What do you wear after a shower, if not getting dressed straight away ?

Sometimes at the weekend or after a bath I like to potter without having to get dressed. I hate dressing gowns as they just continuously flap open. For the past few years I’ve had these from John Lewis. Love them but they don’t sell them anymore and I can’t find anything similar that doesn’t look like it’s designed for a much older person.

Does anyone have anything similar ? Or what do you put on after a shower/bath to potter ?

One of DH old work shirts. He is a big chap and I am quite small and they come down to mid thigh. If it is chilly I might add a pair of tights.

Bricksandtile · 11/03/2021 07:09

What a drama, like op said if you don’t get it, you don’t get it - no need to be giving her routine suggestions, she isn’t a child 🤣
Op, I totally get you. I will give my example of this - in the morning I get up for work before the kids, have a shower. Get out of shower, I then give my hair a light blow dry and leave it to dry, whilst then getting kids up, breakfasts made, school lunches packed, hustling kids to get dressed, brush teeth, do my make up, finish my hair - all before getting dressed 😱 I don’t want to be flapping around in a dressing gown whilst performing any of the above, so I have a couple of pairs of comfy joggers and vest tops from the supermarket (helps deodorant dry etc as well with a vest top). hopefully people are ok with this 🤣

I have a few things, one is a cotton shirt dress. Sounds like an item you'd wear to actually get dressed, but it's actually very roomy and like pjs, I'd never wear it out as intended.

So much controversy over my after shower routine 🤣

Simple facts are - unless I’m heading straight out for School run/work/other plans I don’t like to get dressed until I am ‘done’. Which to me means general tidy around (not full on sweaty house clean), sort kids, hair/make up etc.

It’s no different to putting on a dressing gown, I just don’t like dressing gowns !!

I loved this JL dress/alternate to DG as the towelling element was nice being a bit damp after shower. Easy to put on. Hang on back of the door. Didn’t make me look 40 years older than I am.

Thanks for all the suggestions ! I didn’t think of Oodie type thing as imagine they’re quite hot but would be a nice idea to try for the winter. Some of the dresses on here look great so I’ll give one a go for the warmer months.

I’m only 5ft and size 8 (when I’m not pregnant) so I could probably get away with a kids hooded beach towel!

Decathlon surf poncho?

I think this one (larger kids size) would be right for you. We have the adult ones and they're quite large - I'm 5'7 and size 14 and they're a bit big for me.

Crappyfridays7 · 11/03/2021 15:19

I’m sure white stuff had some similar. I find pottering in my dressing gown I get too warm. Just pop a clean nightie or pjs on if i’ve had a shower. Stay in ones I’ve had on before then shower everyone has their own ‘routine’.

Hope you find something suitable

Cookies2523 · 11/03/2021 15:26

Fashion world have similar zip ups

Coffeepot72 · 11/03/2021 19:19

I’m glad it’s not just me who can’t perform basic household tasks in a dressing gown. I can manage to feed the cat and make coffee, and that’s about the limit.

northernstars · 11/03/2021 19:25

I'd say the holiday clothes will be out soon. They're usually good for light dresses. I have a few from Primark that I use after a shower to not getting sweaty again - thank you menopause.

ILoveShula · 11/03/2021 19:26

Not RTFT.

Try googling towelling kaftan.

ILoveShula · 11/03/2021 19:28

It brought up a White Company one a bit like the one in the OP.

ILoveShula · 11/03/2021 19:29

Oh sorry it's sold out.

justaweeone · 11/03/2021 19:33

Amazon?

bananamonkey · 11/03/2021 19:37

Maybe try looking for a “housecoat”. I am super tempted by the vintage ones on eBay.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 11/03/2021 19:48

I was hoping someone else would have asked this, but is underwear worn under these things? I'd generally put on joggers or similar if I wasn't heading out straight away but would put on my underwear for the day. These dresses look a bit draughty without undies.

Amdone123 · 11/03/2021 20:06

I know what you mean. I shower or bathe, then can have 2 or 3 hours before having to move. I hate dressing gowns, make me feel scruffy. I had something similar to your pic op. It was from primark, summer range. I wear Pjs, but shorts and cami type top. Then get dressed when I have to.
Thanks to pp who sent bonprix link / pocket nighties. I love them, going to order.

notacooldad · 12/03/2021 08:16

I don't think there's any specific rules around this.

wizzbangfizz · 12/03/2021 10:52

Ooooo @Popsy321 I like that!

WalkingMeAway · 12/03/2021 14:33

Thank you for all the amazing suggestions !

I found something VERY similar from Bon Prix so have ordered that to try

www.bonprix.co.uk/products/zip-up-dressing-gown/_/A-919121_10?PFM_rsn=browse&PFM_ref=false&PFM_psp=own&PFM_lpn=11

Also ordered the Next Beach dress as that looks
ideal for the warmer weather.

@icanboogieboogiewoogie no I don’t. Free as a bird !

I LOVE the ‘nap’ dresses on page 1. But they’re too expensive to empty the dishwasher or make the kids breakfast in 🤣

I'm the same OP- I have a large sarong that I just tie- its cotton but it's not suitable for going out to the bin etc- I have a beach cover up that fits the bill but its slightly see through- its navy so not too much of an issue- I just have to have my underwear on underneath it! I can't wear a bulky dressing gown, if I put Pjs on i feel all damp and get too hot- I like to waft about until I am fully dry- and I get too warm for clothes or dressing gowns- a cotton kaftan would be the thing but thats just a step I am not willing to take!

lindyloo57 · 16/03/2021 17:52

I have that in the green colour, brought in last summer sale, I love it, I wear it as a dress gown in summer, or over swimwear or as a summer dress when going down to the beach.
