What do you do to try staying looking young?

I'm 36 and always was blessed with looking young for my age....well until recently 😂 Over the last 6mths I am really beginning to look old!!

I've never really been one to use lotions and potions lol but maybe I need to start 🤣

It just got me thinking, what do other women do or use to help stay looking youthful?

I'm 35 and I use:

Morning -
Hyaluronic acid (the ordinary)
Eye cream (No. 7)
Day cream with SPF (No. 7)

Evening -
Caffeine solution for eyes (the ordinary)
Firming booster serum (Olay)
Night cream (No. 7)

Three times a week I use an intense hydration mask (No. 7) and once a week (not the same day) squalene (the ordinary)

Cover up my greys

Stay slim and fit. Lots of exercise. Nothing more aging than poor posture or a lack of energy

Well cut clothes in good quality fabrics. Lycra may work on lithe 20 yo but it can look dire on a 50 yo.

Well fitting underwear

Listen to other people's opinions and don't be afraid to try a new product or style. Don't get stuck in a rut.

Softer toned makeup. Move from blacks to softer browns for lashes and brows.

Work hard to keep complexion moisturised. Get plenty of sleep and stay hydrated.

Maintain good dental hygiene.

Janaih · 15/03/2021 16:03

Drink plenty water and cut right down on alcohol.
Highlights in hair to blend in greys.
Eyebrows microbladed.
Subtle Lip fillers.

AmongUs · 15/03/2021 16:07

Forgot to add -
Teeth whitening strips and whitening toothpaste
I also cover greys

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 15/03/2021 16:17

My skin care routine is pretty basic but I always moisturise and I'm blessed with reasonably oily, Mediterranean skin so I'm wrinkle free so far. I make sure my eyebrows and nails are neat and wear light make up everyday.

I stay very slim, keep my hair long and free of grey and have always ignored the 'dressing for your age' crap. I wear minis with opaque tights, hoodies, little vintage dresses etc

I know I'm looking older, I'm 50 ffs but I definitely look 'young' If that makes sense?!
I feel good and have absolutely no plans to change my attitude to getting older ( my dh is still in his 30s, so this may help too!!!)

FourTurnings · 15/03/2021 19:58

I don’t try and look young, I try and look good - and to be honest I think that works pretty well 😃

jelly79 · 15/03/2021 22:22

Botox
Really good skincare (Alumier)
Prescription strength retinol (although I have to limit this)
Advanced Nutrition skin supplements
Just had a tiny bit of cheek fillers
Exercise and healthy diet
Under eye patches

(Don't do all the above at once)

jelly79 · 15/03/2021 22:23

Oh and SPF everyday!

WinstonsWeirdVole · 15/03/2021 22:51

SPF and try not to stress! Beyond that it’s mostly genetic anyway

Wiredforsound · 15/03/2021 22:54

Why do you want to look younger than you are? No amount of hyaluronic acid, Botox, fillers, dieting, hair dye, exercise, or facelifts etc. going to make me look 30 again, and I don’t want them to. At best all these treatments do age wise is take 5 years off you. At worst they make you look like a mashed up version of yourself. I’m 51, I exercise every day, don’t drink too much, eat healthily 80% of the time. I look like a happy, healthy, 51 year old, who lives at the beach and doesn’t think it is a crime to look my age. I haven’t let myself go; I’ve let myself be.

bengalcat · 15/03/2021 22:55

Running , ballet and Botox

LunaNorth · 15/03/2021 22:58

No alcohol.
Collagen supplements.
Keep slim.
Cover greys.
Lighter makeup.
Don’t have hair too ‘done’.
Bit of Botox if you feel the need.

AlohaMolly · 15/03/2021 23:01

I’m 33 and have always had decent skin but don’t look after it if you see what I mean. I moisturise in the morning after my shower but should I be doing it at night too? When people say SPF, what does that actually mean? Is it another cream that I buy separately from the moisturiser?

highlightsonlyplease · 15/03/2021 23:16

I can't be doing with giving up alcohol completely.
I would rather look my age than younger without the social bonding that booze enhances!

That said I use high SPF everyday, face oil every night and wear sunglasses a lot too.

