bags with the dog tag that comes with them. Sorry.

MargosKaftan · 13/04/2021 07:24

So what you are saying is you want the Mulberry, you can afford the Mulberry, but think the Aspinal is a more practical choice, and a bit cheaper.

This is a treat, get the bag you want. You don't always have to get the cheapest or more sensible option.

MargosKaftan · 13/04/2021 07:25

Oh and the Loewe is gorgeous, but the beat part of a grand more than the same size Mulberry. Its not comparable.

jay55 · 13/04/2021 07:29

I've got the Mulberry too and as it tucks under my armpit I don't worry about it not zipping on the tube etc.
Bought mine to give me confidence in a job interview, got the job, don't work there any more but still love the bag.

Congrats on the promotion.

JackieWeaverFever · 13/04/2021 07:40

I own both brands not these styles (my totes are LV neverfull, a YSL one and that print designed liberty one)

Personally for work I'd go with the Aspinal. It's more understated and i like their quality (i have a lottie which is 🤩😍🤩) and I'd buy something else with the difference.

Loewe - not at Bicester Village. Same price as Mulberry and much cooler! There are bargains on line too. The Jil Sander Sombrero bag is a star too. You can still virtual shop at BV I think. They have Mulberry too. I don’t think MN looks at or knows any other makes. Loewe are iconic Spanish. Their raffia summer bag with the patch sells out most years. Always in up market fashion mags.

PresentingPercy · 13/04/2021 15:50

That should read Loewe are at BV!

Elsabet · 13/04/2021 18:36

I say go for the Mulberry but the only issue, which leather is it? Have you seen it in real life as I don’t like some of the newer leathers they seem a bit plastic.

Loewe are way more expensive than Mulberry. Understandable as the leather and finish are so much nicer. I agree with you though that MN seems obsessed with Mulberry and it's just so dull and over rated.
ElspethFlashman · 13/04/2021 20:04

What about Ally Cappelino? We were all doing our nut over those bags in around December or thereabouts, do an Advanced Search.

PresentingPercy · 13/04/2021 20:06

Full price Mulberry is the same price as several Loewe bags at BV. I know. I bought a Loewe yesterday. It seems MN is stuck in a early 2000 time warp. DDs at my DDs school nabbed old Mulberry bag off their mums for book bags. At uni in Switzerland the girls had Celine book bags. Brands move on and there’s lots of quality out there. Even at modest enough prices. They are virtually never mentioned on MN.

MargosKaftan · 13/04/2021 22:50

Mulberry are easily accessible across the county though. Many other comparable brands assume you can travel to London, Manchester or Edinburgh or are happy to spend that much on a bag you've not touched.

Its harder in lockdown year when its not easy to travel.

It does seem odd that mulberry are one of the few brands nationally available at that price point. The others available across the country seem to be significantly cheaper or significantly more expensive.
