Help please - searching for the perfect black crossbody bag

Hello,

I have some birthday money to spend and I'd like to purchase a black crossbody bag with it. I normally don't spend a lot of money on bags so this is a one off treat - my budget is about £250-£300, although if there's something nice which is cheaper, then even better!

I had a look at some Kate Spade bags which i liked, but i'm not too sure about the brand as i've heard that their bags tend to get damaged quite quickly. I'd like to find something which is timeless and a classic.

Please could you recommend some brands, and any links to nice bags you've spotted.

I have a coach shay and adore it. You would probably get one with change too. I only paid £130 at Christmas.

What kind of shape and size are you looking for?

If you like a more casual look, the Russell and Bromley Lincoln at £215 is really lovely. The leather is so soft and its the perfect size.

How much does a smaller Mulberry go for these days? Their plain ones are lovely.

Have a look at Longchamp. I have a hard wearing cross body bag I use daily. I'll try and find the model.

I didn't think of russell and bromley - will have a look!

In terms of shape and size - im pretty flexible, nothing too huge but big enough to fit a phone, keys, wallet (the basics)

I had a look at the mulberry, they were around the 500 mark which is a bit high for me!

I'd have a look at the Rowan crossbody bags at Russell and Bromley, also I have a black leather crossbody from Fossil which is lovely and a bit cheaper.

Campomaggi? Italian leather, I stalk them on eBay all the time.

God yes, my favourite. I've never known anyone else recommend them on here apart from me!

As for Kate Spade, I have a small camera bag that I bought in an outlet in the US about 4/5 years ago. I don't use it tonnes, largely when I don't want to carry a bigger bag, like sightseeing, but it's been brilliant, and hasn't particularly shown any wear. For context, my daily bags tend to be Mulberry/Coach/LK Bennett.

I'd go for something very understated, like the Kate Sheridan one recommended.

Id go for Coach, Fossil or DKNY (some cheap ones normally at tkmaxx)

Try the APC half moon bag - great size and really classy. Look out for deals as you can usually find them around £200

I love furla, good quality and not insanely expensive (although I find the more practical the bad the more reasonably priced...which is nice!)

Mulberry do an official bag exchange so you can now buy brand-approved and conditioned pre-loved bags on Vestiare Collective. When I had a look there were bags around the £300 mark, maybe slightly over.

But there have been some good suggestions on this thread.

I love APC for classic bags.

John Lewis have quite a lot in clearance.

I need a big cross body bag. I keep searching. Nothing! And a little one. Looking with interest.

Toast had some nice ones last I looked (if Toast is your thing).
