Shirts for casual wear to wear with jeans?

BurbageBrook · 20/03/2021 21:40

Looking for some wisdom on shirt style as in the past I've never worn causal shirts. But I'm turning 30 this year and I feel like my spring style maybe needs to mature a little? I keep seeing women styling jeans and flats with a simple shirt for casualwear and I love the look.

So if you're a shirt-wearer which shop would you recommend for this kind of thing? The style I can dress down with jeans easily? When shopping online I'm not really sure where's best and which ones look good and not too office-y for 'real life'.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

I really like the M&S 100% linen shirts - I have some from 5 years ago I’ve worn to death and still look great, so excellent value per wear too!

RampantIvy · 21/03/2021 15:22

Do they crease very quickly when you are wearing them @Slothkin?

Pigtailsandall · 21/03/2021 15:40

@RampantIvy just because a colour is neutral doesn't mean it suits everyone. Camel is a neutral but looks awful on me, as do most greys. But they are still neutral.

Trendy - well, just that if it's trendy it means there's lots of it around. I keep seeing lots of khaki coloured things. Trendy and stylish are not at all the same but also not mutually exclusive.

I saw a few nice shirts at COS but their colours atm really don't suit me

RampantIvy · 21/03/2021 16:16

Ah, thank you for clarifying that Pigtailsandall.

I'm not sure I would suit any neutral colours. I struggle to find clothes that suit me in the autumn because the shops are full of autumn colours.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie @HeyGirlHeyBoy Hush is soo hot and miss and nearly always pricey unless in the sale. I've had some boyfriend jeans from them that have been worn 2-3 times a week and only just died 3/4 yes on (and I cycle and they went at the crothch). Would never buy a jumper from or an overpriced star/motif t-shirt...
I really like the shirt but it's £65 Hmm

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/03/2021 19:59

I've been drooling over these Hush trousers but the reviews are bad and they're stupidly expensive.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 21/03/2021 20:00

65 not bad if you love it and it lasts!! Is it black or navy in the check? The toast one I'm looking at is 140 Shock Gorgeous colours tho.

musicmum75 · 21/03/2021 20:21

Forgot to say I also buy loads of shirts from Mint Velvet but I always get them in the sale as I don't think they are worth full price.

hettie · 21/03/2021 20:24

@HeyGirlHeyBoy it's navy (more my colour than black...you're not helping). @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie The chinos are great, very like some gap ones I bought a while back...they were a girlfriend cut..They might still do them?

Thanks, Hettie. I'll look at Gap.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 21/03/2021 20:36

www.toa.st/eu/product/womens+shirts/c7qch/ruffle+neck+cotton+shirt.htm?clr=C7QCH_Raspberry_sw Here's the toast one.. Not mad on the collar but love the colours. Awful pity they only have the one pic, for that price!!

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 21/03/2021 21:12

That is nice alright.

I bought a few blouses from Trouva, a website for a collection of smaller boutiques - some well known some not. I was really happy to come across things slightly out of the ordinary. Not all of the shops on the site have equally good customer service but the one time I needed it Trouva managed things well and speedily - I bought 10 tops and returned 5, one of those 5 shops didn't acknowledge my return, but I had my receipt so Trouva just refunded straight away.

Slothkin · 22/03/2021 02:18

@RampantIvy they’re pre-creased for me! I wear them a size up all crumply.

RockaLock · 22/03/2021 07:15

@Jen435 I've been eyeing up a WNU shirt for a while now - do they come up very big? I know they are meant to be oversized, but the sizing looks very generous indeed!

Jen435 · 22/03/2021 11:20

@RockaLock - depends which one you're after

I'm a 10/12 with big boobs and have a L and M in the brushed cotton, but prefer the large, and then in the weave/ linen have an M. The linen/ weave come up quite big (which is how I like them - i.e. great for throwing over a swimsuit/ cover your bum) but if you want something more fitted go down a size.

They're really lovely though and would 100% recommend

RockaLock · 22/03/2021 11:23

Thank you, @Jen435 , that's really helpful Smile
