Thank goodness for Wired and her words of wisdom!
As for me, I'm 60 now, and I don't think I really started looking my age at all until the last few years, so have only recently given the matter any real thought! I would be wary of doing anything surgery or botox wise as, even if I could afford it (and I can't), there is that danger of looking like a mashed up version of oneself, as Wired points out. Not a good look and surprisingly common in celebrities. Poor Simon Cowell looks like his face has been replaced by a strange pumpkin.
I saw this beautiful woman today walking along the street. She was definitely in her 70s or 80s and looked it. Her hair was 100% grey in a lovely loose shoulder length cut, though there was plenty of it. She had absolutely no make up on but she had this clear face with high cheekbones. But she had obviously taken care with her clothes, some kind of stylish lilac and mauve mixes. Maybe she was always beautiful or maybe she "grew" into it.
By contrast, last week I was in a shop and there was a woman my age I guess (60ish). She was slim, longish dark hair, in jeans, and maybe I detected some "work", but the overall effect was incongruent and somewhat dull. I think "trying" too hard to look young can make you look "wrapped too tight" sometimes. Its even said that cosmetic / plastic surgery can actually make you look older, by virtue of the fact that only older people have it in the first place! Perhaps if its really good it can knock a few years of you, but all that effort for that doesnt' make sense, to me anyway.
Anyway, back to the subject. I am one of those people who has good skin, genetic probably, and has never had to bother with anything. I used to wear SPF and foundation though. But now I don't really care about the sun. If I get all wrinkly and freckly (I have freckles) at the beach I don't care any more now I'm 60. Yay!
My hair has got finer recently and its really hard for me to lose weight now. I'm started yet another diet today to try and get down from M&S size 16 to size 14 (the weight is nearly all round my middle too). I think I'd look better (possibly younger) if I was slimmer, but its hard as I enjoy my food too.
I did look worse in my 30s I think in some ways - nearly all lifestyle reasons - too much smoking, drinking and fairly poor diet. Those things I've stopped, reduced or improved and I think that made a difference.