Ohee · 16/03/2021 04:40

Face exercises and body exercises, Nuface, tretinoin, spf every day

SpeckledyHen · 16/03/2021 06:42

I mix with a lot of old people.

Eesha · 16/03/2021 06:52

I get loads of sleep and i dont drink or smoke. I go for long walks each day post the school run so that ticks off the exercise bit. I look younger when my hair is coloured and cut too!

Sprining · 16/03/2021 06:58

@SpeckledyHen

I mix with a lot of old people.
😂😂
Signoramarella · 16/03/2021 06:58

Exercise everyday. Good skincare. Serum and face masks twice a week. Mediterranean diet. Low alcohol. Stay happy. Lots of sex. Cover Grey's and regular haircuts. Try to limit stress, yoga pilates. I'm 50 this year but feel 30. Weekly Zumba class. Weights.

lifehack · 16/03/2021 09:22

I've worn foundation everyday for 25 years, it naturally blocks sunlight as well as spf varieties, that has helped, I don't smoke and I sleep a lot.
People are often surprised I have children like I don't look old enough but I'm 40.
I look younger when slimmer too but that's a battle atm.

JaneJeffer · 16/03/2021 10:56

I haven’t let myself go; I’ve let myself be.
I love this @Wiredforsound but your username makes me think of the Peter Pan of pop Grin

PoeticBreeze · 16/03/2021 16:19

Thank goodness for Wired and her words of wisdom!

As for me, I'm 60 now, and I don't think I really started looking my age at all until the last few years, so have only recently given the matter any real thought! I would be wary of doing anything surgery or botox wise as, even if I could afford it (and I can't), there is that danger of looking like a mashed up version of oneself, as Wired points out. Not a good look and surprisingly common in celebrities. Poor Simon Cowell looks like his face has been replaced by a strange pumpkin.

I saw this beautiful woman today walking along the street. She was definitely in her 70s or 80s and looked it. Her hair was 100% grey in a lovely loose shoulder length cut, though there was plenty of it. She had absolutely no make up on but she had this clear face with high cheekbones. But she had obviously taken care with her clothes, some kind of stylish lilac and mauve mixes. Maybe she was always beautiful or maybe she "grew" into it.

By contrast, last week I was in a shop and there was a woman my age I guess (60ish). She was slim, longish dark hair, in jeans, and maybe I detected some "work", but the overall effect was incongruent and somewhat dull. I think "trying" too hard to look young can make you look "wrapped too tight" sometimes. Its even said that cosmetic / plastic surgery can actually make you look older, by virtue of the fact that only older people have it in the first place! Perhaps if its really good it can knock a few years of you, but all that effort for that doesnt' make sense, to me anyway.

Anyway, back to the subject. I am one of those people who has good skin, genetic probably, and has never had to bother with anything. I used to wear SPF and foundation though. But now I don't really care about the sun. If I get all wrinkly and freckly (I have freckles) at the beach I don't care any more now I'm 60. Yay!

My hair has got finer recently and its really hard for me to lose weight now. I'm started yet another diet today to try and get down from M&S size 16 to size 14 (the weight is nearly all round my middle too). I think I'd look better (possibly younger) if I was slimmer, but its hard as I enjoy my food too.

I did look worse in my 30s I think in some ways - nearly all lifestyle reasons - too much smoking, drinking and fairly poor diet. Those things I've stopped, reduced or improved and I think that made a difference.

Tombola78 · 17/03/2021 08:55

Lamentations, what ab exercises do you do? Really interested to follow ☺️

Carycy · 17/03/2021 09:30

For me it’s spf - have done since I was about 18. And just looking after my skin with a regular skin care routine. I have largely avoided actives like retinoids as well as strong exfoliants as I have sensitive skin. Just cleanse and use lots of hydrating serums and moisturisers ( always put serums and moistuiriser on damp skin straight out of the shower is my big tip - don’t let your face dry first).
Maybe in my 40s I will give retinoids a go but for now I have good skin so don’t want to ruin it as have heard some horror stories.
I have just started with the most minimal Botox on my forehead you can get and love the effect. I think while I am in my late thirties it has a refreshing effect on my face but can see that when you get older it might look incongruous with a more saggy face so I will prob not do it forever.
