Sketchers

Are sketchers considered naff or frumpy? I'm early 40's..

OP posts:
RampantIvy · 21/03/2021 10:54

I don't want to look frumpy, but nor do I want to look "trendy". I just want to look stylish or great. IMO looking trendy at 62 is a bit try too hard.

DH is anything but trendy Grin

Bagelsandbrie · 21/03/2021 10:56

@Popcornbetty

Well apparently a pp's 34 yr old ultra trendy dh has better street cred than Jamie Redknapp and demi Lovato Grin
Ha! Grin he would reckon he does ...! Grin And of course they’re being paid to advertise them. They probably don’t even like them.

I do laugh at my dh a lot. He’s much more into brands etc than I am. I don’t really care. But it’s his “thing” he spends a lot of money on clothes. Dds friends - all 18-20 all think he looks really good and often comment on stuff he wears. We tease him and tell him he should set up an “only fans” page.

RampantIvy · 21/03/2021 10:57

They don't look any different to other trainers.

I can't see the difference either @Boogiewoody. I'm not influenced by what are perceived as stylish brands. Neither are my friends or my family.

LadyEloise · 21/03/2021 11:01

Skechers ArchFit give arch support.
The other Skechers are too flat for me.
I don't think they are frumpy.
Better to o be frumpy than grumpy cos your feet are aching. Smile

saffire · 21/03/2021 11:06

There are so many different styles. Yes some are old lady-ish, but there are so many that aren't!

TinCanCollector · 21/03/2021 11:27

my 34 year old very trendy dh wouldn’t be seen dead in them so that says it all for me

Women - a man has spoken... not just any man, no, a very trendy man who has 18-20 year olds fawning over him and who should be on Only Fans.

That’s it Sketchers, you’re over, give up already.

No need to be so aggressive. It’s a lighthearted thread about trainers. I said my dd aged 18 wouldn’t wear them either but I’m allowed to say that because she’s a woman?

Grin I bet he's one of those sadsacks who everyone looks at and pities with his loafers and no socks.
StepOutOfLine · 21/03/2021 12:11

There's not much light-hearted about women (presumably) calling other women's choices, frumpy, hideous, dowdy etc whilst hurling in a hefty dose of nasty ageism to boot.

Popsy321 · 21/03/2021 12:13

@SpeckledyHen

Love them . Nothing on this planet to compare in terms of comfort .
There is......Clarks cloudsteppers!
Popcornbetty · 21/03/2021 12:13

@Bagelsandbrie the comment by @TinCanCollector was lighthearted and made me chuckle. As for your 18 yr old not wearing them that's fine she is only 18 and not 34 and so trendy should be on only fans...😂

Popcornbetty · 21/03/2021 12:17

@StepOutOfLine 'I bet he's one of those sadsacks who everyone looks at and pities with his loafers and no socks.' Squeezed into a pair of skinny jeans thinking he is 21 again Grin sorry...i couldn't help it.

It's not because she's a woman it's acceptable, it's because she's 18!

It's Style and Beauty and OP asked whether a certain choice is styling and beautiful. If people don't think it is, they have a right to answer that question. I will still wear my Sketchers :)

Oh I see Grin I am 41 so to me 34 is young. I’m sorry if I read things the wrong way. I just feel lately Mumsnet is very quick to say men can’t have an opinion on anything and actually I was just sharing part of my own family’s dynamics that makes us all laugh. The dds friends who comment on his clothes and like his stuff are male - its not like he’s enjoying female attention from younger women. It’s all just a bit of fun. Sorry if I’ve offended anyone.

TBH I tend to be a little suspicious of men who are overly invested in their appearance, especially those who have 18 year olds fawning over them. As long as a man is clean and tidy, that will do for me.

user1493494961 · 21/03/2021 12:26

Wear what's comfy, your feet will thank you when you're older.

RampantIvy · 21/03/2021 12:29

I once read somewhere that you shouldn't scrimp on spending on your feet or your bed because if you aren't in one you are in the other.

Why are so many pretty shoes so uncomfortable? Surely there is a market for something comfortable that is also elegant and stylish?

LouLouLoupee · 21/03/2021 12:33

I wore Skechers Go Walks throughout my twenties because I worked long shifts on the feet and they were comfy, most of my colleagues wore them as well. Sure the uniform isn’t glam but frumpy is a bit harsh 😅

I’ve since moved onto Toms.

Clearly I’m doing life wrong 🤷🏼‍♀️

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 21/03/2021 12:34

@fellrunner85

My mum loves hers and she's in her 70s. There are trainers that are just as comfortable yet don't look as frumpy.
That's not necessarily true.

I wear sketchers and I do NOT care what people on here think.

Since I found sketchers I am no longer in constant pain, so be as distainful, ageist & nasty as you all like 🤷🏻‍♀️

Magpiecomplex · 21/03/2021 12:36

My mid-70s MIL has a pair of Skechers. Dark blue boys' trainers, hand-me-downs from my son!

Bananaman123 · 21/03/2021 12:38

so much variety in them, ive been wearing since 20s and now 40

I remember a dad from my teenage friendship group just like this. A grown man parading round in front of a bunch of teenagers like a peacock, thinking he was the dogs bollocks, fishing for compliments.

We were all incredibly polite while secretly wishing he’d fuck off and leave us alone.Grin

Anyway OP, buy some and try them and don’t care what anyone on here or their 34 year old OnlyFans husband thinks.

Popcornbetty · 21/03/2021 12:54

@KitchenFairy haha 😂 it is cringeworthy and they are convinced they are 'down with the kids' wearing the same fashions/trends...'alright lads/girls...' Arrggghhh lol just no! I think as a teenager you'd rather he had just gone out and got some sketches and put the sockless loafer look away!
