Sketchers

Are sketchers considered naff or frumpy? I'm early 40's..

OP posts:

I put them in the same mental category as White Stuff/ Fat Face/ Joules etc. It's the "look" my mum and her friends (all late 60s/early 70s) go for

I go for those brands at 38 - comfy and I think flattering. Considering people seem genuinely surprised at my age and think I’m younger I don’t really understand your sneery comment. What the fuck am I supposed to be wearing? I thought my black fat face jeans were fine and I bloody love my fatface dungarees.

JaceLancs · 20/03/2021 23:43

I was struggling to find comfortable holiday footwear a few years ago and then discovered Skechers - didn’t care what they looked like - I’m on holiday so needed something I could walk for miles in
Loved them for 2-3 years and then I lost weight and bizarrely the Skechers became uncomfortable
I do have narrow feet though and it’s a challenge to find footwear I don’t slip out of
I’m 56 and whilst I care about what I look like it’s also about comfort

Popcornbetty · 21/03/2021 07:05

‘I think those of you saying that Sketchers are hideous probably haven’t looked at their website lately. They make footwear in such a wide variety of designs these days. What they excel in is making footwear that is comfortable enough to walk around theme parks all day, or walk for miles on a city break.‘

Exactly this ^ I also think the posters saying this are out if touch with fashion as the descriptions are inaccurate. The brand have loads of styles and people of all ages wear them because there is a style for everybody. I’d love to see what these posters wear and usually people who preach things being uncool really aren’t cool themselves!

Frumpy

Frumpy

Fun. My daughter would wear these.

Fun and these

Hideous

Awful

Having had a look at their trainers, I can’t see that they differ significantly in looks to more fashionable brands. Also, they now do a range called Arch Fit, which have podiatrist-certified arch support, so I'm wondering why they are considered so bad for our feet.

I wish I hadn’t looked at their site now as I want to buy some more Grin

chipsandpeas · 21/03/2021 08:38

i love mine, have various pairs mainly in black - some slip on and some trainers
they are comfy as fuck and they have such a massive range you cant say its all frumpy, some are and some are fine - the sandal range is comfy as well

Bagelsandbrie · 21/03/2021 08:52

My 18 year old dd and my 34 year old very trendy dh wouldn’t be seen dead in them so that says it all for me. I would wear them for sight seeing or walking loads as they’re super comfy but if I want to look fashionable I’d go for New Balance / Adidas / Nike brands. Depends if someone cares about fashion or not! Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.

Twobrews · 21/03/2021 09:08

Someone recommended them to me for plantar fasciitis.
I trawled through the whole site the vast majority of which is basically the same shoe, but I found one pair that wasn't too awful and a vaguely similar style to what I'd normally wear.
They were more expensive than what I would normally wear, and unfortunately they weren't comfortable, the memory foam feels good initially but they weren't good to walk in, very little support.

midnightstar66 · 21/03/2021 09:17

If you’re worried about the way they look or the message they convey, don’t risk putting your feet in a pair. They completely destroy your ability to tolerate uncomfortable shoes (which is basically anything else that isn’t sketchers)
Consider yourself warned!

Also true of ugg boots!! Sketchers do such a range of styles there's bound to be something that suits every taste. I did it think people discounted things based on brand name image after their teens.

sassafras123 · 21/03/2021 09:22

They fuck up your feet. Avoid.

RampantIvy · 21/03/2021 09:31

@sassafras123

Even the Arch Fit, which have podiatrist-certified arch support? Why do they mess your feet? Please can you be more specific? Why is it that plantar fascitiitis sufferers find that they help?
Hoppinggreen · 21/03/2021 09:35

The main issue I have with Sketchers is that once you wear them it makes every other shoe feel uncomfortable
There is a large Sketchers shop in our nearest city and the range is huge, including boots, ballet flats and a lot more

chipsandpeas · 21/03/2021 09:38

how?

if anything they have helped my feet

Justcashnosweets · 21/03/2021 09:43

I'm mid 40s and I love Skechers! They are so comfy. Most of the people I know wear them aswell.

RampantIvy · 21/03/2021 09:49

This is so true Grin

Popcornbetty · 21/03/2021 09:49

'my 34 year old very trendy dh wouldn't be seen dead in them

Hmm
Roselilly36 · 21/03/2021 09:51

Demi Lavato, Jamie Rednapp, they aren’t frumps, both faces of Skechers.

Popcornbetty · 21/03/2021 09:54

Well apparently a pp's 34 yr old ultra trendy dh has better street cred than Jamie Redknapp and demi Lovato Grin

OhioOhioOhio · 21/03/2021 09:54

I love them.

BigButtons · 21/03/2021 09:59

I run in gorun ride 7’s . They are supremely comfortable and very lightweight. Skechers boots are great too.

Shangrilalala · 21/03/2021 10:08

I wear them, I don’t love them but having signed up to a pair a couple of years ago, my feet need them.

So agree that my feet tolerate little else now. I go to Sketchers, FitFlop and at a push Fly London. I am starting to panic about what my much anticipated post lockdown life will mean for my feet and am searching for more formal alternatives which my now cosseted feet will cope with.

nancy75 · 21/03/2021 10:41

@Roselilly36

I’m sure that’s because they love them & has nothing to do with getting paid loads of money
Popcornbetty · 21/03/2021 10:44

It doesnt matter they still have to agree to represent the brand and it wouldn't make sense to represent a brand that may harm their image. The brand is for all ages and has a diverse range of styles. find

Roselilly36 · 21/03/2021 10:45

@Popcornbetty 😂 yes PP’s DH is of course, far trendier than them and got more £££ too I expect. Perhaps he could be the next face of Skechers?

Popcornbetty · 21/03/2021 10:50

@Roselilly36 🤣😂 i bet he would be the perfect candidate and all the 'cool kids' would come flocking once he's the face lol

Boogiewoody · 21/03/2021 10:51

Why the hate? They don't look any different to other trainers. I don't have any myself but I would wear them (but I wear clothes from Fat Face, Joules and White Stuff so what do I know about fashion I'm obviously an old frump Wink)
