What do you do to try staying looking young?

I'm 36 and always was blessed with looking young for my age....well until recently 😂 Over the last 6mths I am really beginning to look old!!

I've never really been one to use lotions and potions lol but maybe I need to start 🤣

It just got me thinking, what do other women do or use to help stay looking youthful?

SPF daily, exercise, not too much alcohol, not too much sugar, try to eat healthy. Try to have a good social life which makes me feel good.

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 19/03/2021 19:58

Hardly any alcohol
No caffeine or decaf drinks.
I eat at least 5 of my 5 a day.
Botox twice a year
Fillers once a year
Do my roots every few weeks.
So far so good.

Another vegetarian here. Diet is massive, it does affect how you look. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I prioritise my sleep. I keep active as much as I can. Beauty cosmetics help, but lick the diet, the intake of water & just in general watch what you put in your body as a first step.

Health health health all the way and you’ll look great whatever age you are

NoAnchovies · 19/03/2021 21:02

I eat celery 10 x a day. As a celerite, I keep to a size zero, yet am completely puffed up with self-regard. I never smoke or drink or sit in the sun unless SPF5000. I make love like I need the money or as a mild anaerobic workout. I try not to have fun unless its authorised by the Wellness Police. Sometimes I inject poison into my face, if I'm bored of a Friday night. Hopefully this means I will stay young forever and some random bloke I don't fancy will find me attractive, but I am a feminist of deeply held beliefs and (continued, p.94).

Wow @NoAnchovies

whataboutbob · 19/03/2021 21:22

@NoAnchovies you could write for Private Eye! Or maybe you are the reader in gender studies on From the Message Boards.Best laugh I’ve had today.

frugalkitty · 19/03/2021 21:29

"make love like I need the money" that's brilliant! Grin

RosesAndHellebores · 19/03/2021 21:32

I do the exact opposite to @NoAnchovies: drink, no longer smoke, work 50hpw, run a house- at present housing dh and dc who aren't at uni, don't exercise, live butter, cream and sugar. High end of ok BMI edging into overweight (pads out the wrinkles Grin.

I don't believe one can do a single thing because it's all down to genes, bone structure and posture. Enjoying life, being happy, having an active mind and tapping into the interests of youth.

BrookePalomoV · 19/03/2021 21:34

Stay the right weight. No yo yo dieting. Do not slim to be underweight either.

Wear spf even in winter. Cover neck when in sun and use rubber gloves for washing up.

Sleep and sleep and sleep. No cream can substitute a lack of sleep.

If you have babies - get help to sleep, eat well and exercise.

QueenPaw · 20/03/2021 01:18

Genes (oilier skin tends to age better)
SPF (I take vitamin D though as I'm so pale/sun avoiding I'm deficient...)
Prescription from skin and me
Skincare, every day, twice a day
Had Botox previously but haven't needed it since the skin and me prescription

Someone jokingly asked if I had a portrait in the attic so I'm not doing too bad Grin

violetbunny · 20/03/2021 08:32

SPF
Retinol
Botox
Didn't have kids ShockWink

sofato5miles · 20/03/2021 08:43

Genes mostly, with a little ahem help. I live in a hot country, SPF when i remember or on beach, smoke, drink and have mild insomnia. I had filler in my smokers lines and a sunspot and thread vein lazered on my face. My teath are straight and white though which helps. Was told this week that i look a decade younger than i am. Shame about the very average body though

sofato5miles · 20/03/2021 08:45

Those who have had cheek bone fillers, to lift their face, does it look a bit odd. The only person i lnow who has had it, looked changed and her eyes looked smaller. Scared to risk that but reckon something could defo be done to improve my smile lines

sofato5miles · 20/03/2021 08:46

@NoAnchovies that was bloody brilliant 🤣

sluj · 20/03/2021 09:01

A lot of people seem to be spending a small fortune on potions and are convinced that this is why they still look youthful. It also seems that many of these people are still in their 40s. Unfortunately something just happens in your 50s and you DO start to look older, however much time and money you spent on skincare.
There is nothing you can do about that unless you get plastic surgery but it's definitely not the end of the world.

You can make an effort not to look frumpy, maintain your weight and get a snappy haircut but you will still look older, just stylishly older. There's nothing wrong with that.

NeedATan · 20/03/2021 09:21

Pros and cons of Tret?

ElderMillennial · 20/03/2021 09:37

I think what you eat and drink has an impact. I don't drink much alcohol but I do eat a lot of sugary foods. Drinking water should help.

In terms of what you put on to your skin, I think using a moisturiser and eye cream is important, as your skin needs to be moisturised.

SPF is one of the most important things. Sun damages ages you.

Juliesipadwillcallyouback · 20/03/2021 09:58

I have had my finger hovering over the 'buy' button on Farmacia Andorra for Retirides for months now! Grin

I don't know, there is something stopping me taking the plunge.

I'm not going to do Skin and Me/Dermatica subscriptions, largely because tret takes literally years to make any difference, and I just feel like paying monthly for something that will take years to do anything seems a bit pointless, I don't know?

Tightwad2020 · 20/03/2021 10:21

Good posture, balance, flexibility and muscle tone are all age-defying. So lots of exercise - in my case, walking, cycling, ballet workouts and a bit of pilates and yoga, with some weights thrown in. Don't forget the little things - plenty of exercises to keep your feet, ankles and calves strong and improve balance.

Oestrogen helps with bone density and joint flexibility, so see your GP about HRT if you are menopausal.

See also oestrogen and sleep - insomnia is crap at any age, disastrous for the looks and well-being of the mature woman!

Don't smoke or drink. Giving up the latter enabled me to drop more than a stone while eating pretty much what I wanted. Means I can wear all my wardrobe and am slim enough to wear flat shoes, (I used to rely on the leg lengthening qualities of heels to boost my confidence in my bulkier days). Being able to stride around in excellent stylish flats rather than teeter is mood- and youth-boosting.

QueenPaw · 20/03/2021 11:23

@Juliesipadwillcallyouback skin and me made a big difference for me in I would say 7 months

Is this an attempt at humour Confused

All of the above (yeah right!).

I look my age, probably older actually, but a bit of mascara and lipstick take years off me.

In normal times I have a sharp haircut which I think helps too. At the moment it's a shoulder length bob which doesn't suit me at all and it looks very dated on me.
